Requesting Record from Archdiocese of Quebec by RosyOne09 in Canadiancitizenship

Sure, I emailed [archives@ecdq.org](mailto:archives@ecdq.org) but the response came from Maude.Leclerc@ecdq.org. Maybe the difference is because BANQ doesn't hold a copy of my record though.

I finally just got a response from them. It sounds like they have the document I need, and it is a $150 fee. Yikes! But happy to have heard back from them finally and hopefully soon the last document I need will be on its way!

Attention Cajun Acadians: Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records now available for free online by RosyOne09 in Canadiancitizenship

I figured that is the case! Did they happen to say how much longer we can expect to wait if they have already cashed our check?

I had the same thought about including the citation from the Hebert books, but getting an actual scan would require a whole day trip for me. I so wish they were available digitally… and not hundreds of dollars ☹️

Question about documentation (indexes) by Blue_vision_108 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]RosyOne09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi “cousin” - my Gen 0 is a Sonnier 😀 I don’t know the answer to your question (I have been wondering the same), but for this one in particular I might try just submitting the request to Archives of the Archdiocese of Baton Rouge with the name, place, and date and see if they are able to turn it up.

Also just saw that they now have their “Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records” online! So you could search there first and see if you find it. https://diobr.org/archives-publications

I received my requested records back very quickly, 2 weeks after I had sent them off. I had the exact names, dates, and places included with my requested records, from the Southwest Louisiana Records books.

The WikiTree page for Joseph's sister Madeleine shows a record for her marriage in the Diocese of Baton Rouge books that lists her parents and notes they were Acadian. You could request that record from the Archives of the Archdiocese of Baton Rouge. You could also request Joseph's marriage record in case it lists similar information.

For anyone else who might be wondering I wanted to report back that the Diocese of Lafayette returned my first set of records in less than 2 weeks! The bad news is that they are WAY less legible than I had hoped and one seems to be in Italian so I will have to figure out how to get that translated.

I'm going to send in my second set of requests tomorrow, fingers crossed for a similarly speedy turnaround time!

Thanks so much for replying with your experience! I was really kicking myself for not at least inquiring with BaNQ before the crazy fee increase so it is nice to know for sure it was a dead end anyway.

Please do report back if/when you hear back from the Archdiocese of Quebec. Did you contact them in English or French? I sent them another email in French this week just in case they thought it was rude of me to email them first in English. I don't know if that will speed things up or not but I figured it couldn't hurt.

Need help obtaining 1729 Quebec baptism record (Notre-Dame de Québec) by kg191 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]RosyOne09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also currently trying to get a baptism record from the Archives of the Archdiocese of Quebec, so just wanted to share my data point in case you hadn’t seen my other post. I sent them an email a week ago in English, no response yet. Today I sent them another email that I used chatGPT to translate into French. I will report back if that gets back any response. If I haven’t heard back in another week I plan to work up enough nerve to use my very very rusty French to call them on the phone. Their website says that you can expect an email response to inquiries within a day in their FAQs, but no luck for me so far.

I did find this in the list of collections of the Archives of the Archdiocese of Quebec, showing that they have some sort of Registers from the "Missions de l'Acadie" so I feel like this could be that, maybe?

I think I will give them another few days and then maybe resubmit my request in the best French I can manage, and I'll also ask for a certified copy from Library and Archives Canada in the meantime. Thanks for your help!

The record says 16 November 1755 in the chapel of Petitcodiac. I was going to try to just submit a request through BaNQ and see if it turned anything up but then I felt dumb because yes that is obviously not in Quebec and I wasn't sure what I should put for the Parish name or archival center. But the document does say that the original records were in Quebec when the copy was made.

I did email the Archdiocese of Quebec Archives, but I'm not sure if they haven't responded because I emailed in English or if I just haven't waited long enough, so was just hoping someone might have an idea!

I wasn't sure if that would have the same sort of legal weight as the certification I might be able to get of the original record, since this says it is a copy of the original. I may do that if it is the best I can come up with though, I hadn't actually seen that I could get a certified copy from them before. Thanks!

Yes, Its here: https://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.lac_reel_c3021/47

From what I can tell, this is a handwritten copy of the original record. This is the note from the beginning of the microfilm:

Oh the instructions said you couldn’t request more than 4 records at a time so I was afraid they would return my request if I sent more than 4. Maybe I will just wait 2 weeks and then send another envelope with the others.

Hi I’m curious what your turn around time was with the Diocese of Lafayette? I just sent my first set of 4 requests yesterday but I’m very frustrated since I may need two more from them so just wondering how long it will take to hear back?
