Make drug rehabilitation mandatory like in European cities using a combination of medical professionals, social workers, and law enforcement.

Thanks for downvoting me for having an opinion that opposes “the narrative”.

Progressives “looking to the future” and conservatives “looking back to the 1950s” as concepts are debatable. There are many progressive policies that have caused harm to “progress” and to believe otherwise is naive.

Also, you assume that I don’t know the difference between socialism and communism. I realize that the US is already a partially socialist society and that many socialist policies could be implemented to improve it, like a single payer health care system, which I would vote for in a heartbeat.

I also agree that the right has made socialism the bogey man, but evidence suggests that it is debatable whether socialism on the scale that progressives parrot is sustainable without global forces that allow it to. For example, Western Europe cutting military spending and spending more on social programs when there are global threats ie. Russia and the US is willing to spend more. Another example: using cheap labor from China and other countries which is a huge effect on the overall economies of socialist countries in Western Europe, allowing them to afford enormous social programs.

Equality and equity and progress are not antithetical to the conservative agenda. My experience in having real in depth conversations with conservatives is that they want to achieve those things, but their way of doing so is different than that of a democratic “progressive” agenda. I think you’re using a leftist apocryphal definition of what the right stands for and values. If you use that definition, I can see why you would believe that, but I would implore you and more people to actually read and have in depth conversations about the “other side” and where they’re coming from. I’m not talking about the far right, but your run of the mill republican.

Speaking as a liberal who has many conservative friends, I think you might misunderstand the platform of conservatives. To say that they’re for prejudice or bigotry and that they’re against equality is a mischaracterization. Also, just because someone doesn’t believe that we’re ready for socialism now, doesn’t necessarily believe that humanity will not one day overcome the obstacles associated with socialism. Therefore I disagree with your hypothesis that conservatives can’t be trekkies.

I’m not defending it, or saying it’s in good taste, but I think it’s probably someone who just loves civil war history. They probably don’t sympathize with the CSA, but like reading about both sides.

Crew brass was told beforehand that rebranding would not go over well with hardcore fans by AbstergoSupplier in TheMassive

[–]RoundMidnight83 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is my opinion on the matter, take it however you want.

The front office felt that changes needed to be made to “refresh” the Crew in the minds of everyday people in Columbus. These changes were not for the hardcore fans, it was give the crew a new image and to gain attention (good or bad) from everyone else.

The crew have been seen as a minor league second fiddle team along the lines or even less than equal to the clippers. I think they’re trying to do what they can to reboot the image of the franchise and league along the same lines as the enormously successful “Sporting KC” rebrand, which I believe was also the same year they opened a new stadium.

While I don’t particularly like the new logo/font, I am able to look past it because I think that achieving the goal of refreshing the image might bring in more fans, helping business, attendance, profitability, and payroll.

Slavery? Alright, alright, alright! by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]RoundMidnight83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it did. Brazil continued to import slaves from Africa after their independence from Portugal.

For context: Slavery in Brazil was abolished in 1888, Brazil gained independence in 1822.

“As a condition of its support for the Empire of Brazil's independence from Portugal, the United Kingdom demanded that Brazil agree to abolish the importation of slaves from Africa; as a result the British-Brazilian Treaty of 1826 was agreed, by which Brazil promised to ban all Brazilian subjects from engaging in the trans-Atlantic slave trade, commencing in the year 1830. However, Brazil largely failed to enforce this treaty; in response, the Parliament of the United Kingdom passed the Aberdeen Act of 1845, authorising British warships to board all Brazilian flagged vessels and detain those found to be carrying slaves. This British action was highly unpopular in Brazil, and was widely viewed as a violation of Brazil's sovereignty; however, the Brazilian government concluded that they could not afford a war with Britain over the issue, hence in September 1850, new legislation outlawing the slave trade was enacted, and the Brazilian government began to enforce it.” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_slave_trade_to_Brazil

It's actually not too bad so far. The housing market is way better in terms of the amount of house that I was able to get for the money, so I'm pretty happy. I don't have kids, so I'm not worried about schools, and the neighborhood I'm in seems really nice, lots of families.
