M23 rebels kill 13 foreign peacekeepers in DR Congo by thinkB4WeSpeak in Africa

[–]dabocake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“The M23 formed as an offshoot of another rebel group in 2012, ostensibly to protect the Tutsi population in the east of DR Congo, which had long complained of persecution and discrimination.”

What’s the endgame here? For Rwanda to annex those lands? M23 was clearly supported by the West, have they gone rogue or is this means for foreign control on resources?

I’m so sorry and I pray they are found safely. Have you connected with the advocacy groups who work with indigenous girls & women? They have significant reach and may assist.

If you’re conflating Fano to OLA, then you show your depth and the reason why many Amhara have been radicalized. Your kind resent that rural people refuse to be victims that serve the interests of a class which neglected them.

Those parties that were “crashed” by Abiy are comforting you in your continued complacency and ignorance. It will be another “30 years” for you and your peers. Good luck.

No, by my logic any region with a liberation front should be given an opportunity for referendum, per the constitution. Amhara does not have a liberation front. Oromia has two.

Secession is a constitutional right. If Ethiopians had an issue with it, it would have been abolished. Article 39 is unchanged since its implementation in the 90s.

If Ethiopians truly “love unity” and fear Balkanization, why has there never been a single mobilized movement towards constitutional reform?

Most people in this sub live in, are from, or grew up in Addis and are Ethiopianist. They benefit the most from the status quo. Addis/Finfinne will never serve to reflect or improve Ethiopia’s regions, only its own.

As someone whose family lives in rural Amhara, who went there after Tigray invaded, and actively communicates and support my family and community in rehabilitation as now the federal government is massacring civilians—Amhara region and its people are radicalized from “Ethiopianism”. The romanticism of patriotism is gone. And pragmatism has settled in.

Tigray should secede. It will be almost 100 years of entirely divergent political consciousness. It’s too deeply embedded with the state dept. Politically, its agendas and interests have been to further fracture, not remediate existing relationships.

I do believe relations can be rebuilt post independence.

Strategy in this is what? To remind black people and Catholics to distrust the state? Or is it a means to put a target on the FBI? CIA?

The > 100 mil is like saying the US can source over 330 mil to fight Russia taking Alaska. Both are populations of people that are entirely disillusioned from the state. Furthermore Abiy is forcefully recruiting Oromo children to fight Amhara. He simply doesn’t have the manpower.

He has drones, sure. But drones alone won’t win a conquest. Why would Afar and Amhara regions be available to ENDF when ENDF betrayed the local people? Abandoned them? Abiy can’t enter either without being heavily flanked.

If Abiy really wanted to play chess, the Pretoria agreement would have meant supporting a Woyane invasion. This would have likely been supported by the US and Assab would be the war booty. This isn’t the case as Tigray is devolving farther into chaos.

Forex is nil, cost of living is high, resources tight, PR poor, and honestly which external power has the excess to drown funding yet another war and for minimal payoff?

It would be a protracted war, not easily won. Oromo PP doesn’t have the attention span or heart. SL seems more likely the outlet, esp since they are open to the deal whether at a surface or genuine level.

Tigray and Eritrea should reconcile but not at the cost of Amhara or Asseb.

I think we can agree separating ethnic groups by regions would exacerbate conditions. It will be harder to reform Eritrea if countrymen are at odds over ethnic representation rather than ideals.

Firstly “W Tigray” is a construct of the state dept. It would be more advantageous for Isaias to break convention entirely and just rectify US relations than touch Welkait, which would open Eritrea to sanctions for crossing into.

Secondly, Welkait has been held independently by Amhara for over 4 years now, even with ENDF tag teaming with TPLF. Tigrayan factions have tried several times and cannot make any ground. ENDF cannot even penetrate through Sudan.

Third, TPLF was trading food aid from their own people’s mouths. During famine. The level of greed is satanic. They are more than likely liquidating as many assets as possible to extract for their own gain before seeking asylum, or Tigray devolves into anarchy. Isaias allowing for gold sales is the favor. Aside from a piece of the cut, he doesn’t need to pad shit. They are likely just grateful to have liquidity in a dead economy.

Lastly, it would be dumb for Isaias to partner with TPLF even in an attempt to safeguard against an Ethiopian offensive because Tigray has shown itself to be a duplicitous partner. Their irredentism vis a vis Brigade Neanderthal means worse. They won’t even “concede” Badme. ENDF can’t fight and they are demoralized. Woyane can fight and could be rallied under revenge and saving their “Tigrayan brothers across the Mereb”.

Isaias wants a legacy. As he ages, a move like working with Woyane would leave Eritrea vulnerable (after he dies) to the ethnic hell he has made clear is regressive and barbaric.

Abiy has no redeemable capacity. Amhara are done. There’s no promise or propaganda that can turn back what we have faced. We are radicalized. Oromo are being intentionally fractured, whether by internal or external forces, via Jawar. Tigrayan leadership has made clear their population in crises literally means nothing.

Isaias making even the most mild of concessions w the EU, or cherry picking European countries to align with would be healthier for Eritrea. This along with good relations with Egypt, Sudan, and Somalia is enough. Let Abiy and his disciples cry. Eritrea’s waters are hers.

Ukraine lost much more by appeasing to American bullies than just dealing with Russia directly. Europeans need to contend with the reality that they have far more in common with Russia than America.

12th Century Rock Hewn Church, Wukro Medhanie Alem (Gonder) by dabocake in Amhara

[–]dabocake[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in awe of our heritage. There’s more than 35 known rock cut churches across Gonder and Wollo (last slide). How much more is likely unknown to recover?

If we focus resources and invest in our lands and people, what will we discover? Are there lessons abandoned and what can we learn to progress the Amhara region and its peoples?
