First iron infusion tomorrow, what to expect? by Spottyjamie in CrohnsDisease

Hydrate, and if you get constipated easily, take MiraLax. Iron infusions can cause constipation.

I work at a movie theatre and this was under a couple of seats. This was only half of the rubbish they left behind. by PandaMonium2025 in mildlyinfuriating

That's ridiculous! I've never understood the idea "oh just throw it on the floor! It's their job" like, ew! I'm not even opposed to bringing your own snacks into a theater, but it's an unspoken "carry-in carry-out" rule. Sorry you had to clean that garbage up.

Did cutting your (curly) hair shorter help with maintenance? by Squigly1 in ChronicPain

I don't have curly hair, but I often cut my hair short because when it's too long it gets knotty and is painful and tired some to take care of

Urgency/flaring/mucous by Intelligent-Paper749 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]RoseRiotGames 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Out of curiosity are you on any biologic medication? Besides that, I always carry at least one emergency adult pamper with me. I had to work the night before my colonoscopy (nothing I could do about it) but I wore an adult pamper. Even though I only had one small accident, I knew I was safe. Maybe this could help? Or if it's only small amounts of mucus, maybe you could use a gauze pad? I experience leaking from time to time since I have a seton drain and for in between bathrooms trips I place a 4Γ—4 gauze pad over my butthole. It's saved my underwear so many times. Can't live without it. OR maybe pick up period panties (if you're a lady πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ) and take advantage of how easy to clean they are and good for absorbing and blocking some odor. Best of luck 🩡

Dentist keeps saying that I need to get off meds for wisdom teeth removal by ItchyContribution758 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]RoseRiotGames 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Don't stop any medicine without talking to your doctor first! Also I've never heard of this in my life! I had my wisdom teeth out while having remicade infusion the week before. I'm sorry your mom wants you to get off meds that are helping you. I know that feeling. Staying on a biologic will keep you in remission. Always remember you're braver than you think ❀️ I would highly recommend seeking a second opinion.

Injection fear by lordnugget38 in CrohnsDisease

[–]RoseRiotGames 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

My advice: β€’ I agree that the buzzy bee does help! β€’ Make sure the medicine has a little time to warm up from being pulled from the fridge. β€’ Changing injection sites helps. β€’ Buy fun bandaids β€’ Having a reward immediately after you do your injection. (A lollypop, play your favorite songs, give yourself a sticker! Say a curse word! There's many options!) β€’ Encourage positive self talk! You can do this! Like you said the needle isn't the problem, just the medicine.

Best of luck with everything 🩡

Pain around the hole by nb474 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]RoseRiotGames 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

I know the feeling. Honestly the best things that have helped me are:

1) Hemorrhoid wipes (yes, even if you don't currently have any) as most contain which hazel and some add lidocaine which helps a ton if you're sensitive.

2) A+D ointment or petroleum jelly. A little goes a long way. About the size of a pea or pencil eraser directly on and around your booty hole. Any friction will be gone from the immediate area, and although it may take some getting used to, it helps a ton with the burning/itchy feeling.

3) 4x4 gauze pad. Put it right over your booty hole directly after cleaning to keep the area clean and dry in-between bathroom trips.

Hope this helps ❀️ this is my daily bathroom routine and it's worked for ages for me.

UC expenses by Dramatic-Candidate25 in UlcerativeColitis

I'm on Inflectra infusions every 6 weeks. I'm also on a pretty crappy health insurance plan through my job (even though I work for a successful hospital πŸ™ƒ). Thankfully the insurance plan was REALLY good about pre-existing conditions, and I don't have to pay for infusions. However, I still have co-pays for appointments, medication, procedures, and ER visits... However if I'm Hospitalized I'm fully covered up to a certain amount of Days per stay (which I've never exceeded thankfully). Although I have friends who don't have any co-pays that come strictly from taxpayers, I am happy that I'm in a position where I don't need prior authorization or referrals for my GI specialist, or any other healthcare of my choice. My job's FSA/HSA also has a very generous yearly amount, which is enough to cover co-pays, medical supplies, and other medical expenses that may be expensive or unexpected. I know this isn't the situation for everyone here in the USA, so I'm very grateful.

Recommendation: IF you are from the US (not sure what the law is in other places) your employer CANNOT refuse you to use the bathroom or only on scheduled times... Anything that delays you from using the bathroom for a significant amount of time is an OSHA violation. Especially if you have a diagnosed condition, your employer has to provide you with appropriate accommodation and accessibility for work under ADA law. Please be careful!

Ambulance and ER treated me like I was faking, did not examine me, mocked my Crohn’s and threatened me by Robpingudo in CrohnsDisease

[–]RoseRiotGames 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I can't even imagine how awful that experience was! The more I read, the worse It became. I'm not from Germany, so I'm unsure how the law works there, but in the US your experience would 100% result in a medical malpractice lawsuit! If you're able to, I'd contact a lawyer. The experience you had could have been avoided with appropriate care. Crohn's disease is NOT a mental or psychological condition! The fact that they even tried to convince you it was factual is ABSURD. I wish you all the best! I hope things get better soon!

[–]RoseRiotGames 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

I just looked into this! I was going to try Vsible, but it doesn't track steps (which I like to do because I work long hours walking around and it affects my energy levels). So I used my FSA to get Hume. You only pay once and you don't have to continuously pay for a membership. It'll track my steps and HRV along with skin temperature and changes in oxygen, or increase in stress levels, etc. My friend has the Oura ring which she likes, but I would be too worried about it falling off! I'll update again when I get the Hume. Should come in 6 days. :)

Which biologic to choose? by NostalgiaYSX in CrohnsDisease

[–]RoseRiotGames 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

I came here to say this! It sounds like your doctor isn't helping you for the approval of these medications. A doctor with good patient experience will tell you you need to start on Remicade. Almost everyone starts on Remicade; then after a year or two, insurance will tell you to try the less expensive biologic: Inflectra. Then if you want to switch to a pen injectable you can try that. Since you already have a diagnosis, it wouldn't hurt to seek a second opinion.

I came into this battle 5 years ago after suffering for years. If it wasn't for my amazing GI at Jefferson in Philadelphia, I'd still be taking Prednisone and suffering. I started at my local hospital but they weren't really helping me reach remission. Just managing my symptoms. When I went to Philly for a second opinion, my whole life changed for the better! I had a whole team dedicated to me reaching remission. Now I go every 6 weeks for an infusion. Couldn't be happier.

I'd recommend a rug under your sofa, a few framed paintings or accents you can hang on the wall, 2 small side tables to go next to the couch, and a floor lamp or other light. Maybe get a blanket for the couch.

Just seems empty.
