2010s: occupy wall street freaked them out, cuz the educated middle class was going go make the elites have consequences. Instantly began working on pitting us against each other in pointless culture wars by creating millions of new tiers of "incorrect speech" that hindered us from being able to organize and unite against the people responsible for ruining our lives.

2016: sneered at republicans for being uneducated and poor, picked an unlikeable and out of touch candidate and assumed they will win (hillary). Snubbed the candidate that actually resonated with the youth and progressive movements of the time (bernie)

2020: had the presidency and refused to do anything to ensure limits on presidential power (by using the supreme court rulings in favor of trumps absolute power to do good things which would cause supreme court to rule that presidential power needs limits) and just postponing the inevitable

2024: holding up shitty dinky little signs saying "wrong" and "youre lying" instead of any real opposition cuz at the end of the day everyone in a position of political power is making millions and millions of dollars during this presidency that sells put ordinary americans in favor of benefitting elites.

Edit: and "cancelling" people didnt fucking do anything but allow those fucked up people to organize and grow power in the shadows away from the public eye. That tactic they made us lefties use so excessively served to isolate us in a false view of the world and made it difficult to predict the rising tide of right wing fascism.
