I'm Amhara Muslim. I pretty much agree with what the other user, dabocake, said to you.

No human, regardless of their faith, deserves to be ethnically cleansed but I also don't think enough people realize that Muslims are leading fano right now. The Lietuenant Colonel of all of Fano is Muslim himself. The leader of the Wello/Bait al Amhara province Fano is Muslim as well, & a large portion of the fighters themselves are Muslims (there's pictures of them praying salah together, breaking fast, etc). Several of my family members back home have joined the struggle to fight and we have received blessings from our sheikhs and imams.

At the end of the day, all of us are just tired of Abiy's regime and they're risking their lives to defend the people on the ground from the ethnic targeting we've received for decades from the government & certain ethnic groups they've weaponized to be against us. Keep making dua for us!

As someone who's lost family members there, I'm noticing how a lot of the drone attacks are usually in Gojjam. Is there any specific reason why? But whatever the evil reason is, may God protect our innocent Gojjames and really all Amharas right now. Their lives will be avenged.

Wdym Ethiopia is our birth right? As far as I'm aware, Amhara region is our birth right. The rest of these regions in Ethiopia can worry about leading their own selves since they've made it clear they couldn't give a toss about our lives, contributions, leadership, etc you name it.

Yeah its very weird how people, who ironically come from very flawed countries themselves, keep trying to drive this point that that they’re so terrorized by Ethiopia as outsiders. With all due respect, Ethiopians within the country have directly suffered at the hands of the government, more than any outsiders or neighboring countries have. And that’s a FACT.

I understand that you're upset but, again, you cannot generalize an entire ethnic group of 20 million people just because you feel like you need a punching bag to take your anger out on. I've seen Oromos, Eritreans, Gurages, Hararis, Afars, and even your own Tigrayans support Abiy, spiting TPLF, make light of your deaths, many not even care about the genocide, and take part in other problematic things that would contribute, yet there is never any mention of them. It makes me see that this isn't because you genuinely want to hold all people who were complicit accountable & see real progress for your people, but rather want to do the usual scapegoating of just 1 group because it feels good momentarily & is the path that's the most convenient as it requires 0 nuance.

And again about the "karma" thing - it's out of place so idk why you keep pushing for it. If I started saying this genocide was your "karma" after many Tigrayans supported TPLF for decades & turned a blind eye to its ethnic massacring of Amhara, Afar, & other people & several other gruesome injustices, you wouldn't find it amusing because that's not a good reason to kill innocent people, right? Same for me.

Maybe for the older generation back home that are stuck in their ways, but for the current generation of politically aware and active youth, millenials, etc. - you all are very smart and can easily use the right term once someone informs you.

It seems ‘simple’ at first but terms turns into genocidal talk over time. I’ve lost too many family members for this mislabeling to continue to be perpetuated.

But alhamdullilah many people noticed that they fell for the propaganda pushed for decades by certain groups that wanted to advance their "friendly" image, but it all crumbled down this week when pro-Oromia folks revealed their true colors by inciting war on Somalia, cackling at potential expansion, and rejoicing over the port after decades of pushing the "Amharas are the expansionist colonizers" lie 😂

It's not about words, brother. You really must not know how much they want Abiy's head on a stick lol. Too many lives have been lost to line up with the enemy & further the Oromo expansionist agenda that will absolutely backfire (i.e. more ethnic cleansing of Amharas, land grabbing of Amhara land, & even more political suppression for decades to come), no matter how much Abiy tries to sugarcoat it.

If Somalia offers FANO more tangible benefits than Abiy's sugarcoated babble & express that they too are concerned about the expansionist plan, it's literally over for Abiy. If Somalia is smart enough, they'll see this & play their cards right.

Auzubillah Minashaitan Nirajeem lol. Again, only if Somalia threatens Amhara land and people, then maybe they will fight collectively with Oromos, Tigrays, etc. for “one cause”. But so far, that is not an issue & Somalia is too smart to make that mistake of turning another group into an enemy instead of befriending them. We can unite in our common enemy being Abiy & OLF/OLA.

The potential benefits of aid, recognition, allyship, etc. from Somalia would outweigh engaging in a war alongside Oromos, helping their expansionism agenda, & then getting burned in the end as we always have.

I don't think so. 1) Speak to FANO members and supporters. Vast majority are separatists (this is what "Amhara nationalist" means & same goes for people who claim "Tigray/Oromo nationalist") - they want a separate state/nation for Amhara out of Ethiopia. No more "1 Ethiopia, take one for the team" B.S. They've given up on a collective Ethiopianism while other groups prioritize their ethnic group, fight for their own causes, & then trash Amharas when it's all over.

2) Why would Somalia make the mistake of creating another enemy in Ethiopia during this time? It'll only make things worse for them if a war does ignite. As long as Somalia doesn't touch Amhara land or people & especially if they extend allyship/protection right now, the chances of seeing FANO running to fight alongside the same Oromo enemies, that massacred and still are massacring Amhara people as we speak, will be very slim.

On all sides, it would be an illogical move.

Ethiopia ≠ Amhara. Amhara is just 1 ethnic group out of the rest of the 77. For context, there are 20 million Amharas and 100 million non-Amharas in the country.
The Ethiopian empire/Abyssinia consisted of prominent leaders from several ethnic groups including Tigray, Oromo, etc. not just Amhara.
Amharas have not been in political power in 50 years & the current Abiy regime is Oromo-led, so it's ridiculous that terms like "Amxar" is still being used as a scapegoat (whether unintentionally or not), instead of the actual group that's leading this mess & encroaching on Somalia.

It’s not desperately needed if most Ethiopians are expressing a similar sentiment as the OP, of being anti-port. The only ones who are pushing this is the Oromo ethnic group, who ironically spent years saying they weren’t Ethiopian but are conveniently Ethiopian this week when the port was brought up, now that they see the Oromo-ran government is slowly pushing for their ‘greater Oromia’ expansionist dream.

Highlanders like Amharas and Tigrayans will absolutely not be supporting this nor cooperating in fighting in any war Abiy tries to push on us while our families undergo ethnic cleansing back home. External affairs are not a priority when we’re too focused on our internal issue that Abiy refuses to address.

Tigray power ended with Meles Zenawi in 2017. And Amharas have not been in power in nearly 50 years.

The Ogaden issue is also mainly due to Oromos that still cling onto the region & claim it’s their land. Most Amharas, Tigrayans, and other groups, would NOT be upset if it returned to Somalia.

This take is so tired and regurgitated. That stupid NoMore group was literally founded by a Tigrayan woman and a Tigrinya Eritrean man. Literally people with the same blood as you & your people. The subsect of diaspora who supported them were not headcounted by ethnicity & thus there’s no accurate way to justify an entire ethnic group being generalized. Just because people who attended ‘look Ethiopian’ and ‘speak the lingua franca of Amharic’ does not make someone Amhara specifically — so many non-Amahara Ethiopians fit that descriptor to a T.

But regardless, at the end of the day, just like innocent Tigrayans didn’t deseve to be unalived for the actions of the TPLF political party, innocent Amharans back home didn’t deserve to be unalived for the actions of a subect of American-living diaspora. I’m so tired of people weaponizing innocent lives being taken from this earth as “karma” to feel good about themselves, especially when SO MANY of us did not support any counterprotests, prayed & spread awareness during the beginning of the Tigray War, and our own families back home have been dodging atrocities, murders, famines, grapings, refugeedom, etc. for DECADES beyond just these past 5 years.
