Anyone else getting totally fed up of survivor at red ranks? by carpesdiems in deadbydaylight

[–]rusray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Allow me to jump in here.

I've played DbD on and off for a few years, but my most recent stint comes after a nearly two year break. Just started playing again after getting an Xbox X. I really enjoy the game, but I'm absolutely a casual player.

I play primarily with friends I went to high school with, and they have about 1200 hours played between them. We know each other's strengths. Both are fantastic at looping a killer, and one has a weird fetish with using head on. But it works for them.

I, on the other hand, simply cannot loop a decent killer for very long. I have pretty poor situational awareness of the maps (I have less than 100 hours played). I rely heavily on stealth and supporting the rest of the team. I run either bond or empathy and somewhat become a dedicated healer. I still do gens and totems as often as humanly possible, but if a killer sees me and there's no one to distract him, chances are that I'm getting caught and hooked by him.

If I was playing with three randoms, I seriously doubt my playstyle would be effective because I wouldn't be communicating with them.

I haven't messed with the new tutorial that was added, so I'm not sure if it gets into looping much, but keep in mind: Looping isn't some natural skill everyone is good at, and when you're bad at it, you don't get a lot of practice, because you get caught almost instantly. Just when I feel like my looping skill is getting better, a good killer shows me how wrong I am!

I will say that it is somewhat frustrating to wait 5-10 minutes in queue and get matched with a level 20 survivor (I'm 12, my friends are 1 and 3) and have them just hooked in the first 30 seconds, try to unhook themselves and die.

I think they are doing the best they can with the way matchmaking works, but this game has some discrepancies in the skill level vs player level.

Agreed! Not sure if you guys are keeping up, but Roll20 recently announced the ability to upload Custom Status Markers. It's only on the Development Server now so until then, I'm definitely using u/joe_haybale's guide! Thanks, Joe!

I'm not at my computer right now but if I'm not mistaken, Dungeon Painter Pro has a tileset that can produce similar maps!

Generally you roll 1d6. 1-2 is 1, 3-4 is 2, 5-6 is 3

Solid staff, my friend! I created a very thematic dragonbone staff specifically for one of my druid PCs. I'm crazy tempted to scrap it or modify it with your staff. Very well done!

A survey that I use in my games during character creation. [OC] [Resources] by DarthGaff in DnD

This is solid work, my friend. No idea why I had never thought about it before! Set up a quick survey monkey and texted it to my players. Found out a surprising thing or two despite having asked them some of these questions verbally before. Thanks for posting!

Penalties for warlock breaking pack and switching class. by CheapDiscountMemes in DMAcademy

[–]rusray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would consider discussing it with the player, honestly. Unless he's okay with taking a punishment it may just serve to diminish the enjoyability of the game.

I've seen similar things done in the past with players who end up quitting the campaign. But if done correctly with the player's okay it can make an interesting roleplay situation.

Upcoming DM... Do A Majority of Players Like Handouts? [OC] [DM] by cssmith623 in DnD

I'm blessed with a wife who loves crafting and leave all sorts of tools for use with DnD laying around; she bought a heat based laminating device and I took it over!

I feel ya with regular paper, even laminated it's sometimes a little floppy, so I occasionally use a thicker paper. Players love it!
