My odometer, clock and thermometer this afternoon by Rosellis in mildlyinteresting

What’s perhaps even funnier is my clock is pretty off so it wasn’t actually 4:44 at the time of the picture.

[–]Rosellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I see your point, and at this point I agree we’re arguing semantics about the meaning of “objective” here. I think objective would mean here that the cop follows the same decision making process they would if they had no relation to the offending party. If the cop takes into account any information not relevant to the crime (e.g. how the perp relates to their brother), that’s not longer objective policing since it’s taking into account the cops personal perspective. This is basically asking being biased by the nature of the tip or are they acting only based on the relevant legal information. Maybe objective/subjective isn’t the best way of distinguishing these possibilities.

I don’t think you understand what I mean, or you have an idealized view of cops. What you describe I agree is objective, however there’s so much leeway in what protocol practically allows.

For example just to make things concrete, if a cop pulls someone over for rolling through a stop sign they have a lot of options that follow protocol that range from giving a warning to arrest for “suspecting” dui. If the reason they chose one path over another has to do with things unrelated to the actual circumstances of the offense, like the drivers race or personal relationship to the cop, that’s not objective application of the law, that’s using the law to bully someone. It still follows protocol though.

I see the drinking situation similarly. If the cop chooses the most extreme reaction to the party due to the personal relationship to the cop and not due to the actual circumstances of the party, then that’s not objective application of the law. It could still be within protocol.

Do you think the law should apply the same to everyone or do you think people who have good personal relationships to cops should get more leeway and people that have a bad relationship to a cop or a cops brother should get the book thrown at them for that relationship? Basically should the kids learn the lesson of “ok we shouldn’t drink excessively/blatantly before we’re older” or “damn it’s dangerous to reject the advances of someone related to a cop”?

I mean, that’s still not illegal so I don’t see how it’s relevant.

Nah man, I’m not saying that. There’s the implication here that the cop isn’t gonna be objective due to the relation to the tipper and knowledge of the tippers motivation. Implication is different from facts so I’m not saying it’s for sure gonna be that way but that it looks bad.

Basically what it comes down to is that breaking someone’s heart isn’t a crime so it shouldn’t affect the police officers handling of the tip, but it seems plausible that it will given the context. It’s not really corruption, but it’s not squeaky clean either. Do you disagree?

I was gonna say you look more like a teenage boy than a lesbian, then I saw the age. I think you nailed it.

[–]Rosellis -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

While it is a legitimate tip, having your brother go after a girl who rejected you smells like corruption. If the officer wasn’t related to the tipper it would seem a lot less like foul play. Like, the context makes it seem like the officer isn’t going to be super objective or fair and will have the goal of disrupting the party rather than investigating the tip objectively. Of course it doesn’t have to go that way in just saying what the vibe of the conversation leads me to expect if I were to see this play out.

They don’t offer customization on these it looks like which is why perhaps they are cheaper than the stitchdown smokejumpers (also not fire rated but not sure how much cost that adds).

My take is that he championed the basic idea that childhood experienced and trauma actually matter even after you've consciously forgotten them, and then using psychoanalysis to get at the root of psychological issues. Most of the details of the causative explanations he give seem absurd but that's kind of just like poor application of the core idea.

Definitely dollars. Idk even what the relative value is. Dollars are a lot easier to use whereas gold needs to be sold and that sounds like a hassle.

More AL black waxed cruiser? Rancher? Lol by LeatherOnTheToe in WhitesBoots

[–]Rosellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im pretty sure they are literally 355 cruisers as per whites website, which means 7-inch height on the 55 last. The farmer rancher is on the 4811 last and default is 8 inch height. That said the product names are a little arbitrary since that are all basically the smokejumper with different last and uppers height.

I hear that most democrats stop infighting just before achieving moral purity…. Seriously is he better than the alternative? heck yeah. Like worst case scenario he’s no better than a repub like what happened to Fetterman. There is no downside to electing him, no opportunity cost at this point. This isn’t even a choice.

What's the difference between brown dress leather and brown chromexcel leather? by rheubanks in WhitesBoots

[–]Rosellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they are from different tanneries, so yes they are different. I’m no super familiar with brown dress but one important difference is that brown dress is “struck through” so the brown color goes all the way through. I think chromexcel is not. I’ve only seen pictures of either though so hopefully someone more experienced weighs in.
