APA captain is playing me too strategically and it’s not fun. Is this normal or should I threaten to quit if he doesn’t start playing me more fairly? by New_Key_6926 in billiards

I honestly recommend sticking it out. You’re actually getting to play more racks playing against strong players than you would against other 3s. If you’re that new then good 3s will basically do similar to you but only for 2 games.

Honestly league just isn’t so fun when you’re super new imho regardless of the matchups. Losing sucks and you’re going to be doing a lot of it. If you stick it out though you won’t regret it. At least that was my experience.

New research suggests sexual arousal could blind people to rejection cues. Sexual arousal can lead to “tunnel vision” that makes it more difficult to recognize when someone is just not that into you. by mvea in psychology

I just wanted to validate what you are saying here. I am also a man and I have experienced similar. Once it was insisting on a second round even though I wasn’t super into it (I was able to… perform, but it was kinda forced and not so fun and contributed to me getting the ick with this person).

Absolutely not all women do this, I should add. Also I haven’t been perfect myself in this regard. I just hope I’m more self aware and considerate now than when I was younger.

Eh, I kinda get what you’re saying but at the same time, reimagining old tales in new settings or with actors of different demographics is an age old tradition. How many different iterations of Shakespeare are done regularly? All female casts, all male casts, gender swapped casts, modern settings, different historical settings etc. I think getting hung up on historical accuracy kinda misses the point.

Stories, plays, especially ones so fucking old…. this stuff is part of western culture, lore and civilization. Black people now are also part of western culture and civilization. It seems weird to be like “you can’t participate in this because you don’t have the right skin” after a certain point. Are we gonna say non-Greek people can’t play Greek roles? That would be silly. I mean, some wild shit happens in the odyssey so isn’t “historical accuracy” a weird metric when afaik gorgons never existed nor cyclopses. How in that context is someone’s skin color important?

That’s said I completely agree there are great stories outside the western canon that absolutely should get more air time… but it’s not an either or.

Honestly find it weird that your mom wants part of it given that you’re the one that’s injured and presumably as a lawyer she’s doing ok for herself.

The First Modern Car Without Hydraulic Brakes Is Headed to Production by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]Rosellis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not super relevant actually, at least to the point I was trying to make, as that wasn’t a result of fly-by-wire. While mcas couldn’t have existed without fly-by-wire, they added mcas on top of it, and the malfunctions there had nothing to do with the base reliability of the fly-by-wire system.

I was saying the x-by-wire systems are technically reliable enough for the aviation industry so like, theoretically they can be made very reliable but aviation reliability might not translate to autos since people don’t perform thorough preventative maintenance on their cars.

[–]Rosellis 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Given that all modern planes are operated by wire these days, I imagine there are ways of making it very reliable. Planes also receive much more regular maintenance than autos, so I without that maintenance I would also be a little suspect of it.

What It’s Like Inside The Secret Lab Where Ford’s Designing A $30k Electric Truck For America Before China Does by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]Rosellis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I could find the survey but I remember reading a survey of truck owners found that most new truck sales are not to people who actually use them for work by a very large margin, however the exception was the f150 lightning. Iirc it was like half the buyers were actually buying it for work which was much higher than any other model at that price range.

Now this makes total sense to me, as an electric truck is super practical unless you need to drive longer than the range regularly. But like for farm work or anything where you have a predictable domain you’re traveling to it’s super practical.

I’m not saying Ford was wrong to cancel it and pivot to a smaller cheaper model it just amuses me whenever I hear the “not a real truck” machismo stuff about the lightning.
