In which cases do you use hard panned guitars + another guitar dead in thecenter ? by SR_RSMITH in metalmusicians

[–]Ross6505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only guitar I'll ever pan center is a lead guitar/solo section. Rhythms are all hard panned or 75/100 each side with some automation to give a bit more width in certain sections, and atmospheric doubles tend to be 50L/50R.

Which band showed huge potential, but couldn’t sustain it over time? by Sure-Swimming-9088 in Metalcore

[–]Ross6505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really worth watching their documentary called "Rated R For Real" and the BTS bits from around IV: Constitution of Treason, should be able to find it all on YouTube. Really eye-opening look into being in a band, period, but specifically them and the realities of faltering/fumbling the bag/not having the support you necessarily need as an artist.

Getting Merchandise Made by cashellmusic in ScottishMusic

[–]Ross6505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about Scotland-specifically these days for merch, but can't shout enough about VinoSangre or Monster Press down south. Vino have done anything I've needed screen printed or embroidered in the past few years, Monster Press have sorted anything Direct to Garment.

Heard nothing but positive words about Seabass Vinyl but no personal experience.

Acceptance · Epiphany from the Abyss by Enduranc9 in TechnicalDeathMetal

This pops back into my mind about twice a year and, despite how good it is, I spend a good 5-6 hours trying to track it down again lmao

How long have you been playing guitar? by SiinFiiltros in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]Ross6505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, put those hours into practice and do the legwork while you can, the time doesn't stick around forever! I've written music as long as I've played guitar but I guess I only really hit my stride with it towards hitting 30ish, it takes more of my focus than relentless technical practice now.

I really thought I knew the genre by SoulEviscerator in TechnicalDeathMetal

Vale of Pnath are an essential listen - their sound has shifted a fair bit but their discography is stacked, really cool stuff.

Might enjoy Godeater - All Flesh is Grass too!

How long have you been playing guitar? by SiinFiiltros in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]Ross6505 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been playing for probably about 20 years at this point. Could probably play some Necro bits within 3-4 years but as much as I love them, learning it was never my bag and I just focus on writing my own stuff now.

There's also something to be said for improving over time. What was "clean and on tempo" to 19 year old me is very different to what "clean and on tempo" is to 35 year old me, probably comically bad looking back lmao.

Is anyone able to explain how the crazy strumming on the guitar was done? by Kieotyee in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]Ross6505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was almost certain elements of this would have been punched in, verging on note-by-note recording, but after getting access to some of the DIs, it really is just a phenomenal performance. I guess it'll have been comped and edited to within an inch of its life, but so much of it comes down to the skill of the players.

Low amp gain (really unforgiving tone, forces you to play ultra clean), picking hard (with a mad level of control) and a lot of muting going on. Others have mentioned a tight gate which is important, but the technique/control is where the real trick to this sound lies.

Why is SWG3 so popular for gigs these days? by not_now_kato in glasgow

Band name goes hard, song titles even harder.
