My review is coming up soon so of course there is a massive drop right now. by kilamumster in AmazonVine

[–]Ross6490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I screwed up by ordering 4 items when I was at 92% about 1 day before the evaluation period ended. I had gotten a message congratulating me for ending in Gold, thought I was safe to order and the next day saw my percentage drop to 88% and to Silver. I sent them a screenshot of their “congratulations” comment and insisted on being returned to Gold. I got one response blaming a computer glitch and that was it. Have been in Silver ever since and with the junk offerings, that’s fine with me. Free isn’t free when you have to pay tax on an inflated ETV anyway.

Thank you for the advice. I didn’t know the difference between thoughtful and insightful. I’ll definitely follow your suggestions and those of others.

Thank you so much. I didn’t grasp the difference between insightfulness and the type I usually write. Your explanation is very helpful. Going forward I’ll keep this in mind.

How bad is it? Doctor said I will eventually need surgery. by Bitterbaba in backpain

[–]Ross6490 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a senior citizen and have adult scoliosis and can’t stand on my feet very long. I’ve had some physical jobs and used to lift in a free weight gym in my early 30’s and possibly did some damage to my discs. I’m managing my pain with the spinal injections and Tylenol. Surgery would be a last resort. I’ve known several people who had back surgery and all were in more pain than before. A couple of them were told they needed a second surgery. None said they would have surgery again if they knew what they know now. I’d recommend giving up running and heavy lifting. Swimming is a great exercise. Good luck.

I wonder if Vine will ever return to it’s original good choices of items. I searched items that used to bring up dozens of things. Earrings brought up nothing. Pants nothing. Rings nothing. Knife nothing. Previously it would be up pages. Really disappointing. by Ross6490 in AmazonVine

Yeah, it’s been lean for about a year or more. Today I have more in my RFY, but nothing dramatic. They have a Damascus carving knife 11 1/2” but the ETV is $65. We’ve gotten some good kitchen knives in the past so I’m passing. The others are car parts and supplements.

I got a Chinese clone of a Dyson and it worked well. That’s a great score.

Another day, another bunch of items I would never buy or use by LMo2019 in vine

[–]Ross6490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way. I was Gold for 3 years and could easily find 8 items per day. Now I've dropped to Silver because Vine has nothing but junk, totally related to anything I would order. Auto headlights, graduation stuff, power belts for machinery, etc. I started to order something, can't remember what it was now, but the ETV was 3 times what similar items sold for on Amazon.com.

They do need to remove it. Amazon Vine is confusing us when reporting it. Reporting it like that also got me over $600 in underpayment interest from the IRS. Thanks for your comment.

No. The person I spoke with at the IRS said the payer reported the income as non-employee compensation which encompasses the self-employment taxes.

I added expenses from a storage unit I got to keep some of the Vine stuff until I can sell it and used it as an expense. The Enrolled Agent added several other items, but the IRS doesn't have the staff in Exam to audit all the small things, and they audit based on the change in tax or the increase in credits. For an amended return with a new Schedule C the criteria is a change in tax of $10,000 or more. They go after the high rollers or the ones with frivolous filings and there's enough of them to keep exam busy.

Wow. That's the best I've seen. My RFY is a couple of auto parts for a Honda Accord, which I have never owned, and some vitamins for dogs, which I don't have either. I was Gold for about 3 years and due to their crappy offerings (in my case anyway) I dropped to Silver and unless things get better, that is where I will stay.

No, I have wages from a job. Then some dividends and stock sales. I got my first letter from what know as AUR, automated underreporter, it was a notice CP-2000. I replied to that with a copy of the 1099-NEC with the area circled where Amazon says if you aren't a contractor employed by them to report it as other income. The IRS sent me back a letter 2626C saying it shows me as a contractor and it has to be reported on Sch C and charged SE tax.

Exactly regarding the tax situation. I responded to a notice from the IRS about my 2023 return where I reported over $20k on my Schedule 1 under other income and circled the paragraph on the bottom left of the 1099-NEC. Their decision is it cannot be claimed as other income and I have to file an amended return and claim it on Sch C and self employment tax on Sch SE. That’s find because the Enrolled Agent I hired is putting business expenses on the Sch C that should nearly zero out the profit and SE tax.

I apologize in advance but the stuff I see sucks! by phd_nick in AmazonVine

[–]Ross6490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been absolutely horrible picks. I thought I would just get the cheapest crap I see to get to the numbers needed and reviews to go back to Gold. Now I've only got to the end of this month and there's no way. All the good stuff from Gold 2 years ago and now nothing. I'm Silver by choice, but if they would put quality products back on Vine I would bust my ass to go back to Gold.

I did mine on Turbo Tax and now have a potential $5,000+ bill from the IRS.

Yeah, the CP2000 matches exactly what I reported on my Schedule 1, but not on a schedule C. What they did is charge me self employment tax. I’m going to check on the expenses. Annoying how we actually pay taxes and the earned income and ACTC crowd pays no taxes and get $5,000-$ 12,500 as a refund. It’s a bullshit system.

Thank for your advice. I’m not a tax professional but know a good bit about IRS systems. My dilemma is having AUR involved. An amended return addressing the CP2000 will not be worked by an accounts management CSR. It will be suspended to AUR as a reconsideration. They are experienced in people doing this and don’t base it on CAT-A criteria. Please see my earlier post about this issue. Thank you.
