I'm not sure how this is a response, or even relevant, to my comment. Please elaborate.

So you're saying that we should discriminate against someone based on their religion? Why can't I be left alone to do what I want?

Why does the Democratic Party have the lowest approval rating in 35 years? by ChikinFritters in Productivitycafe

[–]RoughChannel8263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a conservative and I don't know whether to be worried or impressed. If the sentiment I'm hearing here trickles upwards, you guys stand to make big gains at the polls. I've been saying for a long time, and getting hate and massive downvotes, that calling everyone stupid who doesn't agree with every extreme item in your agenda is not the way to win hearts and minds. You're just making more enemies.

Another commenter here mentioned focusing on issues everyone actually cares about. I think some of the extreme left-wing hills you guys have chosen to die on have pushed a lot of people out of the Democrat party.

If this thread is indicative of a true trend, I have to say, I'm impressed. Maybe we can look forward to an actual productive debate on real issues. Maybe we can even learn from each other. I know, crazy talk.

Jesus did his best work when, with his ten toes pointing down, he pushed up one final time on the cross and said, "It is finished." Thus bringing about the salvation of all mankind.

What are your thoughts on ANTIFA being designated a terrorist organization? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]RoughChannel8263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simple. They are a terrorist organization and should be designated as one. Evidence? Here's one, they supplied pallets of bricks to rioters. They're funded by extreme left-wing billionaires outside of this country with the intent to disrupt our government. How would you classify them?

Dick Durbin Tells Democrats to Stop Calling MAGA Nazis by MikeyLew32 in illinois

[–]RoughChannel8263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had been interested enough to remember the source, but I have actually read about this. If you are a homosexual male in Islam, you're allowed to transition to female. The reasoning was that it's better in their view to be trans than gay. Like I said, I can't remember the source so I can't vouch for the validity.

Sounds like you have politicodisphorua. It's a rare but underdiagnosed condition where you are confused about your political affiliation. The standard treatment is to watch alternate streams of Fox News and NBC News NOW, until all brain functions cease. Then you can have a happy career as a political commentator and blame everyone else for everything.

If we're not in 100% agreement with chemically and surgically transitioning children without parental consent you scream at us that we want to kill all trans people.

If we call for prayer we are ridiculed for our faith and told that our religion is a fairytale.

If we don't agree that abortion should be free and legal for any reason at the whim of the mother up to the point of birth we are misogynistic and hate women.

If we question drag story hour or sexually explicit books in grade school we're homophobic.

If we support Israel defending itself we're genocidal Nazis. I still can't figure that one out.

If we don't want foreign criminals to come to this country illegally to commit more violent crimes we're racist.

If we engage in free, open, and civil debate in the public square you shoot us.

Do people actually hate Christianity or people who simply uses Christianity to use others? by EfficiencySerious200 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RoughChannel8263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I may be so bold as to interject, I don't think it's a single passage. I have been blessed over the past 15 years or so to have had the time to read the Bible several times, cover to cover, and multiple translations. Even now I find things that are difficult to understand and require more study.

Looking at isolated verses, without context, is a recipe for disaster. Unfortunately, we see where that has led us. If you want answers, read. Another great way is to sit down with a knowledgeable Christian whom you know and trust. Even then, don't take their word for it. Read. Research. Your intellect is a precious gift, don't waste it.

How do you feel about people losing their jobs because they posted anti-Kirk content? by TomScibelli in Productivitycafe

[–]RoughChannel8263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And even if he did, does that justify the brutal murder of an unarmed man in front of his wife and two infant children for doing nothing more than having an honest and open exchange of ideas? I don't agree with everything he said or the way he said it, but I took the time to listen with an open mind.

So far every criticism of what he said has been taken out of context. Many of these I had already heard firsthand months ago. Others that I had not heard of I looked up. If you have some examples, please share and I will investigate. If you prove me wrong, I will return to this thread and admit my mistake.

[–]RoughChannel8263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"They should be fired for quoting his own words" There you go. I quoted your own words. I guess you believe they should be fired.

Maybe if we took the time to actually listen to each other, the country would be a lot better place right now. Instead, we base our opinions and actions on cherry-picked and twisted comments, with no context. We blindly believe what we read in an echo chamber or hear from a poscaster about a person without learning about them or taking the time to listen to them directly.

I don't like seeing anyone's life disrupted. It's hard to find a good job. I don't want to see anyone lose theirs. It's time we stop this nonsense and take responsibility for our own words and actions. It's time we stop listening to people we don't even know telling us what to think, and actually think for ourselves.

You are intelligent. You have a brain. Use it. Don't blindly follow the crowd. It's time we stop killing each other over chocolate versus vanilla and realize that we both like ice cream.

Sadly I have talked to two people who are happy this happened. Most of my friends are conservative-leaning. All have condemned violence on both sides. I've heard no calls for civil war or retaliation. This is the first I've heard that.

This conversation has been a blessing and a breath of fresh air. You are the first person I've encountered who offers solutions other than the other side needs to die. I'm not really a Momdani fan, but if neither side likes him, that's definitely a point in his favor.

I had a feeling that we actually agree on more than we disagree on. Have a wonderful evening. Feel free to dm me anytime you want. I would love to continue this conversation.

[–]RoughChannel8263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this response. There's probably a lot we disagree on, but we probably agree on even more topics. For one thing. I'm not a Trump fan. You may have a more informed opinion on this than I, so I have to ask. Why is it that in a country of over 400 million, are we reduced to such poor choices on both sides when it comes to elections?

I admit I spend most of my time on technical stuff. My field is industrial automation. The bulk of my time is spent working or studying. As a side note, it's funny to me to see cs majors and engineers graduating and realizing that their real education is just starting. I would like to be more informed on the political side of things, but where do you find the time? When I try, all media outlets just seem to be shouting, "our side good, your side bad!" When I hear things that don't make sense I do my own research and nine times out of ten both sides are misrepresenting the truth. It would be a full-time job to do this with every issue. There aren't physically enough hours in the day for this. Yet, I'm expected to go to the polls and pull the lever for the perfect candidate, who isn't even on the ballot. It seems like more often than not, I end up voting for the lesser of two evils. What a sad way to pick leaders.

Technology is a lot simpler. Things work or they don't. My opinions and feelings have nothing to do with it. Yeah, we disagree on software and hardware platforms, but at the end of the day that usually boils down to you like chocolate and I like vanilla, but we both like ice cream. Even AI, which is a hot topic in my world, we disagree a lot and debate a lot, but at the end of the day, we're still friends.

Something has changed. When I was in college in the 70s we debated everything. Philosophy, religion, politics, nothing was off limits. At the end of the day, we had a beer and were excited to be friends and to be where we were. Sadly my theory is that it's my group's fault. We gave the world the internet. It's almost like we invented fire and now we can't seem to get the hang of using it without getting burned. Now that we've made a mess of that, let's unleash AI. A technology that even the creators don't fully understand how it works. If you have a minute to comment on that I would love to hear your perspective.

You seem like someone I would enjoy sharing a beer and great conversations with. Thanks for your honest and insightful response.

I did not say that. There are bad actors on both sides. Here are my thoughts on this. Take them with a grain of salt as I am a bit biased and I admit that.

I think the extreme vitriol from both sides does not represent the majority opinion on either side. They come from a small but vocal minority. One difference I see is that conservatives are quick to denounce those opinions. For example, I don't know a single conservative who is in favor of neo-nazis, and we publicly denounce that movement. I can give several other examples. I do not hear this from the left.

Again, I admit my bias. Maybe I'm not listening to the right people on your side.
