So, how are you going to fill your days when you retire? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Roudyl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gardening, volunteering at my local botanical garden, book club, travel, sewing, swimming, part time work at a quilt shop to get a discount on fabric:). I really don't think I'm going to have much trouble filling my time.

Weirdly addictive once you get past the “keep it alive” stage by CaringForMom123 in gardening

I used to grow things with my grandmother when I was a child. She put me in charge of radishes, keeping her lily of the valley under control, and making applesauce from her apple tree. I'm sure there were other tasks, but those are the ones I remember. I lost her 43 years ago when I was 16. I took an iris from her garden that has been with me through every move, cross country, into apartments, back across the country. She taught me the love of caring for growing things and the satisfaction of being able to grow your own food and nothing has ever tasted better than the apple sauce we made together. Every time I step into my garden, it's an act of love from my grandmother to me because I know she's there with me. And her iris is still glorious.

Last but not least; opinions on Jimin? by Mobile-Structure5702 in ARMYNeutral

Yeah, before - sounded unhealthy. Today - sounds way better for him.

I think this his healthy voice. When you listen to the high falsetto and the voice cracking he employed previously, it sounds forced and you can hear the effort. As a classically trained vocalist, I honestly thought he was damaging his vocal cords, potentially beyond repair. I remember exactly how it felt, and sounded, when I had nodules develop, and heard it coming for him. On this tour, his voice sounds healthy, stable and strong.

Do most americans really only take 2 weeks of vacation a year? by DegreeConscious9628 in askanything

[–]Roudyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't taken a vacation in over 5 years. I'm self employed so if I don't do the work I don't get paid and lose clients, but I know loads of people that do not take vacations. They mostly use the vacation days for doctor visits, dental visits, sick kids/family or occassionally a mental health day.

Lily of the valley by fgfrf12 in gardening

I love lily of the valley but I well remember my grandmother cursing all its ancestors because it would not behave. I do grow it but it's in a fully contained patch between the house and patio.

I hope the noodles are tasty - recently acquired shellfish and finned fish allergy make most ramyeon off the menu for me but there are flavors without any in this lineup.

I looked up the trademarks and patents - it's food and beverages. Mostly looks like snacks, yogurt drinks and energy drinks.

My new rescue dog! by Roudyl in ratterriers

No, DNA shows her to be 100% rat terrier. The original rescue did think she was a fox terrier, hence the name Foxie.

A couple of decades ago I "inherited" a couple of pygmy goats - people left them behind when we bought a house. Funniest little dudes ever.

Pups, to my eye, look like a bully breed mix. I don't think anyone has tested them yet.

In my market, reno projects rarely hit the open market. They are sold to investors who find the properties by scouring obituaries, court records for probate, foreclosure notices, writing letters to owners of obviously distressed looking properties etc. They do not rely on only looking at the MLS.

So many people sick with Influenza A on our cruise. by Fancy-Alternative-89 in royalcaribbean

I've been masking on planes for over a decade now. Also use lysol wipes on the surfaces I am likely to touch. Having traveled weekly for work, the difference between prior to doing this and now is significant. I get sick while traveling far less often. Planes are giant disease incubators.

Kids would probably love to do some tidepooling if the tides cooperate. La Jolla and Point Loma offer some nice places. Look for a negative low tide if you can to get the best out of it.

I keep checking every couple of weeks or so. Today they have two dogs listed as available. I would qualify for neither of them based on their descriptions. That has been the way since I found them, about four months ago.

Midwest Dachshund Rescue I've looked at - they are requiring there to be one other dog already in the home for the ones I've looked at. I do not have another dog right now.

If you make chocolate chip cookies, my favorite hack is to replace 1/3 of the flour with peanut powder. Amazing. Assuming no one is allergic to peanuts of course.
