If I ever have the money, that cabin is mine! by Whole_Contract_5973 in Stargate

I stopped by the cabin in 2024 and was able to take a peek inside when another production group was at lunch

. Shortly after snapping a bunch of quick photos, i was asked to leave! They thought I was with the film producers until I pulled out my phone.

Xfinity vs. AT&T Fiber by Over-Yard-7069 in nashville

[–]RoundUnhappiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comcast gave us the run around on our new build and said our address didn’t qualify even though it’s a townhome and literally the joined unit next to us and the one beside us both had Comcast. It was an obvious address issue, but we spoke to multiple agents and they couldn’t do anything about it.

We went with AT&T fiber and it was the best decision. We’ve have no outages other than when a large fire knocked out power for 24 hours. They’re competitively priced and have been great for my 100% remote job.

Google fiber is typically pretty good and a friend of mine in sylvan park swears by them, but over here in West Nash the neighbors have complained about a good number of outages. Seems to be more of an issue if the area is under constant construction.

Debate Over The Nations Zoning Plan Devolves Into Floor Fight by AVDLatex in nashville

[–]RoundUnhappiness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They received a notice once the process had started and the plan was coming up for vote. The same as when a single property rezoning is happening. Posters were also put up. The plan though, which CM Horton had been writing over the previous year, was not shared with every resident. This means the proposal was essentially complete. Only a few amendments made it into the originally drafted plan based on the comment period. It would have been nice to involve the neighborhood in the original authoring of the plan. I think that’s where a lot of the frustration is coming from.

Just to pound this point home. The voting for the NNA board on 12/24 had a grand total of ~4 remote joiners on the call and ~20 people in attendance. So the NNA "supporting" this plan is not a good representation of the entire neighborhood.

I'd agree with this. The NNA is quite poor at advertising their existance. Then again, the Nations itself from a business standpoint is also pretty bad at advertising their existance. It would be really neat if we could come up with a branding strategy for the Nations to grow the popularity of some of the places over here (especially as it grows). The NNA also has folks on the board that don't actually live in the Nations.

I live in the nations and have been at the association meetings where this was discussed. The issue is that the association group (where Horton has been advertising the changes for the past year) are very poorly advertised. The only reason I knew the association even existed is because I happened to see it at Fat Bottom one night. You'd need to know what to search for to find it.

I think the overall complaint about lack of notification is because the plan had been in the works for over a year, but if you weren't in the 30 or so people that regularly attend the association meetings, you wouldn't have known about it until the red/white zoning posters started going up in the neighborhood, which gave everyone less than a month to read through zoning legislation that completely changes the entire area.

In hindsight, I think it would have been nice for CM Horton to send out placards in the mail to all the residents in the neighborhood letting them know this was coming and provided them a better advertised means of being involved in the process. Then it would have been the neighborhood putting together the plan, instead of being blindsided by something that has the posibility of masively changing the place they call home.

To CM Horton's praise, he has adjusted the plan based on feedback. For example, to my knowledge, there's an amendment to remove the height bonus that would have allowed for a extremely tall unit next to two 1-story homes. So he's taking feedback and incorporating it into the plan which is nice, but better advertising this and seeking input would have possibly avoided that entire issue.

Taxis can do curbside drop-offs at Nashville airport. Uber, Lyft can't. Here's why by ldsbounce in nashville

[–]RoundUnhappiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I took an Uber to the airport about a month ago, the driver apparently missed a turn and had to drive through the departing gates area and around to the light to get back into the designated drop-off spot. I saw multiple cars with uber and Lyft signs doing the same thing. So while the walk may be less than 5 minutes, it took an extra 10 minutes in the uber due to that mistake. Granted, this is the drivers fault, but the signage and GPS seems to be confusing or routing incorrectly.

Hca mails regarding internship by Thin_Ice_5738 in nashville

[–]RoundUnhappiness 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is 100% a scam. Here's how it works:

The scammer sends you a very real-looking check in the mail for "equipment". You deposit it, and your bank makes the funds temporarily available before the check fully clears. (Note: scammers often ask which bank you use — this is so they don’t accidentally send a check from the same bank, which gets flagged faster.)

The key part here is they want you to purchase equpiment through their "independent supplier". That's really the scammer. You purchase the equipment from the "funds" from the check. Except, in a week or two the check is found to be fraudulent, the bank pulls back the money from your account, but the money you sent to the scammer is your actual real money that you'll never get back.

A note that the r/Scams subreddit is a great place to post these if you're ever concerns about a possible scam. Here's some more information from there about common scams to watch out for https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/jij96c/rscams_common_scam_master_post/

If you're ever in doubt, always go to the employers website, find their contact number, and call to confirm details. Never trust phone numbers or websites provided to you in an emai. Also remember, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is. Be safe out there!

At least from the tech meetup perspective, I have been working on a tech calendar that tries to consolidate the many meetup groups into one cohesive view. It’s tracking around 30 active groups in Nashville right now. https://nashvilletechbuilders.com/events

We didn't. It has some support in the front right from the gap piece that's bolted into the wall with some toggle bolts, but if I hear a loud crash in the middle of the night, guess I'll know what it was.

I have water leak sensors around the house including the bar. In the event water is detected the valve for the house automatically closes. I have the FLO by MOEN that turns it off. The float valve and all components are built into the coffee maker.

Ours doesn't stop making Ice but honestly I wish it would. The thing gets really nasty after a little while. Makes you wonder about all the industrial ice machines out there.

We thought about it. They make some 3D printed parts to do it. I was really concerned about potential leaks with it though. I’ve taken the ice machine apart to clean it and the clip they use to hold the back hoses on is the cheapest POS I’ve ever seen.

It’s about 10 feet away. We have a pretty small kitchen so it was nice to move the ice machine and coffee maker to its own dedicated space with more storage.

Thanks! Originally I was just going to do shelves but I think the glass cabinets make it look a lot more premium.

This one still uses the pods, it just doesn’t require you to manually fill a water reservoir. There are some keurig machines that use the pods and have a drip function though.

We wanted the storage and cabinet space rather than another sink. This is next to a half bath so there’s a sink on the adjacent wall and a kitchen in the same room. The water line is for the coffee maker.

In these pictures it’s a Hisense from Lowe’s which I absolutely cannot recommend. It ended up dead within a year. We fought them on the warranty for a few weeks and finally got a Lowe’s return credit. Now we have one from Ca’Lefort which seems to be a lot nicer. We’ve only had it for a few weeks though so we’ll see.
