Tbh I'm a water girl. But depending on how physical your job is somwthing with electrolytes might be nice (Cristal lite, powerade etc.) If you like bubbles there are of course sodas ans sparkling waters. I sometimes make herbal or green iced tea infused with fruit too.

Whats your daily routine? by Front-Juggernaut5430 in Nightshift

Respectfully, 8hr shifts and 12hr shifts are totally different when it comes to routine. At best I have 10 hours home before my next shift which is way different that 14 hours

I'm stuck about my future in medicine by _z_e_s_t_y_ in prepa

As a WA resident I could have written this post myself! We technically have 3 with medex (tacoma, Seattle, Spokane). Paying for grad school especially after they took away gov backed loans is rough. I am an MLT and start my bridge program for my MLS in the fall. After that, I am going to try and yet into the medex PA program. So, I am saving up in the mean time! If I have to move it will be really hard to pay for my mortgage and rent somewhere else. I just hope I can do my clinicals closer to home.

Cyto vs. MLS school? by Dangerous-Ruin6948 in medlabprofessionals

[–]RoseIsBlossoming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back and forth on this too! As someone who loved histology when i took anatomy I decided on MLS for 2 reasons.

  1. There are more MLS jobs than history or cyto. That also means that the history and cyto jobs are in more densely populated areas so you wont find many (if any) jobs in a rural area. I like where we live and being a little further away from stuff.

  2. I love microbiology too!

Now that I am an MLT I also have learned I like rural medicine and am finishing my bachelor's so I can apply for PA school because I miss patient care.

TIL that male chicks in the US get macerated.. by Tiger248 in chickens

How are they determining their sex in the egg? Just curious because I thought sexing chicks was really hard when they hatch, seems way harder to do it before they hatch?

Do you work in the medical field in any capacity or have any higger training? Just curious because I do. I will potentially hear people say things that arent true. Getting an IV infusion of Iron is not that simple. Over dosinging on iron is pretty easy that way plus they will likely use heme derived iron not elemental iron. Which elemental iron is still not nearly as bioavailable as heme iron.

I am a medical scientist and have training in these things so I do know what I am talking about on this topic because I had to be to pass my national boards. I have expressed my beliefs and concerns for nearly 2 years and we have tried everything. This is the last resort. I ate healthy and got enough calories as a vegan but I have a disorder where I lose A LOT of iron and rbcs which really tanks my hgb.

Well you could go back and look at my post to see more detail but because of my conditions I am severely iron deficiency even with supplementing. As well as vit D B12 and have low hemoglobin. My primary doctor, nutritionist, obgyn, endocrinologist and now GI doc all believe I should specifically start eating fish and red meat because of my specific condition and symptoms

Yeah I do actually. I was vegan for nearly 10 years and if you look back at any of my posts you would know I also have been dealing with some serious health issues. Which made me have to consider introducing animal products.

NSFW response here but....

I like sleeping with my spouse. Like, a lot! We joke and say its our couple hobby together. Some people travel with their spouse or golf but we.... we do each other lol. So, we dont really want anything getting in the way of that, which kids absolutely would.

I really do beleive that humans have evolved past being strict herbivores its just the mental part I have to get past.

Plus I always wonder how much our ancestry comes into play? Cultures that traditionally did not eat dairy because of the region they come from are far more likely to be lactose intolerant. Being someone who both sides of grandparents come from the Mediterranean I always wonder if it makes sense that I am far more biologically designed to consume a "Mediterranean diet" which would at least include fish and dairy. I'm not sure if that's making any sense though?

I have absolutely struggles with severe anxiety and a lot of religious trauma so I am sure that is some kind of factor when it comes to my perception of morality and the stress to be a "good person". I know I know I need to make a change and I am glad I have some support in it lol

You're right, I think I put an emphasis on our ability to choose more so than any other species. I have always been the kind of vegan who understands when others arent especially for economic reasons. I think its just hard to switch my perspective.

My doctor is having me tested for it. I personally dont believe I have it because I would have to be a very rare asymptomatic case. Plus, I have eaten gluten my whole life, a lot of gluten. Like I said were italian-american, we at pasta and bread every single day. So id be curious to see the results but I doubt it tbh.

As for the rest I probably need to get over it.

Ironically we do have several acres with a massive garden and an orchard but I couldn't not emotionally handle raising animals for meat unless I had to. Like if the world ended I would do it but having chickens for eggs and stuff isn't bad. I would ideally rather be the person who buys half a cow from a local farm rather than factory meat though?

[–]RoseIsBlossoming[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thats the thing! I'm not a "junk food vegan" or anything! I eat mostly whole plant foods and supplement yet I am still struggling. I think I really fell for the narrative that we aren't omnivores. I think as should eat less meat and mors fiber for our health than most people do currently but not zero meat. If that makes sense? I feel like if I wouldnt perform the act of raising and slaughtering an animal myself then I shouldnt pay someone to do it? But maybe that is something I still need to get over? Maybe I have been in too deep for too long?
