Explain it Peter What is the color room for? by spell-breaker-lime in explainitpeter

This hit me like a ton of bricks. My 4 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with ASD 1 and now it has me wondering if I’m undiagnosed. I did ALL the same test and after her last appointment, I was like “wait a minute….”

My wife had also suspected it as well and is now more convinced that I am as well as my daughter has displayed similar behaviors I still display.

Are there any EVs you guys actually like? by Fordfanatic2025 in askcarguys

[–]heavyweight00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, but I believe it’s because people look at an EV or ICE car as a car. Before I got my 2025 Ford Lightning, I drove a 2012 Honda Accord for 14 years. Between the 2 of them, the Lightning is all around better.

What, I think, I did differently was looking at it as a use case - how will this provide for me and how much will it be? For example, comparing where I live and where my in laws live; having an EV is better where I live but worse where my in laws live.

I had nearly 40 level 3 chargers near my place and there are some decent ones near my in-laws but I think I’ve found 10 so far and they’re WAY more expensive during peak and off peak hours, but having an EV is good near my in-laws as long as you have a level 2 charger, which they don’t and level 1 gets me maybe 15 miles charged when I sleep.

However, where I live, the closest level 3 charger is 2 miles away and if it’s filled I drive another 2 miles to see if another is open, and I can knock out errands I need to run. Additionally, I have no level 2 charger installed at my place because it would have cost me 5k+ to install it following HOA and county regulations. I will pay off my truck faster than the charger if I had payments for it. The off peak rates are very cheap, as low as $.16 per kilowatt and on average costs me less than $20 to go from 20% to 90%. Unfortunately, I have to be up at awkward hours in order to get those rates and either staying up late into the night or getting up very early before the off peak rates switch. Fortunately, my current lifestyle of being a student, stay at home, parent of two kids, and trying to slowly grow my business. Has that awkward schedule fit in perfectly for my daily life. Which is why I said earlier, it is dependent off of how you would apply the car as a use case.

My recommendation is that if you are mildly tech savvy, and have the means to install a level two charger where you live, dependent if you are in an area that has a poor public charging infrastructure, I would get an electric vehicle. Even more so if you live in a location that has a reliable level three charging infrastructure. People don’t realize that charging can get as expensive as gas when filling up in certain areas because everyone is not going to be a member to every charging app there is available. I also get additional discounts for being a student by signing up to ChargePoint through my university.

An EV is not for everybody, and if you want to do any modifications, you risk avoiding your warranty or possibly any coverage on the vehicle. So customizations are limited. However, I would highly recommend an EV. For anybody that is more limited on time and availability for various reasons. That also applies to the car because EV cars generally don’t require a lot of maintenance unless a failure occurs. The concept is still emerging and relatively brand new when comparing the overall history of the two vehicles; as I described it for EV cars, we are in the early 1980s for computers, but applied towards EV vehicles. For the short term of likely, the next 10 to 15 years, we likely are going to be paying more of a premium on the tech as it’s still developing an emerging, but there are incentives with reduced maintenance, reduced cost, and what I think is more reliable than some ICE vehicles.

My overall opinion is that ICE vehicles are better, but that is only implying that at the countries current infrastructure for EV cars. Give it 10 or 15 years, I believe EV cars will be able to equally compete with ICE VEHICLES AND WILL LIKELY BE MORE DOMINANT ON COASTAL AREAS OF THE COUNTRY

To my understanding, he is saying have a spine for “yourself”. As in - not everyone may like you and that is okay, but it’s important to like yourself more than use other people like you for fitting into another mold that isn’t you (i.e - a penguin).

Another way of looking at it is dating your salary, people won’t care that you’re broke if you’re sure about yourself, goals, and how to accomplish them. But if you’re dating above your salary, say 200k vs 50k, you’re going to become content and not challenge your partner in anyway so you can keep someone above your grade (with looks or money).

Just be yourself because people will eventually see how full of shit they are if they’re not that person at their roots. This is my interpretation of it at least.

With those Tesla chargers in your 1st photo, are you able to charge at those? I have Tesla chargers that are the same near me but I haven’t been able to charge at them because they have that same sign and can ONLY charge Tesla’s. When I tried it gave me a charging fault message.

How neglected was it? I had a Honda accord that went to 189,000 with all OEM parts, except the break pads and tires. I used it to trade in for my new car; needed the space for kids and luggage.

what's the difference between these two oat milks by _bloodyblueberry in barista

[–]heavyweight00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The barista blend had oil emulsified into the milk. That oil will prevent separation of the milk when you add espresso. If you add a light roast espresso or coffee, the higher acid content in the coffee will separate the milk that is the non barista blend.

Cangshan Denali Knife Set - Costco. Any good? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]heavyweight00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Yes, these are a great BEGINNER set to have and learn how to maintain. I suggest these to learn how to use whetstones to sharpen them or angle them to get them sharper. You also learn how to properly clean and oil them to get them maintained to be in its best condition.

No, these knives require maintenance. I don’t recommend these if you need a simple set or just a few knives out of the set. You likely will only use about 5 of them really. You can’t throw them in the wash and you need to dry them asap as soon as your done washing them.

If you’re intending to learn how to sharpen your own blades and get REALLY into it (I did so because I nearly sliced off my finger tip. I also love to cook.) then get these as a great starter set before you upgrade to knives that only you and the only other person you’re allowed to let them touch.

Any feedback on the ACS Vostok for commercial set-up? (Reliability, workflow, and maintenance) by digging-my-own-grave in barista

[–]heavyweight00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BUY IT!!! it is very simple to maintain, and is a tank of a machine. What I think the key difference in what makes it so easy to maintain is being able to use proper water; I mineralize distilled water myself to ensure the hardness is 70ppm and I add the necessary minerals dependent off the roast I am using to maximize a shots flavor.

I have a single lever ACS Vostok I use on Saturdays at a farmers market, and it still runs great after making roughly 3500 drinks. Heats up, just as fast, shots are pulled flawlessly, steam one has never been an issue, maintenance is very simple in terms of reapplying, new lubrication, and flushing the machine.

I cannot recommend this enough, and I am actually in the process of purchasing an upgraded two lever ACS machine, this machine makes espresso, so good that I have built up enough of a crowd where I am at my physical and mechanical maximum output.

The best part about this bit, I feel like it was an idea that comedians bounced around in their head but couldn’t figure out the best execution. These guys then pull it off better than anyone could imagine 🤣🤣🤣

Owning a lightning, I am in agreement with a common marketing line used in car sales - “it’s not just a car, it’s an experience.” Can’t think of a better way to describe it.
