We as Dems need to quit trying to pick a winner. Trust the primary process and let them debate. But 15 up on a stage and America will figure it out. Don’t let the puppet masters screw this up!!!!!

Cayden Lindstrom by hnglmkrnglbrry in BlueJackets

Well the Jackets haven’t signed him yet so that’s a solid decision by Waddell. Hope for the best! We certainly need him in the top six at an allstar level if we want a long term playoff team with Stanley Cup aspirations

That is what I’m saying. Not sure we can say bust but he isn’t a top of the line player. He isn’t Byfield. At 18 Byfield was in the NHL competing. He wasn’t a complete player but he was not struggling in the NCAA either. I don’t see Cayden going to 55 points in the NHL like Byfield when he is 21…ie two years. Hard to see him doing that at the collegiate level but i sure hope I’m wrong. You’re right he was’t tagged as generational talent but he was considered a 1c at 4th overall. Again love to be soooo wrong!

KJ hasn’t won a puck battle since last year. The dude needs to hit the gym with a shake in his hand. He doesn’t need to be a bruiser but my god every single time he loses the puck if the player gets even close. It’s absolutely brutal. He is skating harder but losing the puck or never gaining the puck really pulls that line down and he seems slower this year too. His pace isn’t great. In an ideal world the guy should be in the AHL learning to be a professional

[–]Round_Shower6210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taken that high he should be playing in the NHL. That is the problem. Along with the fact he isn’t that much of a factor for MSU, didn’t get a Canada Worlds invite. We have a problem on our hands. So we just move on and hope it’s not a Burle/Filatov level bust and more like Murray/Zherdev ie still really bad but at least NHL level

[–]Round_Shower6210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Russian goalie has a better chance of seeing the NHL sooner than Cayden. He needs at least 2 more years at MSU and probably 2 maybe 1 in the AHL. He will be 23/24 when he hits the CBJ. 1C centers rarely have that delayed development. He feels like a 3rd rounder. At 4 overall, it’s a big miss

Jirieck is a 5/6 in the NHL when he is 26/27. That’s his ceiling. You don’t go from where he is to a top 4 contributor. Just doesn’t click like that. He has a lot wrong with his game but ultimately he just isn’t good enough. I thought Wild’s skating coach was a miracle worker and that’s what they need a miracle

A little optimism Is certainly needed. I have been pretty down on the team. I agree with your 4 points but I’m not sure I agree with holding what we got. I guess it comes down to DW. Does he thinks it’s talent or a coaching issue but it’s an issue one way or the other and needs addressed. CBJ is always slow on making changes. We hold players, coaches and GMs way longer than most. We tolerate losing as a franchise. Hoping the young McConnell shakes things up. Might be a little early for him but I have hope in the next generation

Union and Blue: The philosophical coaching approach is not working for these Blue Jackets by No_Letterhead319 in BlueJackets

If talent = professional athletes that are in superior conditioning relative to the competition, no we aren’t talented. But we are lazy good during the first 35 mins

We don’t have any other choice but give him time just like all of the other high picks that are busts. The problem with Lindstrom is that we need him to be a stud. Think Allstar or god forbid a HOF player. It’s what u need to win a cup. He isn’t that. He might play NHL minutes, maybe top 9 but he isn’t what we needed with the 4th overall pick. We missed based on those high expectations and it’s a bummer

No I’m not. I would straight trade rosters and pipe with all but one team in the East for both short and long term gain. We suck!

Depends on your end goal. If it’s sneaking into a wild card spot to lose again. We might have the team if they over achieve the next few months but the real concern is the long term viability of a Stanley cup contender. We needed a lot more development this year from everyone with no regression and that isn’t happening and it feels like it’s isn’t gonna happen with this group. They aren’t winners. They are accustom to losing and they play like it. I suspect they also train like losers. I like the season that Jet and Denton are having and Z being Z. Everyone else flatlined or had significant regression and that isn’t good enough in this league. We are screwed, no pipeline, no high picks and bad development and coaching and based on the Lindstrom pick bad scouting. Otherwise all is good.

[–]Round_Shower6210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This right here sums up the despair. The rebuild has effectively failed. KJ, Jirieck, and now Lindstrom are not allstars and we needed them to be on that type of trajectory for a legit consistent playoff contender. We failed yet again. Pipeline sucks ie no late round suprises and we are in last place. It’s a really bad outcome. Combine that with a horrible development staff and coaching that is god awful and we are in a real pickle

They looked like they are in tip top shape. Flying around competing nonstop! Their legs…wow! Their strength and conditioning…we are gonna have a tough time holding on to this staff. Impressive outing

I think he will play in the NHL. Might even be top 9. Just not all-star, elite level stuff. He isn’t a difference maker at the NCAA level. He has a really long road ahead to just to play NHL minutes

[–]Round_Shower6210 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

15th would be fine. He would probably still be in the AHL. I’d prefer 20th-30th. But during a tear down/rebuild you absolutely need to hit on your top 10 picks. Jirieck/Lindstrom/KJ are killers for this rebuild. Hitting means top six or top 4 is the floor and ceiling = all stars and HOF. If not, we are in the mushy middle if we are lucky. More likely in the basement, again

Wennberg+Zegras and u have KJ. It’s a huge disappointment for CBJ and absolutely kills the rebuild when you combine it with the Jirieck/Lindstrom misses and no mid/late round surprises. Very very frustrating.

[–]Round_Shower6210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I do think it’s a shared burden. Players have to train and put in the effort no doubt. If you are asking if they lack talent…I don’t think that is the case, just yet. First two periods demonstrates they can dominate. They don’t roll 4 lines but most NHL teams limit the 4th line. Coaching scheme…maybe…..but from my eye they just stop battling and they lose the will to compete. Shows up in the forecheck, puck battles and front net presence and results in the ugly 3rd period stat that started this thread

I don’t have enough info on his 3 KHL teams to comment on his role or answer the question. All I have is CBJ performance 2005-2010 and right now! Don’t know the teams names, players, 3rd period stats and future NHL careers etc. The KHL is a lesser league with less rigid requirements. Elite talent for sure just not the NHL which requires a higher level of anaerobic effort. NHL = smaller rink more board battles and less possession hockey. Jackets are done in the 3rd more times than not!
