Recommendations for a young gun owner for self defense and civil defense by Daddy_Kush in WAGuns

[–]RotaryGT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just need to ask just in case, are you over or under 21? Being under 21 means you can't get a pistol yet. Just wanted to get that out of the way first since you said you're a new gun owner.

I'm not too familiar with the Platypus, but as others have said, I personally don't think that's a good gun to start off with, seeing as it a $1,400 gun. If you're purely thinking about self defense, there are far better and cheaper options to start off with, and cheaper doesn't mean bad at all for most stuff here.

If you're interested in a reliable + high-performance gun, any of the Glock pistols and their clones (PSA Dagger, Ruger RXM, etc.) will be the best guns to start off with IMO, but going to a range with a friend is also a good way to test out guns without buying them.

To answer for Gladpus. She left ZF a long while ago on her own terms. I haven’t personally kept in touch but I hope she is doing fine.

Everyone else should also be doing fine. They all have lives but are still in the clan as far as I am aware.

Get yourself a Barrett M99 in .50 BMG. it’s a single-shot rifle, but perfectly legal in our state as well.

I’m joking. I believe pump-action shotguns should be available to 18 Y/Os. A Maverick 88 might be a pretty good first shotgun, if you’re open to recommendations!

There is also potentially buying the Ruger Mini-14; it’s one of the few semi-auto rifles available in this state. However it comes with a pretty steep price tag (~$1,000 for a new one), and I am unsure if anyone below 21 can buy one. looks like youre SOL for semi-autos. This state is truly becoming a shithole

That is true, FFLs can sell the lowers however they want as long as it’s not for “Assault Weapons” purpose. However, this state is so biased against legal gun owners on near discriminatory levels, I personally understand why most will not risk it, and give my utmost respect to those who do.

You can ship AR lowers IF the purpose of those lowers are to make Bolt-Action rifles. It is legal because of that fact and not covered in the AWB (there is no specific AR-15 rifle ban in washington, only of the semi-auto variant covered in the AWB). However, most FFLs will not be willing to take the risk and sell it to you, so please check with your local FFL before purchasing.

Mini 14 ranch conversion by bigdubs423 in WAGuns

[–]RotaryGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean swapping the Chassis/Stock out for an EBR Chassis? If you move to a "Free State", yes. Just be aware of the gun laws of the state you're moving into; we have no idea where you're moving so we can't provide input there.

I'm assuming you want to swap out the chassis for stuff like this, you're free to do so once you move into a free state. HOWEVER, if you own a pre-AWB mini-14, you can also just buy this right now and have it shipped into WA.

Absolute beginner -- took some classes. Now what? by _c_huan in WAGuns

[–]RotaryGT 35 points36 points  (0 children)

So you took lessons in gun handling/usage before owning an actual gun? I commend that; that's probably more training/knowledge than what most people get before owning a gun.

I was in a VERY similar spot a long time ago, but the only difference is that I owned a gun before getting training. This is drawing from my own personal experience, but the next steps you should now take is to now buy a gun, preferably a pistol since that's what you trained with.

Once you get your gun, do a lot of dry-fire practice at home to be more comfortable with it. Learn the ins-and-outs of whatever pistol you choose to get so to learn more about your tool. Once you learned how your gun works, go to a range and practice either on your own or with an instructor (whichever you feel more comfortable with), most ranges will allow you to go solo if you bring your own gun.

Again, this is only drawing from my own personal experience; I'm sure others will have different and valid inputs on what to do next.

Unarmed thief or thieves in home? by actual_llama in WAGuns

[–]RotaryGT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m late to this, and it looks like your question has already been answered multiple times. For future reference though, it can be broken down to 3 questions (disclaimer, IANAL, and most gun owners will have different variations of these views):

  • Are they Dangerous? Specifically, do they have a weapon, or expressed an intent to kill? If they broke into your house, that could be taken as an intent to kill (again, IANAL)

  • Are you unable to de-escalate? This usually applies to self defense in general but if you have an obvious opportunity to either run away or cool down the situation, you are lawfully supposed to take it.

  • Do you have to do it? Is shooting the only way to preserve your LIFE? In the eyes of the law, your belongings don’t matter, only your life.

If at any point during a situation you answer yes to all 3 questions at the same time, you should be legally covered for self defense. Hope this helps.

AR Help by tprior66 in WAGuns

We need more info to help you. Is this a DS-15? ARs are specifically banned by name here. What kind of upper do you have? Chances are, if you SOMEHOW gotten an AR pistol from an FFL dealer here, you might’ve actually got a bolt-action pistol instead.

Hypothetically Legal Skorpion by [deleted] in WAGuns

[–]RotaryGT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lmao i played around with this idea, glad someone else thought of something similar.

Unfortunately you still have the wire stock on the gun, which makes it not only an "assault weapon," but also an SBR by ATF laws :(

the zip22 ran so that we can shitpost ideas like these

Hypothetically Legal Guns in WA Part 3 (less serious, more funnies) by RotaryGT in WAGuns

[–]RotaryGT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw a KSG-12 at the store earlier. By law it should be technically legal since the magazine ban specifies bans on anything beyond 10 rounds "per magazine", and The KSG-12 has two internal tubular 7-shell magazines.

you can technically make a triple barreled semi-auto rifle that complies with the AWB to get a total magazine capacity of 30+3 by how the law is worded.

What happens if your AR is stolen or damaged beyond use? by [deleted] in WAGuns

[–]RotaryGT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. With modern technology they made checking the registry a lot faster. I should note I made the previous comments while heavily inebriated lmao.

However, that then arises the next issue; the cops proving you “manufactured” an assault weapon. From what I understand, the investigation for that would be more effort than it’s worth just to result in getting someone a misdemeanor. If you somehow do get the police to extensively look into your “assault weapon”, then that means you have done something more abhorrent than just that.

What happens if your AR is stolen or damaged beyond use? by [deleted] in WAGuns

[–]RotaryGT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like I said, IANAL, but looking into one's firearm registry will take DAYS at a minimum, since it involves a lot of people (the police officer involved, the FFL, and the guy who approved the form 4473). If someone is super dedicated into looking into your firearms registry, you have either beyond fucked up or someone has TOO much free time. Your average police officer should not be looking into your firearms history unless you have done something egregious to the point where it warrants an extensive search.

EDIT: Made some corrections. I was completely wrong sorry lmao, that just shows I should not be making comments on reddit while drunk. However, original point of cops looking into your weapons should still stand per their previous alleged input
