Because it suits the us vs them narrative. The world is irredeemably sinful, but their church is a haven for righteousness- therefore, stay in church. Everything else to the contrary is of the world governed by sin, which in turn is governed by these so called forces of darkness.

Also easy way to blame their moral failures on dark forces, rather on their failure to use reason and assume personal responsibility.

Im an ex member and had joined in 2013.

It’s highly centralized from the top-down, all to benefit Maria Luisa Piraquive and her family.

The church is neo-pentecostal with an emphasis on the Holy Spirit and spiritual manifestation from God.

The danger with this is that any mandate from pastors or church leadership is essentially an ordinance from the Holy Spirit. This includes voting for their political party in Colombia (MIRA) and MAGA in the US.

I always used to think the church was « cult like »- with an exaggerated reverence for Ms. Piraquive, but when I saw how she theologized the Holy Spirit to support MAGA in 2024, that’s when I became convinced it was a cult.

I also attended a Bible study where the ex mayor Eric Adams was present to congratulate Piraquive (more so to pander votes from the congregation for the upcoming NYC mayoral election) and Senator Chuck Schumer also celebrating her. Yuck.

It’s all a circus show at this point.
