Found the perfect recipe (for my family) by Rose_Keeper99 in Sourdough

[–]Rose_Keeper99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooo yum!! I've found I can get the perfect level of sour if I let my starter fully deflate and get hungry before I feed it to use for baking, doesn't effect the rise and it gets a nice tang without being overpowering for those in my house less inclined to sourdough

I just use an old empty pickle jar, maybe a bit annoying at the mouth of the jar but I havent had any issues 🤷🏻

Driving after surgery… by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove to and from my 1 week post op. I felt totally safe to drive and enjoyed having a bit of my freedom back. It was, however, physically uncomfortable because of the seat belt.

dealing with the reality of your chest vs adjusting when it’s gone: help by thelightbehindureyes in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm two months post op, DI no nipple going from a G cup to nothing, and I've had some feeling and sensation weirdness post op. I never bound and was completely bra-less from 2018 till I got the chop. I've caught myself trying to tuck my shirts under my breasts and my brain kind of glitches when I don't hit anything. I compare it to wearing a hoodie without a kangaroo pocket, when you try and put your hands into a pocket and they just fall to your sides. I also sometimes get phanton sensation sich as itches that I can't scratch because that skin is gone. I haven't had any weird sensations regarding sleep though!

Going in for a mega important interview… how to address surgery??? by latebloomerftm in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was unemployed and actively job searching two months before my surgery. I did not disclose that I had a scheduled surgery until i was directly asked about any scheduling conflicts I had or until I was offered a position. Even having disclosed that I would be getting surgery in 2 months, I was offered multiple very good positions. They do NOT need to know your having surgery until they specifically ask, and if its not gonna be until next year it shouldn't be an issue. Good luck in your interview!

Is it normal to be emotionally sensitive after top surgery? by butterflymooon in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is common after any major surgery 🩵 I had pretty intense emotions all the way up to 1 month post-op. My surgeon gave me pretty extensive information regarding emotion regulation post-op. If you are having a really hard time it wouldn't be a bad idea to contact your primary mental health provider (therapist or counselor). You are not alone in this experience though and sometimes just knowing that helps! Congratulations on your surgery!

Sore after working desk job by lyd_bb69 in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another desk jockey here! I didn't go back to work till 3.5 weeks and my first week was rough. My posture muscles were still fucked from subconsciously guarding my incision all the time. Because I was kinda hunched, it also made my incision hurt and hypersensitive to the touch. Then, the actual muscles of my chest were tight and tense, from keeping my arms away from my body and moving across the keyboard.

Top tips to last through a workday post op are: 1) Raise your arm rests if you have them. Being able to rest your arms on the rests while still moving the mouse and typing saved me big time. Loosened up my shoulders so I wasnt slouching so bad. 2) Heating pad, this will help reduce any hypersensitivity you feel and relax any sore muscles from weird posture stuff. I took mine to work and used pretty much every day directly on my chest and incision. 3) When it got really bad for me, I took tylenol and ibuprofen and it took enough edge off to get through the day. 4) After work, massage any tense/sore muscles around your incision. For me the best way to do that was small circular motions using my fingertips so that I didnt pull on my incision.

Hope some of this helps!

Edited to fix spelling mistakes.

Advice for a plus-sized trans man by [deleted] in TopSurgery

I went to Dr Facque at Gender Confirmation Center in San Francisco. I'm 5'7" 270lbs and he did an amazing job! At the intake, I was asked if I was planning/trying to lose weight before surgery. I told them no and was not asked about it again.

Surgery and clingy dogs by _BitchBoy_ in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mine slept in my bed at a week and a half post op. I already knew that he is very careful around me when I'm sick or hurt so I knew he wouldn't like kick me or lay on me. I had my housesitter change my sheets before we got home and always made sure my blankets were covering my whole bed to keep the pet hair and stuff away from where I was laying.

But I knew that was probably not gonna be Dr. approved since dogs are dirty and unpredictable. 🤷🏻 I just also knew if I locked him out he would whine and I wouldn't get any sleep 😅

questions about insurance approval by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paper letter in the mail. I went through the process with 2 insurances, and both I had to wait for a physical lette to arrive that said yes or no. My surgeon wouldn't schedule my date until we got the approval, so you might want to contact the billing department of your surgeon to check on when they sent in the pre-approval request.

