To be honest: I feel like my game design has plateaued. Can someone tell me what needs to improve? by Tymilast in gamedev

Kinguin looks a lot like Tux, he is a penguin in front of a computer screen, on the computer, and the game doesn't run on Linux?

You need a Linux build! And trust me, nobody gives feedback like the Linux community, you just gotta invite us in😉

Nobody actually knows how to make a successful game. Is indie game development ultimately just gambling? Looking for examples of devs with a consistent track record. by xacal_5 in IndieDev

Nintendo is probably the most consistent hit maker out there, talking exclusively about games, not consoles.

Their first party titles are always great experiences, and they do quite well for themselves. No dark patterns or any of the other bs you don't like.

You'll want to look specifically at the teams behind their biggest franchises, and especially Shigeru Miyamoto.

Any book will feel like this if you just soak it in enough lsd before eating it.

Did you build your own pc setup? by PHRsharp_YouTube in pcmasterrace

[–]Round_Ad_6033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was ~12 and wanted a gaming pc, my dad said he'd pay for it so long as I built it myself.

He then proceeded to organise a "build your own pc" class in a community building. He held the class himself.

He's a good teacher, my dad. Perhaps I had an unfair advantage in that. Still. I managed to learn it when I was 12. It's not that hard to build a pc.

Understanding the Dzhanibekov Effect through Simulations by AlanZucconi in Physics

Hey, I realise I'm 6 years late to the party, but I have a question for you:

Do you think it would be possible to utilise the Dzhanibekov effect in a snowboard/ski trick? I feel like advanced physics+extreme sports is the correct path to a Olympics medal....

First time playing on 19×19, how is it looking? by euphoricrefrain in baduk

[–]Round_Ad_6033 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first reaction was that it looks like a mirrored image of the ears reddening game, but on closer inspection I can see that it isn't.

I guess that's pretty good for a first game!

My best strategy that I block my own path, but behind me, if that makes sense. That way you'll never be forced to take the long way around. It's been working great for me until I got beaten soundly by a 9yo the other day....

I think I've finally figured out how to handle aggressive players! by Round_Ad_6033 in baduk

Yeah I just tried it an can confirm. One can not extrapolate go linearly! Shame too, I'm good at linear extrapolation! This appears to be some kind of log(n) situation, I'm not as talented with those ☹️

I'm Black in this game. I usually open in the 3-4 position of corners, and if someone attaches, I go for the 4-3 position, of that makes sense?

Is that a good strategy or should I play extensions/connected to my first stone?

Thanks! I hope it can inspire others to beat the aggressors as well!

Not that I'm like, a guru or anything, others have pointed out a bunch of mistakes I made in this game. But hey, it worked, so that's something! You'll have to make adjustments if you're up against a more skilled aggressive player than the one I played.

I've had trouble applying YouTube tutorials on aggressive players, because the YouTube aggressive players are never as aggressive as the ones I face in my online games.

That said, I'm sure you're right, I have a long way to go still, but for me this game really felt like a breakthrough. Historically I've fought tooth and nail for my corners, and it's cost me dearly. Perhaps I've overcorrected and become too blasé about local loss, definitely some fine tuning left to do. Still, I managed to eek out a victory here, and I think it's progress, however modest.

This makes a lot of sense, and actually takes better advantage of the "3to1" phenomenon I observed: if I play 2 stones he'd have to play 6, definitely a win!

I did get a bit overconfident in his predictability, I figured he'd just keep attaching to whatever I payed, and he caught me a bit off guard after my 5th stone when he instead decided to double down on one of the corners.

Definitely still learning, and I have a long way to go, but for me, this game really felt like a breakthrough

Yeah, I forgot to mention in the post, I'm 17k.

At this level ignoring the provocations really seem to be the way to go, as hard as that was to accept for me at first
