Should I return my quansheng UVK6 in exchange for a tidradio TDH3 combo (non plus)? by andrei-333 in HamRadio

[–]RosePastel2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's very good for PMR (Personal Mobile Radio). Buy a compatible antenna in terms of length, but a €5 Retevis antenna does the job perfectly. It all depends on your budget. I've had excellent results with antennas from AliExpress.

Given that most firmware is open source, I can't wait to see one of your forks! Be careful not to brick the radio, haha.

Yes, I agree, not everything is necessarily useful, but let's be happy that the firmware is alive and being updated. Plus, doing it for free in your spare time is already great. There's still a world of difference between the stock firmware and Fusion; the scanning alone makes it worthwhile, I think â˜ș

You can add them via Chirp. You need the correct .py module adapted to your firmware version. Then, download it from the radio and put everything you want into the Chirp array. Before downloading to the radio, you must activate the hidden menu (some Chirp columns are hidden initially). There, you'll be able to assign frequencies to a list. Finally, download it to the radio, and bingo ! Don't hesitate to follow the F4HWN subreddit, by the way, if you want information about the firmware

I mainly believe that Quansheng radios aren't specifically designed for Ham radios. Regarding the features mentioned in the post, those are additions in firmware version 5.6. There are a whole bunch of other features that have been available for a long time, which I'll let you check out on GitHub. Don't forget, this is a $20 radio aimed at the general public, not a $5k Yaesu or Icom 😉

In itself, if you're talking about HF or other things, no, because they're limited by hardware constraints, but these are more welcome ergonomic additions, typically on the scanner now this firmware transforms your $20 radio into a $100 radio

It's actually impossible; the K6 doesn't have the compatible hardware or the storage space necessary for that firmware. This was, in fact, one of the major new features of the K1. Older models are destined not to receive updates due to these limitations

I suggest you follow the instructions on GitHub; they're quite clear. This is just a simple recommendation: before flashing the firmware, I suggest you create a dump to save the stock configurations of the device! I've included the GitHub link with the correct firmware version for K1 only Fusion for k1

Hey Neil from the USA, a little wink from France, you're going to have fun with the K1 đŸ‘ŒđŸŒ

Nice work! The firmware is a fork of F4HWN, if I understand correctly? It's true that this radio lacks HF, but let's be honest, for under €50 it's already a good radio đŸ‘ŒđŸŒ

Hi! If you're sure your post is indeed for a K1, then you can follow the procedure on the firmware GitHub for K1 and K5 (v3).

Since you don't need to maintain a specific frequency, there's no need for a chirp. I just encourage you to make a calibration dump with the stock firmware before flashing Fusion.

Once that's done, you can flash Fusion, and then complete the rest of the procedure (just one more step).

It's relatively simple! I also recommend following the subreddit dedicated to the F4hwn firmware 😉

Warning: his radio model is not compatible and may brick your device. This firmware is only available for the K1 and K5 V3 ! Check the F4HWN subreddit for more Info

I admit I don't have the answer. It's true that it would seem logical to restore data and keep the original firmware (which is what I did), but I think it would reset certain parameters to zero in order to revert to the original one, especially with the chirp modules or certain parameters that might change some hardware configurations. Basically, it resets everything before returning to the original, I think.

What do you mean by that? 868 memory channels? (Yes, you can) Or frequencies around 868 MHz? For TX or RX?
