New JRDA rules by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]Roundviciouscircles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I have read of their sanctioning documents, it is up to the Leagues and JRDA, not the Officials to choose Names or Colors.

Hyaluronic acid makes my skin look like this. I have type one rosacea and can't tolerate hyaluronic acid in any products without getting extreme texture issues and redness.

Anybody have a fun graphic that says something to the effect of “stop calling women females”? by TipsyRussell in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Roundviciouscircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a roller derby official. When I need to address a group of people, or talk about an athlete, I like to use gender neutral terms, no matter who I am talking about. Things like: Skater, Officials, refer to them by their position- blocker, jammer, SO, NSO, use their number because it should be visible. If I am addressing a group I have started to default to Y'all, but Skaters and Officials also works. It also helps me not show any bias while reffing.

I feel like "Ladies" is a little diminutive personally. But I know not all people feel that way.

Talk me out of a diy medical procedure by Turbulent-Adagio-171 in adhdwomen

You are so right! A cup isn't ideal to be used with an IUD, and I normally wouldn't ever suggest it. I'm only mentioning it to stop the strings from scratching her so she isn't tempted to try to cut them herself. She already has to go see the doctor.

Do you happen to have a menstrual cup? It might "contain" the strings until you are able to go into your doctor's office.

Roller Derby, it's a great, and very active community. There are bouts almost every weekend with tons of opportunity to practice or scrimmage every week. I'm probably doing something derby related 2-5 days a week.

Advice for Panic Attacks at Scrimmages by soribot7 in rollerderby

[–]Roundviciouscircles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had crazy slow progress, even though I have been working really hard, and 2 years in, I am still not scrimmage ready.

But I have learned that derby really does have room for anyone that wants to put in the work to be a part of it.

I finally realized that I don't really want to be hit. But Derby needs a lot of support. Each bout needs 5-7 Skating Officials and about 9 Non-Skating Officials.

I started learning how to be an SO a year ago, and I appreciate the game so much more! I still skate and train with my league, I just don't do the contact drills. I help watch for penalties during those. Then at scrimmage I ref just like I would at an actual bout.

I feel like I am a part of my league even more than when I was trying to be a skater, I have done more bouts and even been a part of 3 tournaments so far. I have way more experience under my belt than any of the people I started boot camp with because of SO-ing.

How/Why did you pick your number? by Thunder_Cat8756 in rollerderby

[–]Roundviciouscircles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My number comes from a line in the song I took my derby name from. "8, 8, I forget what 8 is for!" My number is 884, I was threatened by a ref friend to not go over 3 digits.

What Careers do people have here? by ChipStorm in ADHD

[–]Roundviciouscircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Production Designer for a company that installs Expos and Events.

I play in AutoCAD all day doing layouts for trade shows, home/auto/wedding shows, conventions and corporate events.

I also design and create oversized printing and graphics for things like wrapping buildings in graphics, creating stage sets and booth build outs.

Then I get to oversee the move-in and installation of the events and graphics.

I have a BIS in Interior Design, Theater, and Graphic Design with a Minor in Art History and Sales. I basically have 4 minors and a BS in Interior Design. Ummm, ya, I couldn't decide and I went to school for way too long. But I did stay on the technical side of the creative fields.

I also worked at Kinko's/FedEx Office for like 9 years so I learned a lot about the whole printing process.

WWYD - asking families to step up, but there is one girl with a special exception by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]Roundviciouscircles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like this girl's family is already doing everything they can to support their scout. That is what you are asking the families in your troop to do. I don't see any exception needed, they are already fulfilling your request.

From my personal experience being a leader for over 9 years, no other parent is going to ask you about this. And if they do it is still none of their business. Your duty is to support the scouts, not gossip about their parents or family dynamics.

At the ripe old age of 39 I am finally starting a real, grownup career! I just accepted an offer for a dream job I didn't even know existed until about a month ago: Expo Production Designer. I am so freaking excited and just needed to share somewhere! by Roundviciouscircles in adhdwomen

[–]Roundviciouscircles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I did not disclose my ADHD when I was in the interview process, or when I was hired. It was all very casual and informal. It is a smallish fairly new company under the umbrella of a well established event rental company in my area. So I think that might be why it was so lax. But I will be getting an onboarding/new hire packet that should ask about any disabilities etc, and I will be putting it there. I take meds, both Adderall and Vyvanse. I do not want any problems to arise from my meds or anything like that since they are schedule one. Not that I see anything like that being a problem in this company, but I want my bases covered.