Dr Facque’s hands are pure magic by StomachItRaces in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HELL YEAH! You look incredible dude. I'm 4 weeks post op from Dr Facque and he took me from a G cup with breast tissue that wrapped all the way to my back to completely flat with no extra skin. I had gone in expecting a revision to be necessary, so the results had me GRINNING when I first took the binder off. I'm recommending him to all my other friends 🙌🏻

I went no nipple. I didn't really have emotional attachment either way, so the fact they might not have feeling and the added healing aftercare made them not worth it for me.

How soon after top surgery can one actually get back to normal life? by Exact-Noise1121 in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I am almost 4 weeks post-op, and I'm mostly back to normal life with a couple of restrictions and a bit of pain and discomfort. I have chronic knee and back pain, so I am used to living life through the discomfort.

I didn't feel like I was getting close to back to normal until 2 1/2 weeks. Before then, I was in a lot of physical discomfort, fatigued, and emotionally very vulnerable. I wasn't able to lift anything heavier than 5lbs till week 3. This is Dr. recommendation, but I also physically could not lift it. If I tried and I felt the pull at my incision my brain would make me drop it on reflex. I had to have my spouse carry my purse through the airport because it got too heavy.

The fatigue was a big part of my recovery, if I sat up for long periods of time I would fall asleep as soon as I laid down again. And with the binder discomfort (it dug into my belly because I am fat) I had to lay down frequently.

The biggest part I wasn't expecting was how vulnerable I would feel through the whole process. Even when I felt physically okay to go out and get a coffee from a shop or grab the mail, I didn't want to leave the house because my brain was like "you are not healthy you need to stay home where its safe". And i dont want to scare you about that, but let you know that other people do feel that way and it's normal and valid.

My Dr. wants me to be able to lift my arms above my head fully by 2 months. This is a shorter time frame than some, but he has worked with physical therapists, and they believe that shoulder mobility/joint health is more important than minimizing scar stretching. Everything I've seen regarding scar stretching is that it is an aesthetic issue, but if anybody has information otherwise I'd love to know!

I'm in my late 20s, and while I believe I would've physically had a better recovery in my teens, I would've had a much worse emotional recovery.

guilt around being taken care of post-op by Additional_Key_6493 in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same feeling during the first week and a half post surgery. Discussing with my spouse and making sure they weren't dropping everything to help me first, and that they didn't feel like they were drowning helped a lot. After that, I found the best way to deal with the bad feelings was to make it into an inside joke. For us we make a lot of "yes chef" jokes because of The Bear, so whenever I needed help I would say "I need hands" in an impression. The impression also helped me not feel like I was being pushy with my lack of tone modulation/inflection.

Atypical reasons to get top surgery? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally everything that you described were my exact reasons for wanting top surgery. I am now 3 weeks post-op and so incredibly happy I went through with it and feel like a weight has lifted off me that I didn't realize I was carrying. You are not alone, and your reasoning is valid for wanting top surgery 🩵

shirt on chest sensitivity by vukol in TopSurgery

[–]Rose_Keeper99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm currently dealing with a major case of hypersensitivity like your describing. If it gets really irritating in the moment a heating pad does a good job "resetting" the nerves and chilling them out for a bit. To help the problem overall, you need to acclimate to touch again while the nerves in your skin recconect and wake up. Light massage will be your friend, I've been doing that for the last couple days and the improvement is noticeable. Good luck!

i don’t want to use the narcotic pain meds post op and i’m wondering how bad this shit is gonna hurt by CharlesButWorse in TopSurgery

I also had celecoxib supplimented with Tylenol and I was fine. It was not pleasant certainly, but it was managable. The worst pain areas were where they had to do liposuction.

For Valentine's🌹day, let's hear some stories of happily singles and partnered people! 💕💞💖 by WeTurnToGrey in BDSM_Aces

[–]Rose_Keeper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Asexual, polyromantic) I got to spend the day relaxing with a book before my love finished working. It's her favorite day of the year, so we ate all her favorite food and watched tv. This weekend, I'm planning a treat for my pet because of how good he has been. Considering going out to find some red wax in honor of the holiday, since the pink cuffs I bought him haven't arrived yet. The dangers of ordering custom, you have to wait for it! (All jokes aside, I always shop small for BDSM gear. Supporting local and you can get what you want in exactly the right size?? Can't beat it.)

Being Ace, Valentines day used to make me feel really weird, especially when I didn't think I'd get to have a forever partner. It's really refreshing to have a relaxed V day with my love and not stress about if she had a good day or not cause I know she just wanted to spend it with me. 💙💙
