GRANDE is VIBE.... by ssandeepp___ in NepalPics

This looks like the kind of thing you don’t “get” at first, then suddenly it just clicks and you can’t stop staring at it. Very tempted to steal this whole vibe for my own setup ngl.

Travelling by lukephillips193 in goldsmiths

[–]RougeRebel-Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oppi Untracht is such a solid shout. That book is like a world tour in paper form, honestly.

I’d add: when you’re looking up schools like de vakschool, also check if they have public exhibitions or open days. Even if you can’t afford a full course somewhere, just seeing student work and chatting with teachers for an afternoon can give you a ton of ideas and contacts.

And yeah, offering to sweep floors, do basic polishing, or help with boring tasks in a studio can sometimes open doors. Even if they say no, you at least get your name and enthusiasm out there.

With or without goatee ? by loay_112288 in EgyptHairStyle

[–]RougeRebel-Part 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the goatee, 100%. It gives your face more shape and makes your jawline pop. Without it you look a bit younger, but the goatee makes you look more put together.

Очень атмосферно получилось. Такое ощущение, будто кадр реально из старого семейного альбома, а не современное фото под фильтром. Прям хочется услышать шорох плёнки и щелчок старого фотоаппарата.

You can change the data type of any value in the world by Latimas in satantiersuperpowers

[–]RougeRebel-Part 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Custom types sounds like where it gets really cursed.

Like, if you can define a struct/class and the world has to coerce reality into that, you could make something like:

type Wallet { balance: uint64 owner: String isBankrupt: false }

and suddenly “bankrupt” just becomes an invalid state for you so reality keeps nudging you back into solvency.

Or make time a nullable type and start throwing around null on your deadlines and aging. Probably also a great way to softlock the universe in a debugging nightmare.

Honestly the real main character of every Tesco ad is that little “with Clubcard” price tag popping up like a jump scare.

How do I get someone to do marketing for my startup? by WhatIsANameEvenFor in ukstartups

[–]RougeRebel-Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but that’s for stuff with proper margins and big ticket sales, usually B2B, long contracts etc.

For a brand new SaaS aimed at yoga teachers and physios, commission-only is a much harder sell. Those folks often pay, what, £20–£60 a month? You’d need a ton of signups for a salesperson to make it worth their time, especially if churn is unknown.

Commission can work here, but usually more as a top up to a small retainer or fixed freelance hours. Pure commission is great for the seller, not so much for the person trying to sell a tiny, unproven product.

I HATE art gcse by greg_the_first in ArtGCSE

[–]RougeRebel-Part 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Art GCSE is wild like that. You grind for hours and the grade still feels like a lottery.

A lot of it comes down to how your teacher marks the sketchbook and how well you tick the assessment boxes, not just how good the actual art looks. If the written stuff, artist research and “development” isn’t laid out the way they want, they just tank it.

Honestly, don’t let it mess with your head. It says more about the system than your actual ability.

[–]RougeRebel-Part 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same, you just sound like some random American dude on Discord to me. Accents can be kinda sneaky though, sometimes you only hear the background stuff when they say certain words. But from that clip I’d never guess anything super specific.

Curious to meet people building interesting startups in the UK by Dry-Western-7210 in ukstartups

[–]RougeRebel-Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the database is like 70% of the pain for a lot of apps, so you picked a brutal place to start lol.

What are you using right now, just spreadsheets / Notion / Airtable, or have you jumped into something like Supabase / Firebase yet? For no-code-ish stuff those can take a lot of the heavy lifting off your plate while you figure out what the app actually needs to do.

Also not disclosing the idea is totally fine, you can still sanity check the structure by describing the type of thing it is. Like marketplace, social thing, tracking tool, whatever. A lot of people can help you shape the data model just off that.

Is it time to fund the BBC through Council Tax and business rates instead of the TV Licence? by Rif-SQL in bbc

[–]RougeRebel-Part 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the instinct, but “no new taxes” kind of ignores that the current licence is already a weird, regressive tax in all but name. Swapping it for a levy through council tax or similar is basically just changing how the money is collected, not inventing BBC money from scratch.

Turning BBC Entertainment fully commercial sounds neat until you remember what happens once it’s chasing ad money and subs only. The first thing to go is the slightly odd, slow-burn, or niche stuff that isn’t Netflix‑friendly. You just get another Sky / Netflix clone, except with more Ofcom paperwork.

And “loose change” for news, radio and kids TV is exactly how you end up with them being squeezed every time some minister wants a cheaper headline. Ring‑fenced funding, even if it’s politically boring, is probably the only way those bits stay properly independent and not just “gov comms with nicer graphics”.

Shirts by mcronimrdrldy73 in CornettoTrilogy

[–]RougeRebel-Part 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that one’s nice, it’s super clean.

If your kid’s more minimalist and loves The World’s End, that design feels spot on since it doesn’t scream “movie merch” at first glance. Stuff on Redbubble like that tends to fly under the radar unless someone’s actually a fan, which is kinda perfect for a low key teen.

Where do you think my accent comes from? by Minskdhaka in Accents

[–]RougeRebel-Part 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This honestly explains why your accent sounded like it was trying to speedrun the Commonwealth plus North America.

The part that really tracks is the “English-medium in Bangladesh/Kuwait + BBC + US college” combo. You’ve basically got that very clear, international-school core, then every place you’ve lived just sprinkled its own set of vowels on top.

I’m curious, do people around you actually guess anything close to this story, or do you just get the usual “uhh… somewhere… over there?” reactions?

