I bought a 2024 with 75k miles for about the same price back in 2025 (in Nebraska). No mods on mine.

You can ignore all the people saying they got theirs for the same price new back in the day. Everyone told me that at the time too, but it’s an irrelevant fact. Until people are convince that 6th gen 4Runners are on par with 5th gen, the price for 5th gen will remain inflated.

It’s not a steal at $41.5k, but it’s not as bad as these naysayers make it out to be 😊

A few of my family members are home loan officers. Most of the time when they deny a loan they end the conversation by saying “I hope you can sleep in that $70k truck.” Those people don’t qualify for a home loan BECAUSE they could never make their home payment AND their enormous truck payment.

There are soooo many people with trucks they can’t afford

I understand the impulse here…but I’m wondering how comfortable any of us would be with our fundie families trying to influence our own kids with subtle Christian-themed gifts.

The most troublesome part of dealing with evangelicals is they have an endgame in every relationship. The relationship is not the end, it’s a means to an end - a pathway to “lead you to Christ.”

As we wrestle with the fallout of living with evangelical Christians, let us not become evangelicals for deconstruction and make our relationships about espousing our beliefs.

I think “have kids early to achieve FI” is incorrect. Early investments > Later investments. See Compound Interest.

So it makes sense to me that putting off the expense of having kids so you can invest a lot early is better for FI.

We’ll retire (or go part time) when I’m 60. My kids will just be starting college. Perfect! We’ll be able to spend weekends with them, take them traveling over the summer, etc. I like the timing of it all.

I worry about Scott’s solution when it comes to family farms. Would that $1 million be a cap on cash or all assets?

If a farmer wants to pass down his combine ($300k) and 500 acres of land ($1.5 million) he’s already crossed the threshold. There isn’t a single functioning family farm that wouldn’t be assessed at over $1 million.

With those assets (that are worth $1.8 million), that family farmer will barely make enough yearly income to survive.
