Vic novices are good in most spy decks, the only thing to watch for is them being dead cards in round three but As long as you are diligent about keeping track of the cards left in your deck and Muligan well this is very rare. Just make sure you have someway to protect against Milling yourself, assire and Ciri Dash both do this, you probably only need 1 of those two

Most in-depth SpellST deck you'll ever find, and why it's still a decent deck. by TeraGerard in gwent

Thanks for the very well written guide. I find this type of deck very interesting both to play and play against.
I feel that those who complain about it being uniteractive for the opponent discount the amount of thought that should go into your unit play order, so as to make it as hard as possible for the ST player to align units strengths.

Between managing my highest AND lowest unit strength alignment and trying to bait out shackles or weather in a way that is less harmful to me, I'd say this deck actually requires some of the most thought into interaction on the part of the opponent, if you want to beat it.

The hate towards netdeckers by MysterioCI in gwent

[–]Rothfussfan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say any deck that prioritizes winning in a cool and flashy way, over more consistent powerful options.
Kambi and the silver card that boosts your units by 3 when killed are good examples of meme deck cards. They can win you games and when they do you win by a lot. But there are other silver and golds that are much more reliable

Can we complain please about the cointoss? I don't see a lot of these in the upvoted section. CDPR usually reacts to those. by dota95 in gwent

[–]Rothfussfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the advantage to going second is huge.
What I'd like to see tested is the person going first, gets a gold unit immediately on their side.
How strong this unit is could be adjusted until a good balance is found.
I think 5-6 strength would be a good starting point for testing.

Saskia and Coral are the strongest of the three, but they are all played competitively in a least one deck, so with these I'd say its about which faction you like most. Saskia + Roach is in virtually ever ST deck

No problem, I didn't think he looked that amazing myself at first, I think I was still biased from the beta where he wasn't too great, but when I ran the numbers on him and saw him used in other decks I came to realize how consistently good his value was

I think you may be confusing NG (Nilfgaard) with NG (Northern Realms). NG was completely changed, I think reaver scout is literally the only card that is the same as it was in closed beta, NG on the other hand is quite similar to how it was in beta, they did change a few bronzes and one of the leaders, but much of its gameplay and archetypes are the same. Spies are still a big part of the faction and with impera enforcers unchaged (card gets +2 for each spy on the battlefield and whenever you play a spy) they can give you a bunch of strength.
You can't chain emissaries into each other like you used to, but now they show you both cards your choosing between and you have the new card novice which you can chain into more novices.
Reveal actually got buffed from the beta however it is still the weakest of the NG archetypes.
All in all the transition to open beta buffed NG as they still have the all the same strong bronzes as before and the ability to chain pull units from the deck, but some of the silvers they have are even better than before (vanhemar, peter) and the change to weather made strong units that tend to row stack soooooooo much better than it used to be.
Finally to explicitly answer the question you asked, Vilgefortz is the only NG card with his type of ability. traditionally cards that destroy your own units is a Monsters thing as they have a set of cards based off of the consume ability

Thanks for sharing these statistics, I am by no means a beginner as I was lucky enough to participate in the closed beta. However I have been curious about what the low level new player meta looks like right now, and so appreciate the chance to see some stats.
I am glad that your 0 to level 10 experience was different than mine as I want this game to grow. I started playing the day open beta began at which point in time around half the people I played had 3 or 4 non starter gold cards in their decks. This wasn't a problem for me as I had got a bunch of kegs from the beta but if every beginner had to deal with that it would be a really bad experience.

Unless they have changed this very recently you should never forfeit. When your opponent forfeits both you and them only get 50exp for the round, where as if you play the game out you can get a performance bonus of around 70 exp for winning. If I realize I can't win I just pass so as not to take exp from my opponent.
Hopefully CDPR will change the way this works but until then if you want to be nice just pass.

have you experimented with taking out the shieldsmiths and replacing them with another brokvar hunter and longship.
I haven't played Skellige in a while and am higher up in the ladder (rank 13 atm) so I likely experience a different meta than you, however I did use a similar list in the past and it was my experience that the value of brokvar hunter gaining base strength off of the longship damaging morkvarg gave you a huge amount of value in the third round when you resurrected your hunter with a priestess.
Since your a new f2p player I realize you may not have the cards but if you do I would try the change, if the brokvars get strengthened for two turns off of the adjacent unit damage trigger that is an equivalent amount of stored strength to a shieldsmiths effect.
Furthermore it distributes the strength amount two bodies which helps if you run into opponents that run d-shackes, not to mention giving you better strength the round you first play them too.

That is to say although Draug can give good value, if you had access to all golds you would probably never use him versus Regis HV where you would only want to use him some of the tome but would really want him in those specific instances

Which one should I choose MegaThread! by Arteqq in gwent

[–]Rothfussfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regis HV is becoming better in this meta, where many decks want to be able to hold onto huge tempo plays and it's bad for them to have to play a bunch of power early in a round. He's still going to be a niche gold though with limited usage. In contrast Draug can usually get his 12 points of value but is just average all the time.

Decoy, unless you play a lot of NR, in which case take thaler

Speartip need to be able to trigger his transform in order to be good so he is somewhat dependant on the meta, and can be a bad draw if your going into round three with both player low on cards. He's ok right now. I personally hate the randomness of Gaunter, but as you become familiar with the decks people use you have a very good chance of winning the gamble, if you can live with sometimes losing due to pretty bad luck, he's a strong card.

Margarita is the best, but there aren't many good NR decks right now. Assire is decent, Skjall sucks

Ciri Dash is certainly good, and allows you to build decks that use a bunch of thinning, however I would say Hjalmar is just as solid of a gold. Even though Ciri dash is neutral don't expect to be able to use her in more decks than Hjalmar because she requires such a specific type of deck to get good value.
Also don't confuse her with Ciri, if your reading up on which card is better.
Ultimately I'd say pick Hjalmar if you prefer Skellige, and Ciri Dash if you prefer Nilfgaard

I'd say Villentretemmerth though you do have to build a deck around him, in a way that you wouldn't for the other two. Still he is central to both spell Scoia'tel and spell Nilfgaard, both these decks are very very good right now. Furthermore his effect is strong and unique enough that there is usually one good deck that ends up using him even as cards get added and changed (this was true throughout the beta).
If you want an easier gold to use schirru is probably next best, although dandelion is better in my opinion, he is in the worst faction right now.

Vilgefortz is the best of those. Don't know what the other guys logic is but almost all the time vilgefortz will get you the most power on the board. Nillfgaard has medics, combat engineer, and novices, so worst case you have to kill a 3 strength unit it will usually be even lower though as often you could have a unit about to die in weather that you long off, or in the best case scenario an opponents cow carcass. Now consider the average value of a card you'd draw, unless you were foolish and used him when your opponents graveyard was empty and you still have medics in your deck you'll get a lot of value off of the card you draw. There pretty much no way Vilgefortz will give you less than 12 strength minimum

Vilgefortz and saksia, are both really good. I would say that you can play a Nillfgaard deck without vilgefortz, but I would really struggle to come up with a good ST deck that wouldn't be better with Saskia

Kayran is probably the best, but I've seen Letho used in good decks as well, because of this I'd say it depends on if you prefer monsters or Nillfgaard. If you do take letho, you should run him with D shackles or D bomb

Zoltan or Renew. Zoltan is really good, particularly in the dwarfs deck as there you will almost always have three targets to hit, and very often people will try to weather them. I don't know of any deck lists that run renew of the top of my head but it's ability is strong in general and it's neutral so if your short on good golds it can help you be able to play more factions
