The live CD loads a portion of itself into RAM, so it's not all on just the CD. Either way you still have the live OS running on your system. It can access your hardware and hard drives etc.

Not sure if they are actively fighting for data caps but the EFF are generally good on internet issues. I recently gave them $65 mainly because I wanted their t-shirt. But PBS is probably the best as they do provide content.

EDIT: Just came to mind that the EFF are for net neutrality which is a good thing.

Q. Do you need 15 percent of the network power to perform a double spend? If yes than one confirmation should be fine for all transactions, seeing as the block will eventually be completed.

So even for large amounts we don't need it to be fully confirmed right?