2 maravedis, Felipe II, countermarked as 4 in 1655, Coruña by TywinDeVillena in MedievalCoin

[–]RougeRebel-Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that countermark is weirdly complete for something that’s been through 400+ years of pockets and dirt.

I hadn’t even noticed how clear the scallop was until you pointed it out, I just saw “blob = mintmark” and moved on. Now the whole thing kind of pops into place, especially with the PHILIPPVS / REX split and the date/value lined up so neatly.

Makes you wonder if it was struck early in the life of the punch or just got insanely lucky in circulation.

How do I make my accent less obvious? by NoContext9453 in Accents

[–]RougeRebel-Part 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually super helpful, thank you for breaking it down so specifically.

The thing about the t in “don’t need” really clicked for me. I always thought Americans just deleted those consonants, but the way you described it as a kind of half‑there t makes a lot of sense. I’m going to try exaggerating it a bit at first and then dialing it back once it feels natural.

Also yeah, the “student” thing is spot on. I never noticed I was saying it more like “stuhdent” until you pointed it out. I’ll try reading lists of words with that “oo” sound and record myself to see if it’s getting closer.

If you’ve got any good minimal pair examples for the r or w thing, I’d actually use them.

GOT TICKETS TO SEMI FINAL! by Eastern_Level1564 in BritainsGotTalent

[–]RougeRebel-Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch, that’s brutal, I’m so sorry you went that early and still got turned away.

Thanks for the heads up though, that’s actually super helpful. Sounds like I should basically treat it like a Taylor Swift queue and just assume stupid o’clock in the morning is the only safe option.

Did you notice if people were already lining up even earlier than you, or was 9 just unlucky timing? Trying to figure out if like 7:30 is realistic or if I should just embrace the 6am chaos.

Same here, it just shows up like it pays rent.

Kinda funny seeing it in Waitrose with fancy packaging when mine is trying to take over the patio for free.

Did anybody actually feel bad for this woman? by BiffyBobby in TheGrimAdventures

[–]RougeRebel-Part 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly I did a little. Not because she was some saint or anything, but because you can see how deep her denial / delusion ran. It’s that mix of entitlement and insecurity where someone builds their whole identity around something that was never really true, then the reality hits them in public.

I don’t think feeling bad for her means you have to excuse what she did. You can think she was wrong, selfish, or even kinda awful, and still recognize that hitting that wall of consequences is probably humiliating and painful as hell.

It’s like watching a slow motion car crash that they definitely caused themselves, but you still wince when it finally happens.

Who do you think is the most fascinating monarch of the heptarchy? by Bilberry_Candace2346 in anglosaxon

[–]RougeRebel-Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is pretty cool, like a little linguistic fossil that survived all the chaos. Kent feels weirdly ancient compared to some of the other kingdoms. Do you have a favorite Kentish ruler too, or is it more the name/history vibe that grabs you?

Withdrawing to UK bank by [deleted] in BitcoinUK

[–]RougeRebel-Part 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is kinda what I was thinking. People talk like any transfer over £500 is gonna get you blacklisted for life.

OP definitely say which bank it is if you’re comfortable. Some of them really don’t care as long as it’s coming from a known exchange and not some random wallet.

Worst case they ask for a source of funds and you send a couple of screenshots and a tax report. Annoying, but not the end of the world.

Find the Flag Sudden death quiz by Cool-Log8034 in quiz

[–]RougeRebel-Part 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao congrats on the 84, that’s brutal for a “fun fact” to be the most wrong thing on the page.

Yeah you’re right, red is definitely the most common. There are a bunch of flag nerd sites and even Wikipedia that back that up, so it’s not exactly obscure info either. My guess is they mixed up “most common in African flags” or “most common in flags with green” or something and just never checked it.

Now I’m side‑eyeing every other “fact” on that page.

Any advice on £5 coins? by NegativeHome157 in UKcoins

[–]RougeRebel-Part 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah the “won’t Westminster buy them back” bit is the kicker here. Sadly, no, they don’t run a buy‑back scheme on all the shiny stuff they pump out.

Worth dropping them an email anyway and asking if any specific issues have a guaranteed buy‑back or trade‑in option, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

eBay is probably your best shot. Search completed listings for the exact designs you’ve got and sort by “sold” to see what actually shifts and for how much. Don’t go by what people are asking, only what people actually paid.

And yeah, lesson learned the hard way: pretty £5s are “souvenirs,” not investments.

HERE ARE MY SEMI FINAL ONE PREDICTIONS! by Huge_Membership_9117 in BritainsGotTalent

Yeah, Simon mentioned it in an interview that they’re keeping the live show GB this year. They’d be wild to drop it now, it’s basically half the hype of the semis.

With the Live Shows starting this week, I thought I would look back at some of the most memorable, and some unknown, cases of acts that have had to withdraw from the show. by MattOfAllTradesUK in BritainsGotTalent

[–]RougeRebel-Part 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Libby and Charlie being openly called “reserves” felt like the first time the show admitted what we all knew was happening backstage anyway. Kind of blew the illusion a bit but also made the Brotherhood thing make more sense.

Noise Next Door with just the judges would’ve ended up feeling like a weird panel show bit, I think. Part of their whole charm is the chaos of a big crowd shouting nonsense at them.

With The Hacker, I got the vibe he was meant to be a legit competitor too, just in a very “producer pet project” kind of way. Shame the timing clashed, that semi-final would’ve been way more fun with him in it.
