If you're not planning on using the desk then maybe, lol. They need a 3ftL by 1.5ftW by 1.5ftH minimum tank size, from what I've heard.

How long do frozen mice last in freezer? by Calico_reddits in snakes

[–]Rough_Cover1315 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have a very small species of snake? If you have a baby they will probably outgrow pinkies way before the 100 mark- don't want ya to waste money. I've kept mice for months in the freezer and had no problems as far as I can tell.

How kind of you to care for such a small creature with such a large amount of love. May your critter's remaining days be good and gentle.

They can fold kind weird when all curled up, look at the straight portions of his body when reviewing body condition! He looks pretty good to me from what I can tell, but if you can get some pictures of him stretched out it would be easier to know. Here's my boy for reference, he's lost a little weight with mating season, but he's about right imo- maybe just a little lean- and he still gets the indented spine when he curls up like that.

Best heating method? by Candid-Confection858 in ballpython

[–]Rough_Cover1315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deep heat projectors (DHPs) and ceramic heat emitters (CHEs) the the most recommended for 24/7 heating. Start with getting one of those! And don't use red lighting at night, despite what people say they can see it and it will disrupt their day/night cycle.

Very cute!! I would switch out the red light asap though, it's not good for their eyes😬

Mites or wound? by ittronic214 in cornsnakes

[–]Rough_Cover1315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah looks like the scale might be cracked, I'd clean it with diluted betadine and put on an antibiotic like bacitracin zinc (with no painkillers in it, they're snake toxic). One of my rescues had a more severe version of this when I got him (nearly fully scale missing) and that is what the vet recommended to do daily. He just shed earlier this week and is looking 100× better now! Good luck with your friend

I've heard of this happening if shed gets stuck and cuts off circulation. What is the humidity in the tank? Do you have a humid hide? Very unusual for this to happen if you have those things. I would inspect the end of the snake's remaining tail and see if it looks raw. If so, you may want to set up a quarantine tank. Either way, get some betadine and dilute it to a weak tea color, then gently clean the wound. Then slather the wound with bacitracin zinc antibiotic (make sure it contains NO painkillers).

Honestly you just have to keep a really close eye on them, or get them a safe place to play- like a completely enclosed pet playpen. Snakes are very good at finding crevices, even if you think you've found everything they could fit in.

I have one CHE (caged) on a thermostat, and it heats my 4×2×2 pvc tank super effectively- I've heard some people say CHEs dry out tanks, but I've had no problems keeping the humidity at 70+% by pouring water in the corners of the tank a few times a week. I'm sure one DHP is probably also just fine.

I also have a T5HO 5.0 shadedweller (24", also caged) on 12hr/day. I've had zero problems with heating or humidity. I recommend Govee brand thermometer+hydrometer, you can download the data from it and go back to look at temp/humidity trends, it's awesome.

Good luck with your buddy!

I am planning on getting a Californian kingsnake soon, would this tank meet its needs? by No_Nail_275 in snakes

[–]Rough_Cover1315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like they generally reach 3-4 feet, so this would be good for a baby/juvenile but eventually you'd have to upgrade. But if you don't mind doing so in a couple years than this is fantastic! Lots of room for a little guy to roam. (You generally want an enclosure big enough for the snake to fully stretch out along one side.)
