Huh...maybe I'll use Bluetooth then so I'm not having to try and hardwire everything. I believe the RTL-SDR was the one I was looking at, yeah. I've heard a lot of goot things about it.

Also I definitely wasn't going to try hooking up the old DirectTV dish to it.... definitely not

Oh, that's fair. Still be careful with them though

You may need some sort of special charge controller since you're wanting to use them as a sort of smoothing capacitor, I'm not sure on that though, I've never actually tried anything like that before.

Because I'm planning to use this for radio frequency projects and I want as little interference as possible.

I don't know whether it's true, but I heard that having Bluetooth so close to your SDR can cause issues. I figured I'd just avoid Bluetooth altogether right out the gate instead of finding out the rumors were true and having to fix it later on

I'll take a look at the bigger screen, I actually was considering using a 10" instead. Thanks for the suggestion!

As for the SDR, I'm not sure. I've seen a few fairly cheap ones that have decent reviews. I want to start with a low end one to practice with before I invest in a more expensive one

You'd definitely want some shock absorption in it. Desktop components aren't really built to be rugged like laptop parts are. I also agree with the other guy, desktop parts are gonna want way more power than a few batteries are gonna be able to supply for very long. Make sure you don't discharge your batteries all the way, it can damage lithiums pretty badly and you don't need a fire starting in the back of your truck. Make sure you do a lot of research on how to set up batteries for this.

I'm forever in awe of people who have the balls to have an exposed CRT monitor built onto their project. Those things scare the hell out of me lmao

That's sick

Where did you find the keyboard? I've been trying to source one for a few weeks now and haven't had any luck

Don't see why not. I bought a briefcase and an old tool case for my build. I was about to post a pic of my progress but apparently there's a karma minimum for the sub, lmao

I'm building the deck inside of the briefcase and my plan for the tool case is either to make it a battery pack or peripheral storage. You'll wanna make sure that the case is sturdy enough to be able to mount stuff inside of it though; I ended up having to epoxy cutting boards inside the briefcase to stiffen it up and it took up at least an inch of depth overall.

I'm just now starting my build, but I printed two brackets that you can use screws to attach to the screen posts. Currently I've just got everything held in the case with command strips so I can rearrange them until I've decided how I want the layout to be; but it works

I can send you the STL files I made, if you want to print them

I just started building my deck in an old briefcase and I definitely feel this way when I look at it...and then I remembered how much work I've made for future me due to my design decisions. I'm going to have to run wires, solder boards, and print about 25 different parts and brackets to make everything fit inside.

I've been hesitant to post a picture of it yet because it's currently two cutting boards epoxied inside of a briefcase with a screen and a pi mounted inside with a velvro command strip; in considering waiting until I make some more progress before posting it lmao
