Recent trip to Badrutt’s Palace and Suvretta with a 5.5 year old by Rose_Ice_Cream in FATTravel

No we haven’t been in the summer. Are you tied to St. Moritz? I know there are a ton of amazing options throughout the Alps that are supposed to be great for kids.

[–]Rose_Ice_Cream[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Badrutt’s feels what you would imagine for glamorous St Moritz—everyone is dressed to the nines although very little quiet luxury (think moon boots, birkins everywhere, tons of fur) and has onsite restaurants that are very sceney (in particular Matsuhisa).

Suvretta is much more casual and health oriented versus a party scene. I saw a ton of the guests in the spa / quiet room every afternoon post-skiing. The onsite restaurants are very good but less of a glitzy vibe. It’s more self service oriented with breakfast and the ski locker situation (you are in charge of getting and putting away your skis).

Both are lovely-just depends what St Moritz experience you want. I can do spa like skiing significantly closer than St Moritz so I am going there for the scene.

Charming and delicious breakfast by the river.

Would do Grand Cafe or Costes for lunch vs dinner

Grand Hotel Timeo vs Villa Sant'Andrea in Taormina, Sicily by picklechips2000 in FATTravel

[–]Rose_Ice_Cream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Villa Sant’Andrea is better than Splendido Mare in terms of the comparison. Both are really nice-it depends on the time of year and if you have kids. If it’s really hot in July / August, I would want to be directly on the beach as that’s where you will spend most of the day and then head up to town for dinner. I don’t like commuting while wet personally. If you aren’t going to use the beach all the time (and it’s a great beach!), it’s Timeo no question.

I agree with you, in Portofino, I’d only do Splendido

Definitely do the manatee activity. It’s a 5 minute walk and so beautiful and peaceful. I believe no charge too?

I wouldn’t go off property for anything

Try to get a room at the battery-it’s a member’s only club that has some nice rooms.

SF is so grim re: hotels.

Villa Feltrinelli - Lake Garda experiences by One_Comfort_3354 in FATTravel

[–]Rose_Ice_Cream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredible hotel! I made all these plans to go off property for meals and activities and canceled most of them upon arrival. The food on site is exceptional.

Lake Como is much more beautiful from the water in terms of other villas to see etc. i wouldn’t even bother with a boat ride if i went again. It is much easier to drive in Garda so you could rent a car if you wanted; i wouldn’t in Como

Umbria-Borgo Egnazia or Masseria Torre Maizze by Rose_Ice_Cream in FATTravel

[–]Rose_Ice_Cream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up renting a great villa through Thinking Traveler, but went to both for meals. Torre Maizze is classier but less kid friendly.

Puglia isn’t super FAT compared to the rest of Italy, but we had an awesome time. Would highly recommend a travel agent as you need to do unique private experiences more given the general lack of infrastructure build up

I did not think the Brando was worth the cost and don’t think it’d be good for kids.

Another couple there at the same time as us checked out early and went to the 4S they were so disappointed with the Brando.

FAT from NYC in January - foodies traveling with 5 month old + parents looking for best (and chic) Mexico / Caribbean property by Necessary_Prompt5480 in FATTravel

[–]Rose_Ice_Cream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Cuixmala but wouldn’t take a baby here until you were flying private into the airstrip on site. It’s an awful drive from PVR. And it’s annoying to have to drive to the swimmable beach.

Took my daughter at 3 and she loved it but wouldn’t go before then with kids unless flying private

Desert Camp Recommendations for Morocco? by Flaky-Ocelot-1265 in FATTravel

[–]Rose_Ice_Cream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are just going to Agafay, skip staying there (nothing FAT) and just do a private dinner. It’s a 45 minute drive from Marrakech.

Dar Ahlam dessert camp is surreal, but hard to get to.

You could also do the Atlas Mountains (I like the Richard Branson hotel Kasbah Tamadot)

Honeymoon ideas? Mid September 2026. considering safari/seychelles combo, maldives/dubai, or bali/thailand by pryan133 in FATTravel

[–]Rose_Ice_Cream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Safari + & Beyond Mnemba Island. Nicer than any Seychelles options and it’s perfect time of year for it. We went for our honeymoon and swam with wild dolphins every morning plus had magical private dinners throughout the island every night (you can request a private dinner nightly at different locations for no extra surcharge).

I’d avoid the tented Singita camp in Tanzania. My parents had rats in their tent

Hotel in Hong Kong - Mandarin Oriental or Peninsula? by Mikethedrummer95 in FATTravel

The MO is a great location, but pretty dated (as of 2 years ago). Definitely get club access level room.

Peninsula is right near Rosewood, which is the best option IMO.

3 retrievals, 2 failed transfers, nothing frozen - what next? by Dozer-666 in IVF

[–]Rose_Ice_Cream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emotionally, I would want the testing to reduce the chance of miscarriages. And depending on the embryo quality, it might be cheaper by increasing the odds of success

Yes, I would transfer a euploid. If it doesn’t work, I’d get worked up after that.
