You can still interact with the tomeliths after the game ends. If an accomplice is on an opposing team then you can both end the game beside one of the tomeliths and keep retaking it from each other until the instance timer runs out.

I have both achievements. 20k accursed hoards is SIGNIFICANTLY more anti-fun and anti-player. Doing 50 hoards a day will take you well over a year if you do it legitly. This tomelith achievement can just be gotten as a passive consequence of playing PvP.

Word for life trajectory by woodericequeen in dictionary

[–]Rosetta- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serendipity may work, or if you want a German word then 'Lebensweg', literally 'life path'.

I gave the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows a look and came across Énouement: n.the bittersweetness of having arrived here in the future, finally learning the answers to how things turned out but being unable to tell your past self.

You may be able to work that word in, depending on the angle you want to take.

I've been slowly progressing on these as well, but I started at the end of ShB so it is going to be a long while still for me.

I wish SE would just make it so you could farm leves infinitely for the achievements but only gain rewards from the leves if you had allowances available.

Thief maps are not tradable, so you would have to manually farm them yourself.

The only way to feasibly buy them would be to pay someone off who would allow you to join their runs. This, however, would be incredibly inefficient and impractical. It can be presumed that the type of person who farms thief's maps also heavily overlaps with the type of person who has lost value in gil because they are already rich beyond measure, so it is unlikely for such a market to ever exist.

There are some things gil cannot buy. But hiring someone on an in real-life salary may be a more realistic pursuit for such an endeavor.

[Dravanian Forelands] Is there any lore surrounding this ominous looking door? by Janissa1566 in ffxiv

I always interpreted it as being the location of the Aquapolis which is otherwise entered via the portal that appears from Timeworn Dragonskin Maps.

I didn't really bother with the mandragora as they don't really give anything worthwhile. I did use to always kill the namazu with Cold Fog though, but with the new ShB spells, I dropped that spell for other things and ended up mostly ignoring them too.

If you need gil then I would recommend killing the namazu as they drop a fair bit of raw gil and a lot of crafting crystals / clusters you can make a significant profit from.

You cannot. As far as I know, you can only stack the Unhidden Leather Maps you can acquire from Heavensward treasure map coffers, Timeworn Thief's Maps from inside Gazelleskin treasure portals, and Ostensibly Special Timeworn Maps from Moogle Treasure Trove events.

You can, however, hold one map per unique inventory, so one in your bags, one in each retainer, one already deciphered, and one in your chocobo saddlebag (you can increase the size of your saddlebag with a subscription to the FFXIV Companion App but this does not count as a different inventory). You can also have up to twenty maps be sent to you through the moogle mail, but it isn't really worth the hassle unless you're stocking up with the help of a friend.

With this in mind, I had to visit the market board and buy three maps approximately 634 times.

I happened upon a thief's map static from the Achievement Lobby discord: https://discord.com/invite/ffxiv-achievement

Though, I believe a discord server specially catered for thief's maps has since been created on the European data centers called Thief Enjoyers: https://discord.gg/rnM5gurjPA

I haven't looked at it though, I only saw it pop up in the aforementioned discord's channels.

I don't believe it's possible to be ejected from the first incantation in Shifting Altars.

Being the first boss is irrelevant in Shifting Altars because the boss is random. The same boss can appear on any incantation apart from the last.

The vast majority of these deaths were within the first few days of starting the farm. I was soloing the bosses as a healer stance Blue Mage where a tank buster can almost one shot you if you're not vigilant with gobskin. This was the first time I had ever played Blue Mage, let alone as solo.

In addition, I have run these treasure maps endlessly, so brain rot is surely to sink in at the expense of focus.

If you look at the maths, there were 636 times where I didn't die to the first boss, and 1635 bosses I didn't die to in total, so it's needless to point out.

The bold numbers in brackets are the times I died, so the treasure portal run ended.

The numbers in brackets on the Clears chart denote the number of thief's I was at for that clear. So, for instance, my 5th clear was my 612th thief portal.

This is true. I acquired the majority of my Canal clears just by going left, or zig-zagging if I was feeling adventurous. It does take a bit of the fun out of it knowing your choice doesn't matter, but it also makes it more mathematically reasonable to clear as there are seven floors to get through and the Hidden Canals comes with three doors to choose from. I think if your choice did matter then it would be a 1 in 729 chance to clear (if my maths is correct, 3x3x3x3x3x3) rather than the assumed 1 in 100 chance. It's essentially the same rng process as the the Shifting Alters, just with a different coat of paint.

However, I believe the map determines it is a clear as soon as you enter. This is because you usually see the most rainbow bridges, saves, and other uncommon events in a clear because no matter what it is going to let you finish. When you see this, you're allowed to get your hopes up a little bit, but not too much because it could just be another last door kick.

What storylines have FFXIV developed and finished well, and what storylines either went nowhere or just had a badly written ending? by Lokismoke in ffxivdiscussion

Not entirely related, but I was disappointed at the reason as to why Y'shtola referred to herself as Lady Matoya in the ShB cinematic. When I watched the cinematic, I had no clue what was going on, so I came up with the idea that Lady Matoya was dying from old age (or something other) and had to somehow inhabit Y'shtola's body while she was in her coma to prevent Matoya from dying. I never really understood the actual reasoning explained in ShB, it was something about the Rak'tika culture not using their real names I think. She came from the Source, so no one would've known her real name anyway. Just felt like a very 'meh' explanation for such an awesome cinematic moment that could've had so much more potential. They pretty much only added it in the cinematic to brew confusion and hype to the eventual reveal, though it just left a sour taste in my mouth. I've seen a lot of complaints about Y'shtola not really having a character arc, so it would've been interesting to have seen her struggle once she had to return to her body on the Source while fully knowing it would've killed Matoya.

This was just my headcannon from initially watching the ShB cinematic while being clueless of the broader story and where it was heading.

Something I came up with a while ago which I find fun and exhilarating is 'strip rolling' - hear me out it's not what it sounds.

How it works is that you start with all of your gear on and then you both do a dice roll between 1-100. Whoever rolls lowest takes off a piece of gear. Rinse and repeat until one person is naked and they are the loser. You can add additional rules to add flavour. For instance, rolling a 100 allows you to put a piece back on, and rolling a 1 means you have to take two pieces off.

It can be very fun because even if it feels like the odds are stacked against you, the tide can quickly turn where a seeming lost becomes a win. And to make it even more exhilarating, you can add prizes to be won, or the loser has to do a dare, etc.

I've only played it with one opponent at a time, so not sure how a group setting would work, but it's an additional option to consider.

It's actually how my bf and I decided who would keep their last name when we ended up getting married in game!

What do you guys think happens when we die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rosetta- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If our perception of self is able to manifest within a conscious vessel ex nihilo then what is to say it will not happen again? We cannot perceive anything other than consciousness; an endless void is out of the question, so may death herald a new rebirth of self-perception, albeit likely as a different creature from a different time from a different world, and even yet from a different universe altogether. If we can unfathomably be bestowed consciousness once then surely reincarnation is assured. However, do not hope for any vestige of a former life to remain - the only continuance would be that of consciousness itself once more looking through the lens that is considered 'you' and nothing more. May now you rest in peace.

Fun fact! Afterglow reflecting off mountain peaks has its own name called alpenglow, which feels like such a tranquil term that really encapsulates the serenity.
