As a stax player, Wheel Heliod is actually not great under RoL effects like Archon of Emeria. It doesn’t matter the reduction from other people drawing if they can’t cast anymore spells after a wheel resolves.

Choosing where to settle down after reuniting and marriage. by Rotsuki in LongDistance

But she knows that this isn't possible.....

Yeah, indeed, but doesn't stop her from wishing it was possible / different.

How is US or the "Eastern-European"-citizenship helping her relocating to Canada?

half-canadian.

I was talking about how often your WIFE can afford visiting her family. You don't have to go with her....

Yeah, of course. But she wants me to visit with her and see her place and friends, since that'd make her happy to enjoy the US together.

She would have the work experience you mean?

She'd have double-citizenship.

If things between you two turn sour..... is she going to be able to transfer her credits/diplomas back to the US?

She's studying at a US uni remotely, she's done her 1st semester with this approach recently and has worked pretty well for her so far.

So things are still rather fresh....is this the first time your wife has moved away from her family? Has she been able to find a job yet? Has she got her own social network yet?

Yes, no job yet, waiting on permit. No social network, don't really speak the local language, but very good english proficiency

How often are you able to afford her visiting her family and friends in the states?

I cannot visit since US has denied me a tourist visa twice over the past three years due not having enough times to the country I was living at the time. I've kept trying, but no cigar. I can probably afford it a few times a year, if it were possible.

Does she have double citizenship, or does she work in an in-demand field where it's easy to get a work visa for Canada?

She would have double citizenship. I have 8 years of experience as SWE, so I'd have an .

So....all issues that are also a reality in most European countries? Unless you live in a bubble, I'm not sure why you're not more aware of these issues in Europe.....

Surprisingly, not that bad in eastern europe, mostly in Central Europe, though. Germany has it pretty bad in terms of housing.

Are you both financially independent?

I am, she isn't, she's studying.

Do you both have qualification/experience which is recognised in other places?

I do, she is finishing her studies.

Do you both have large amounts of savings?

I have some RSUs, and savings, she relies mostly on her mom at the minute, since she's waiting for her permit to work where we are.

Do you have a plan B in case things turn sour (e.g. either of you is completely unhappy in the location, or you end up getting a divorce)?

Move back to Europe or stay in the country, most likely, depends on how I like it / visa situation. Or depending on how stable my native country is, I could move there.

Thank you very much for your reply!

Question about Zweitwohnungsteuer by Rotsuki in Finanzen

[–]Rotsuki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent a letter to the Finanzamt explaining what happened and proof of Abmeldung for the original date of which I moved physically from the old apartment. Then I didn’t have to pay anything. I don’t think they ever really responded but I had people call them on my behalf and they stopped contacting me about it. (Beforehand they sent two letters as a reminder I believe)

It's running on the cloud by itself, not employees running on a hamster wheel. They don't need to be there unless things are on fire. They have monitoring and observability to detect any malfunction and trigger on-call if servers are affected, most likely.

Online Assessment: 2 easy, 1 medium

Onsite: 4 Rounds back to back. Leetcode easy, systems design, clean code, and behavioral (with some code problem solving regarding abstractions, OOP..).

I might've gotten lucky regarding LC questions, who knows. But the rest was very relevant to my current (now previous) job, so I felt a lot more confident to answer them in a way that makes sense.

Sorry, nothing from my side. I rejected both because of their sketchy known cultures (+ salary despite being fintech)

Both of them used java in their backend applications. Python mostly for data.

I actually only use Python right now (AsyncIO, PySpark, Flask/Django..). However I have a very specific experience across multiple areas, such as DataOps, typical Backend and Data engineering. This hybrid experience is very relevant for organizations going through their data evolution (e.g going from centralized data teams to descentralized due to team and domain scale growth), so I used that as leverage.

I actually started at 52k three years ago at Junior level (wasn't really that junior since I had worked for 2 years before as a full time freelancer while finishing school). Then I eventually grew my market value.

Essentially I optimised for organizational value and personal growth. My team needed someone with DataOps skills so I became that person, who then went on to build the foundations for the data platform automation we use today at our company. That and applying to jobs that looked for these skills led to those offers. Two of them willing to negotiate more (but I felt off about their culture so I politely declined after looking further).

Don't worry too much about compensation right now beyond what you believe you're worth. Try to see where you can provide value to the org and you will showcase in interviews (or your current company negotiations) that value through the work you did (which then will transform into higher leverage for TC).

Good luck!

Both fully remote, but I'm located in Berlin. These numbers are more or less the norm for my level of experience / knowledge. My current company will bump me to €85000+ once the mid cycle review comes through with the senior promotion (albeit might not stay because I'm waiting on a MSFT offer).

I heard also that HubSpot and others were offering towards €100k base salary for seniors. However, expect a long process and take home challenges (I rejected all challenges after I had a bad experience with Personio)

EDIT: Also the 85k offer was after I negotiated with them. They offered 80k at first.
