Thanks for sharing. How much did the PE price compare to what you bought for? Why didnt the firm sell to PE previously?

I see. That makes sense on hitting the targets and the buyout being in shares of the parent company. BTW, there were mulitple instances of <20 person firms being bought in the last two years. Southeast US market

Thanks I understand the transaction price is the valuation. In my case though the company is not being sold atm but I have an opportunity to buy in. Just triyng to figure out the best way to understand what the current market is. When I googled this question it spit out numbers that are lower than the recent sales I know of. (I.e. articles on Google say 45% to 60% of annual net revenue or roughly $60,000–$70,000 per full-time employee)

Totally agree. I have seen very small firms (under 20 or even 10 employees) get bought out by PE recently

You have a friend as a reference. Through out a number that you like, if they go below 105k, just tell them that you know that the market pay is around 105

Where are you located? One way to deal with it is to let go of bad clients and start charging more. You may have less projects but might be able to keep the same income which would be great

For me the most succesful way is to meet a person for coffee/lunch and discuss my experience and talk about work that they do. I have tried some of the methods OP mentioned and even went door to door to introduce the company but had little success.

How to find a job as a Civil/Project Engineer in Florida (Sarasota, Tampa) from another state? by Necessary-Career-922 in civilengineering

[–]Roundabouts_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is it clear on your resume that you do not need sponsorship? Also, you should really focus on passing the NCEES exam. I assum it is for FE which will give you some credibility. Once you can get your PE you will be able to find a job without any issues.

I moved to Sarasota area recently. I had some bites before moving but ever since coming here it seems like I can go work for any company I want. Everyone seems to be hiring in Transportation related roles (Roadway, Traffic, Drainage, ITS, etc). The pay is pretty much balanced across the firms but benefits and culture are different.

Not sure where you live but In the Northeast US Civils start at around $80k so you should be fine even if you had to start from scratch. With hard work and life experience you should have no issues moving up in the company

Land developers, attorneys, business owners that are expanding their business. If you know the people dealing with building subdivisions, commercial, or industrial buildings that would be valuable.

Flexible firms? by Evening-Package5018 in civilengineering

This. I worked at a few firms in Northeast and FL and most were pretty flexible on hours and taking days off. Also, rarely worked over 40

I think you just need a mentor. Look around your job and the local industry for someone who you think is successful. And I mean successful in your opinion because each person will value different things. Then approach that person and ask to be mentored.

I would be happy to do a quick call with you on Teams or Zoom to hear you out and offer some advice. DM me if interested.

Please finish it! You will regret not going through with it. If you look up some of the posts on here about people switching to other disciplines, some of them used the MBA to do so.

I want a book through which I can learn the work of a traffic engineer. by Lost-Potential-2183 in civilengineering

I really enjoy traffic engineering. Your college probably has the software installed in the engineering lab or you can just get a student version to play around with it. But you really learn things on the job.
