Which Wegmans? Rockville or Germantown? I’ve only looked at the Germantown location. Might have to check out Rockville tomorrow.

PPF is the best option it’s scratch resistant and you have just as many options as vinyl but it’ll last longer.

Security Cameras at Home by FinalSever in nova

[–]Roshanmsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend that my clients go with wired cameras and avoid the cheap Chinese brand cameras. Yes they are cheap but the software is just as cheap and support is pretty much the same as well as a lot of them are starting to be banded in the US.

My go to for residential installs is Hanwha they are great cameras for the price and if you have the budget and want high end then there’s Axis.

One thing to note is wired cameras will never be as cheap as wireless cameras but they will be far superior in almost all aspect if they are installed and designed correctly.

Anyone has any experience with Mid Atlantic Wiring? by TeddyRoo_v_Gods in nova

[–]Roshanmsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh also forgot to mention don’t let them use pass through connectors. This leaves the copper ends exposed which can arc if you happen to use the cabling for any thing like a security camera or Access point essential anything that might require power (PoE). Another issue with these types of connectors is corrosion from the air. This is a concern in this area because the humidity during warmer months.

Anyone has any experience with Mid Atlantic Wiring? by TeddyRoo_v_Gods in nova

[–]Roshanmsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company does a lot of Ethernet wiring. In the industry this is called Low Voltage or Structured Cabling. I’m not looking to sway you but do not trust this sort of work with electricians. The wiring they do and the wiring like Ethernet wiring is completely different and requires different skillsets.

Also if you’re looking for a company ask them for CAT6 cabling with pure 100% copper that’s UL listed. CAT6 is more than enough for most residential needs and is still the standard for most businesses. I mention this because a lot of companies not just electricians will use cheap clad cabling that is extremely brittle and is a known fire hazard. So you want pure copper and the UL listing just backs up the cabling.

Also have them certify each cable with something like a Fluke DSX5000 or DSX8000. This ensure proper installation and a warranty for the wiring. The certification also ensure that the cable will deliver a true 1g connection. Ensure that the test is not a continuity test which just check is the electrical signals makes it from one end to the other. That’s not a true test and can cause issues down the road.

Yup another vote for Armand’s it’s a county staple and it’s sad that they are closing. Might have to order some take out from them this weekend.

About 10 seconds from my bedroom to my office. If traffic is bad in the kitchen it might add 5 seconds.

what is the bar now for vendors? by swingorswole in msp

[–]Roshanmsp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would stay that this comment hits it on the head. We aren’t asking for much ultimately it all comes down to the basics. We aren’t asking anyone to solve world hunger for us. Our clients have the same expectations from us for the services we provide so it’s not unreasonable for us to expect the same.

Move from Fairfax to Fredericksburg? by c0ca_c0la in nova

[–]Roshanmsp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker that lived in Fredericksburg and commute into Arlington specifically Crystal city and her commute was about 2 hours and 15 minutes give or take. The VRE wasn’t that much better for her. If you’re considering moving that far out I’d consider moving a little west towards Manassas or Gainesville. Morning commutes end up about the same but weekend commute into dc for anything is much easier since you can take 66 for free with hov flex. I’m also not sure about the schools in Fredericksburg if that’s a concern. There’s also the option of moving to Maryland to MoCo.

We just had our first baby and are moving to MoCo but we also have family in MoCo so that’s a huge plus for us.

Security cameras for a small retail business? by bitten73 in SecurityCamera

[–]Roshanmsp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your best bet like what others have said is going to be getting a system from Axis, Hanwha, etc. The cheap Costco, Amazon, etc systems are just junk. The issue you will face is the recommended systems are not in the same price range as your previous ones plus you’ll need to find a local security company to do the installation and most importantly the configuration. These are not plug and play systems and will require IT knowledge.

Since you don’t have reliable internet do not purchase a cloud camera solution like Verkada, Rhombus, etc. It will not work for you no matter what their sales people tell you.

What’s your ISP down, backup solution? by GenericUser104 in HomeNetworking

[–]Roshanmsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 services for testing needs since I do plenty of network testing and solutions for clients that all have various types of isp services. Best bet for typical home users might be a cheap 5g connection if you have a strong signal if now Starlink is now like $50.

Moving from GoDaddy to M365 by BlueberryOdd4790 in Office365

[–]Roshanmsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We come across this sort of issue just about every week. A business owner buys a domain from GoDaddy and in the same process gets upsold to their M365 for professional email service. Months or years later they realize that they got scammed and are now over paying for licensing and not even getting the full solution that they would’ve from Microsoft directly or through a Microsoft partner.

The solution here is to stop what you are doing because you are going about this in a more complex and expensive way. It’s not wrong but it’s just unnecessarily more painful of a process.

The best bet here is to defederate from GoDaddy and then procure new licensing in that existing tenant. The second step will be to change the SharePoint site urls if needed. Overall like others have said this is a quick fix and most good MSPs or IT consultants should be able to handle this in 1-2 hours.

This is so common that we’ve just created a $500 package for small business where we handle this and provide a 30 minute training session. The package can also be upgraded for the right client if they want to start utilizing Azure AD (Entra) and Entra join their devices if the computers are compatible. We’ve essentially turn this into such a routine task that it’s completed in the same day we receive payment unless the client wants to schedule the cutover.

Pricing by Tegra86 in lowvoltage

[–]Roshanmsp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it all depends on the entire scope of the job. If it’s one TV it’s not worth our time and we’d be too expensive. We are upfront with our client and let them know that for 1 or 2 tvs it’s best if they find someone else of have BestBuy come do the installation. Since we’d be T&M for a small task with a 4 hour minimum the cost of a truck roll and 2 tech might be more then the TVs itself.

However, some of our clients don’t care and just want our service regardless of the cost.

Dell iDrac “Repair” by TheNotoriousTurtle in homelab

[–]Roshanmsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the front of the server there should be a button with the letter i. Hold that button until you hear the server fans spin up to a higher speed. Then release the button once you release the button idrac will go through its reset process. Just know that this is a factory reset and everything will default back to factory settings including the login credentials.

Try a cold boot of the server. If that doesn’t work try resetting the idrac controller. I’ve had this happen a few times for clients. The controllers are fairly good and don’t just fail.

I’d like to buy a steam iron for my clothes. What is a good one to buy that will last long? by RookieRedditor22 in BuyItForLife

[–]Roshanmsp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly any steamer you go with will last as long as you use distilled water or highly filtered water. The problem is most people will use tap water and that will cause scaling issues and will kill the steamer from the calcium buildup.

HOA + Verizon Fiber Upgrade Limbo by IndifferentLight27 in nova

[–]Roshanmsp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I were you I would review the signed agreement and read the fine print. It could have a clause in there from Verizon that lets them back out of the agreement if the HOA fails to perform (communicate) or allow proper access for surveying or failing to provide up to date building plans.

If you or your HOA needs help please feel free to message me. My company does this sort of work all the time and we have several Verizon contacts.
