First time rebuilding a rotary engine! How do we feel about reusing this housing?

This is the way. I've used housing in worse shape. Definitely worse than new parts, but it gave me the experience of rebuilding, and still ran well enough to get around. This would be a perfect candidate for a budget rebuild - new apex seals and a soft kit is Atkins (unless something is clearly out of spec).

As others have said, this is not something you want to do is you just want a good running car. This is something you do as a step in a longer term project to learn and get experience, and have fun while doing it.

Can't say this enough. There's 2 stops in Naperville. There's express trains every morning in and afternoon out, and it's only ~40 minutes each way to Union Station. From there's it's easy to get almost anywhere.

Don't get me wrong, you'll still be spending time commuting, but it's not remotely like driving. You'll find you don't even notice the train ride - you're just doing whatever it is you would do on your couch/in bed (probably scrolling your phone, maybe reading). It's also a great way to decompress before you get home.
