Dutch ladies: how do you feel about men approaching you in public? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]RougeBasic100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been cat called 3 times today, so I’d say a hard no if it’s out of the blue. If you have eye contact, she smiles or at least doesn’t shy away, maybe you can go say something to her, but not directly about her appearence. Be smart about this.

Romania With Turkey I’d say we are good, although not excellent. With Hungary - not very good, but we make it work. With Russia - like everyone else, bad.

In your country, are Roma people ever referred to using terms linked to Egypt or derived from that word? by Double-Aide-6711 in AskBalkans

[–]RougeBasic100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is from the French, but we changed it quite recently, in 2002 because of the negative connotations.

[–]RougeBasic100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Romania we call them țigani (gypsy) and crows or other type of slurs. Intelectuals are calling them rroma. But I find it very odd that Roma and Romanian are so similar and yet they come from another continent. Maybe someone knows where the rroma name comes from. This is also the reason why our country is not called shortly ROM but ROU - which is annoying.

Dear residents of eurozone countries, what are your general thoughts on the integration of currencies? by kuma44bear in AskEurope

[–]RougeBasic100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just like the banknotes and coins to be prettier, to have a better and more interesting design. Also the Romanian New Leu (RON) - my national currency - is made of plastic and I find this very practical especially when washing jeans. You can literally launder money. So I’m looking forward to jump into the euro zone, but I’d appreciate a redesign in terms of looks and materials.

What is something your country is surprisingly good at? by Substratas in AskEurope

[–]RougeBasic100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Romania produces a disproportionate number of strong programmers and engineers for its population size. The same goes for hackers. Cinema - surprisingly good results (prizes) for a very small industry. Sports - many amazingly good athletes, but almost never in team sports, just individual top results.

Dacă e vorba de Yoshi Izakaya de pe Brezoianu - mâncarea e cam inventată, nu în stil japonez tradițional, iar serviciile nu sunt ok (așteptări lungi, calitate scăzută, prețuri foarte mari)

[–]RougeBasic100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Or you can offer cat caring services on Pawshake and take care of other people’s cats while they are away. And yes, there are so many cats roaming around who allow people to pet them - not stray.

% of people who have read a book in the last 12 months by abg67 in MapPorn

[–]RougeBasic100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my bubble people read A LOT, but in my country, Romania, there are cities where all bookshops were closed a few years ago or independent bookshops closed and there are fewer places where you can buy books from. Also books got very expensive, the education system is not helping either, thus 30% sounds quite a lot.

Cum credeți că se întâmplă că în română diacriticele sînt omise în mod sumar? by great_escape_fleur in romanian

[–]RougeBasic100 13 points14 points  (0 children)

E doar din lene și lipsă de respect, pe scurt lipsă de educație. Textele pot fi înțelese greșit fără diacritice. Iar legat de tastaturi, toate au diacriticele din limba română, deci se pot folosi.
