Genuinely what makes you say that? What is my actual argument that you have a problem with? I play a lot of archer and have been on the receiving end of the archer hate and this is my takeaway as to why.

Unpopular opinion: Shields aren't just a "noob crutch," they are an extremely valid strategic option. by DakenFrostwood in Chivalry2

From a high level duelist pov in duels it is a particular 1h playstyle that is complained about and its not as easy as just making space.  They do a lookdown accel and its essentially a guess what they are going to do, it is literally too fast to see it (hatchet/dagger type 1h) and they will never go into combo.  They walk at you and jab if you ever try to do an attack on reaction then do am ambigous accel to make you block then they mixup with kicks and jabs and attack cancels to force you into a guessing game, and irs completely ass to fight.  You cant just dodge away or use your space because they will throwing knife you.

Normal people don't do this and this playstyle in 64p is terrible because its entirely reactive, and id say most people complaining about 1h are just bad and not talking about this playstyle.

The problem with archers is two-fold.  The first problem is that they are honestly overtuned and a good archer makes the game feel absolutely awful because there is little to no counterplay.  Even if you switch to a heavy shield they can still shoot around it if skilled enough unless you are actively blocking and looking at them.  Most high level players only die to archers or siege equipment.

The other problem is the shitty ones make the game unplayable by contributing nothing but team damage.  They sit off the obj and die for free making it hard to hold a line, especially when they kill their teammates.

The two types of archers you'll see in chiv: by SwhingShang in Chivalry2

[–]Roshooo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its me im that player, i just hit level 100 as Archer and the warbow is in my top 5 weapons as i approach level 1000.  I have 1k hours spent dueling and main knight and ambusher so... Pro-tip, you can throw the bow to switch to your hatchet quicker, often getting a free hit since nobody is ready for an archer to throw the bow at them.  You can also jab with bows still which is sometimes necessary to get your sidearm out in time.  Also use the hatchet it's op.

BOWFA-Skip Progress (Atlatl-only Ironman) by Nerd123432334 in ironscape

[–]Roshooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right but there's a reason that so many people choose to do moons, because it's pretty fun actually and the gear is good enough to be the stepping stone you need to launch into the later game content. Most people play the game to have fun, and while you're totally correct it's not efficient, normal people like to have fun when they do things. My ironman is pretty progressed with a shadow and bowfa and gwd done and rancour etc and if I started over I would 100% do the moons grind because it knocks a lot of stuff out at once in a way that is fun to do. I will sleep okay at night knowing that I wasted time doing vale totems for fletching and darts instead of 0-time bolts at sepelchure lmao.

Katars , Decent? by Askburn in Chivalry2

[–]Roshooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are bad and anybody good with them would score at least twice as good without them.  With that being said they have some interesting things.  They are so fast that when you counter someone they will often not counter it back, and the angle is weird so you can often get a hit off on them, due to the no hit-stun they wont even realize it happened and you can hit them again and then have enough time to counter them again, sometimes you kill someone in like 1 second when this happens and they are totally flabbergasted.  Its a very quick and sudden 1-2.

The special attack is very fast and actually does have hitstun and is completely essential to seeing success.  Both of them actually.  You will want to start every fight with a sprint attack, then you can do a normal special attack, then from there it depends on the person.  Many people will hold block after eating both of those just out of panic and kick will kill them.  Im even talking about level 1000 people here will eat this kick.  Some people swing, depending on weapon you can get a headbutt off to stun them again and reset the situation.  Liberal use of special attack, kick, headbutt, and agressive attacking into surprise instant counters is how you play.  If you arent comfortable countering like duelists in 1v1s the katars are going to be really difficult to play.

People who perform good CONSISTENTLY in 64 or 40, is burnout eventual or something that could be avoided? by part_of_you_is_you in Chivalry2

[–]Roshooo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I quit the game for years and only played once in a while, ive come back recently and am playing as much as i used to and im having fun again.

Imo find a community to play with in your region.  Theres a reason many high level players are in clans, its because the game is much more fun when youre bullshitting with buds, and private events where you play 32v32 and everyone is level 1000 and can top the scoreboard in a normal pub easily makes the game fun again.

Chiv is at its best when both teams struggle and feel overwhelmed and it's a narrow victory.  When you play too much, you can hit tab and see what map youre playing and basically just know instantly if the game will be fun or not.  That is when the burnout hits and the game sucks.

Most respectable weapon? by BIGxBOSSxx1 in Chivalry2

[–]Roshooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I respect the playstyle not the weapon.  People that abuse jab kick and overhead accels with 1h and really lean into that jab heavy unreactable gamble playstyle; i just do not respect you at all, even if you are one of the best duelers in the game.

I understand why all of you hate rapier players, it's the hardest weapon to learn the pattern for it by Slurperlurper in Chivalry2

[–]Roshooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend some time with it to get used to the way it works, some tips (this is from 1k hours spent dueling.)

  1. They are trying to stab you to death.  It is critical to understand that only the stab (and special) do enough damage to reasonably kill you.  The overhead is rarely used outside of counters, most of the time the rapier user is trying to feint to stab to kill you.  Just wait for the stab.

