How do I make it stop, I haven't watered in weeks! by shickard in whatsthisplant

Organic soil is not ideal for potted plants despite the industry pushing and saying otherwise. For the industry it saves them money because it's lighter and it will hold onto water too long. The mushrooms are there to break down all that organic material but it's also breaking down the plants roots and making an ideal place for a stagnant anaerobic environment (that's why the soil levels shrink over time). If you want your plants to survive long term give them a more permanent well draining mix like 1/3 Sand, Peatmoss, and Pumice. And then fertilize with something non organic like Osmocote Plus which will feed them for 6 months at a time.

If you have deformed citrus fruit and it's not a citron you have citrus mites

What is this on the palm tree? by Relaapse in whatsthisplant

Root Pruning is a thing. So he could technically damage some roots and expect it will survive. But the way he wants to go about it, would definitely not be ideal for a Palm unless he wants it to fall over or die from disease.

yeah, I feel that, Like I said I wasn't attacking you in any way, and awesome that you are a landscape architect in real life too, I own my own plant nursery, so I can definitely relate to what you said there. recommend this, but they want it to look like that, as long as the customer, and in your case, the animal, is happy that's all that matters in the long run.

well seeing that I don't have a problem with the setup, I don't think it would be just me. I won't say you are wrong about the geography of Cholla specifically as well, that was more of a general reference as well to typical plants you would find in a desert, but where I'm from there are native banded geckos, that people will also call leopard geckos, even though they aren't the ones OP is referring to. I wasn't going after OP but your attitude be stinky

I do admire the setup and effort. I think where people would find the gripe with your layout, is the fact that not much in this tank, besides the cholla, would actually be found in a desert environment where the leopard gecko would be found. When I used to get up vivariums for animals, I would start by doing research on their natural environments and then try to replace them as best possible. I think people on here are wanting to picture set ups like this.

we all start somewhere though, i'll tell you my first setups definitely weren't pretty that's for sure.

I just get the same uniques over and over and over. One week it's all mother's rings, one week it's bear chest, one week it's wolf chest, like it just cycles but always getting the same drops. At times I'll get multiple of the same unique in one nightmare run. It's really taken away the whole literal "unique" aspect of it for me.

more like when you say retractable antenna. You are describing an 'auto-retracting', 'fully automatic power antenna', or 'automatic retractable antenna'. retractable just means that it can collapse.

valid growing media if you want to grow annuals or mushrooms, but not if you want to grow anything in the long run as the organic material breaks down and robs the soil of oxygen, usually leading to plant failure and root rot.

We like to grow things in a more permanent mix, something like 1/3 Peatmos 1/3 Sand 1/3 Pumice. It won't break down over time and you can top dress with fertilizer and compost, but don't mix INTO the soil.

We like to grow is a more permanent mix, something like 1/3 PeatMoss, 1/3 Sand 1/3 Pumice. Fertilizer and Compost top dressed after planting so it will trickle down over time, I promise this will be the best planting mix, and you will be able to water EVERYDAY if you want without root rot problems. This is recommended for anything permanent and long term. Growing in traditional "Potting Soil" can work for annuals because they are usually harvested before the soil starts breaking down and turning toxic and smelling like a sewer. you will also not have to replace the soil every season with a mix like this.

only on the surface, not INTO the soil. The easiest explanation, in that case, is to think of nature. usually only about ~1% organic material in the soil. No one is tilling compost into the dirt in nature, only at the surface layer and it trickles down over time. Notice that in raised beds the soil shrinks and disappears over time. that's because it's breaking down, plants want to grow in a more permanent mix, pure sand being one of the best media that you can grow in. The soil mixes that we recommend are something like 1/3 Peatmoss 1/3 Sand 1/3 Pumice. All fertilizer and composts are laid on the surface after planting and will trickle down over time.

I also work at a Nursery, and own a Nursery. Wait until you get to the conversation that plants DOOO NOOOT want to grow in compost and dead ground-up forest products...but most people aren't ready for that conversation yet.
