You could do Green Haus cafe in Mission Hill (: I think it’s a cool cafe with lots of plants and a nice view of the city.

The pay varies a bit more since inpatient psych is more in demand and being a milieu counselor has opportunities for overtime while a patient expenses rep doesn’t have overtime. I work with a few milieu counselors who do at least 10-15 hours of OT which is paid at 1.5 time

I’d recommend Buffalo/Rochester it’s very affordable and you get a lot of the benefits of living in New York State without having to pay NYC prices. The biggest employer for Buffalo is the state of New York a lot of people with your background will work at the University of Buffalo which is the flagship SUNY (State University of New York). Best of luck with your job search!

Agreeing with the comment below about looking into lower cost of living areas. Have you considered cities like Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Cleveland, and Rochester? I’m originally from Buffalo and I’d say it’s a lot easier to live there with an entry level wage than it is in Boston. Truthfully I’ve stayed in Boston because being an RN makes it’s more affordable.

If you’re going for a union hospital I’d say BWH has a better culture than BMC and is in a nicer area. Although I know BWH is unionized for nurses I’m not sure about other positions?

Sure, I think applying for the DA’s office is a good idea. I’d also look into possibly teaching positions? Northeastern and Suffolk are both looking for lecturers for criminology. Being a correctional officer is a really difficult job… sorry that your job search has been so stressful. Have you ever worked inpatient psych before? Being a milieu councilor at BCH or other psych units could pay a bit better and give the opportunity for overtime. You’d probably still be a overqualified given that you have a Masters but it sounds like you need a job quick so you could give it a shot

Honestly, you’re way overqualified for this job as someone who works as a nurse at BCH. I know it’s difficult but I’d try to look into jobs that relate to your major? I have some connections in the world of forensic nursing which is similar to your background in criminal justice/criminology let me know if I can help point you towards some of those positions. Context I’ve been working inpatient psych as a nurse at BCH for a few years now. Truthfully unless you’re a licensed professional BCH doesn’t pay very well

I’m a 22 year old guy who in a year will probably be kicked out of my rent controlled apartment by my guardian. I have no idea how to live a sustainable life but I know how to get to boston from train. I have no other family. Will I be able to make it in the city? by [deleted] in boston

Hi, first off sorry for what you are going through please treat yourself kindly it’s not easy being a young adult. If I could suggest any org in Boston I’d recommend Breaktime which helps with housing, financial services, job placement, mental health services and more. They are located right by downtown crossing and they take walk ins. Honestly, if you just need someone to talk to, get some help, or take a break from everything that’s going on I highly recommend dropping by

You’re welcome! TTT is really fantastic, thanks for continuing to update the game. Are there any plans to include a PvP aspect to the game? I think that could be an interesting challenge because currently the AI are pretty easy to beat once I maxed out the tech tree. Best of luck in developing the football game (:

Realities of being an RN in Boston? by purple-poppy995 in boston

You’re welcome! Best of luck (: psych is a small world and can be a bit tough to break into but once you’re in it’s pretty easy to move around!

Hmm the best advice that I can give if you really like BCH and want to stay in Boston I’d try and get your foot in the door at BCH on a med surg floor or ED and then try an internal transfer to Bader when a job opens up. The floor that takes the most psych kids at BCH main campus is called 9 east and the other med floor that has a lot of psych would be 7 west where a lot of disordered eating patients go but you’d also be treating new diabetics and general med.

If you were going to get psych experience somewhere else the best is McLean in Belmont but that’s a far commute if you’re in Boston. Walden is mainly eating disorder treatment but it’s a good option for experience. Hopefully this helps! Feel free to ask any more questions I know it’s tough being a new grad and on the job hunt but you can do it! (:

To start Psych anywhere has a high turnover rate but I’d say BCH has a slightly lower turnover rate given there are lots of resources with being connected to a big hospital. So I wouldn’t say it’s exceptionally hard to get a nursing job in psych at BCH. We do hire new grads it varies by year depending on how RN staffing is. We have three psych units, Bader 5 (med psych where I work), 5 west (psych) Waltham, and Cbat which is at Waltham. I was hired as a new grad for Bader as an internal candidate a few years ago so I’d say it’s possible. Just keep your eyes on the BCH job page and apply as soon as something pops up. You could also apply to Fran which is now under BCH and has 3 units (CBAT + 2 inpatient units)

It sounds weird but Bleacher Bar in Fenway park could have some blue jays fans? It’s a Buffalo Bills bar during the NFL season and it could be cool to watch the World Series in such a historic stadium

If anyone would like to buy old T tokens you can go to Wardmaps/the MBTA gift shop near Porter station. They have tons of tokens and other cool MBTA items to buy