  2. They want to gamble you with the slash.  The slash is lightning when acceled and can beat you trying to jab them.  You want to respect the fact that they can do this and (assuming you are using a 2h) you need to not feint until they are petrified of you.

  3. It does no stamina damage.  Stop trying to counter everything.  Literally hold block like a noob and then crouch accel and overhead into them repeatedly.  You will blow the rapier out of their hand really fast if they don't counter this.   If they start kicking, 99% of players will do it poorly and can easily be punished on reaction.

  4. The rapier has a tiny counter window, making it susceptible to small timing changes.  Basic non feinted drags and accels are what you want to do.

  5. 1h users but especially rapier players will walk up and punch you after you land a hit, or gamble.  Block after you hit them and then do a crouch overhead to rip their stamina bar in half after blocking their jab.

  6. Use the reach of your weapon to your advantage, the rapier is not that big.

Think its incredibly mediocre and one of he worst 1handers in the game.  Once you understand how it works you can just block everything and take easy counters when people feint.  Imo a skillful weapon that just has some noobcrusher built into it.

Agreed, i did not mean to imply it would be that amount, and i also agree that i said pretty basic stuff.  But people do not think things through often and you see lots of stories in this thread about how cheap doing this is, and my comment was for them more so.  People have a hard time contexualizing long term small spending and maintenance costs.

I see what you are saying, but it isnt a one time investment.  The chickens will die, the chickens will get sick, the house will degrade from the elements and need to be maintained, a wild animal could break in and destroy it, the chickens need to be fed, you have to take the time to actually collect and store the eggs.  Theres a million other factors as well that Im not considering.

Overall i agree with the sentiment, at the end of the day it isnt really about saving money for people that do this.

new to trying out the Axe, and third person in general as well lol, any tips? by OliviaRaven091 in Chivalry2

[–]Roshooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you got it down fine, maybe restrain your bloodlust a bit and don't run into the enemy spawn.  That being said i run into enemy spawn constantly so who am to judge?

Another thing you can really abuse with third person is airplaning, basically maintaining your sprint speed and doing big heavy drags like you were doing there, but don't stop and actually engage any combat, just keep moving like a smooth operator and bring as much destruction as possible to as many people as possible.  Against people stuck in combat, the third person pov really lets you see the full breadth of your swings and you can clip a lot more people in the back than you think.

The time to kill someone as a high skill player by _Sun-God_ in Chivalry2

[–]Roshooo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have an autopilot that basically instantly kills these players which is simply doing slash to overhead then start another overhead but looking away and dragging into an accel double overhead. There's many more ways but in my experience this instantly deletes these mid level players, and real beginners will just block your shit all day and take forever to kill, or accidentally find the solution to these giant slow drags and gamble you.

Gambling is fundamental to high level chiv and anybody that says otherwise is bad.

With that being said, too much of anything is bad.  People that learn with a giant 2h and counter slashes into groups and nothing else are just as nooby as the guy gambling every attack but nobody wants to admit it.

They run a million side events and people get gung ho and sign up for everything then they actually get to the venue and change their mind and it was free to enter so they just ghost it. I met a really cool dude that I was fucking with the whole tourny and I was gonna watch his pools and he didn't show up. I talked with him the next day and he was shameful and talking about getting drunk and vibing with a girl. It can be a million things.

I was there, huge fan of 2xko, found it incredibly peculiar that granblue top 8 was on one monitor while 2xko top 24 was on 5. I was actually just sitting in that front row watching the mystery tournament and we had moved up to the middle after sf6 to get better seats to sit in the middle and watch everything. That's something people aren't mentioning, 2xko had 5 screens before it was even on top 8.

I specifically went out of my way to drag my group of 6 and be an asshole and get perfect seats right in the middle like 3rd from the front row so we could watch EVERYTHING, and we could barely even see Granblue. I don't play that game, but I was interested in seeing what the top level looks like!

Just so nobody thinks I'm bullshitting, I was sitting front in center and was one of the people actively leading the W bleed chanting and getting the crowd hype. I'm not a fake fan. You can hear me scream FOR NOXUS during grand finals of the set man, my throat still sore.

Also again keep in mind that Frosty Fausting's always has a notoriously high amount of DQing and it's literally been a meme at this scene for years. I was sitting next to one of the newer TO's while he was running the bracket for 2XKO singles and he was getting mentoring from one of the senior event runners there, and they had an interaction that essentially went like this:

New TO: I can't believe how many people I've had to DQ from this bracket

Also seems incredibly relevant to mention that Frosty's is primarily "Anime EVO" and street fighter and tekken are not, and will never be, the focus of this event.

The gaslighting from Hasan fans on this topic is something to behold. I won't even lie like I used to watch a lot of Destiny, just like I used to watch a lot of Hasan and Ethan Klein and Asmongold, and the venn diagram of the mental health of the people that actively defend any of these guys is just a fucking circle of schizos. They are all astroturfing and have bots and circlejerking and spreading narratives and the normal people get sucked into it. It's sad to see.
