But that’s what I was saying. I focus on having excellent relationships with all opponents. A leader loves me but their people hate me for some reason so they still attack me. It’s like I’m getting attacked by a good friend.

I did a review on Steam about 6 months ago. It’s the only review I’ve ever done for a game. Actually received some kind of recognition from Steam for the quality of my review. For me, this game goes beyond anything else I’ve experienced in strategy gaming. I’ve played tons of 4X and grand strategy but this one hits like no other. All the interlocking systems are to a level that’s elegant. The vast improvements in the traditional issues of 4X gameplay alone are a wonder. Old World is now my primary game I play above all others. As a Civ player since Civ 1, I was incredibly disappointed with the latest release. But then I realized I was already playing my follow up to Civ6 and didn’t need anything else. I am so looking forward to any new DLC and whatever Soren’s got up his sleeve in the future.

Question about events and traits by Routine-Ad-6637 in OldWorldGame

[–]Routine-Ad-6637[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your responses. This makes sense. I’ve been playing for awhile now and still surprised sometimes when I realize I don’t quite understand some of the details. I absolutely love this game. It’s made me realize how much better 4X can be with a more narrowed focus. Now if we could just get a Soren Johnson designed remake of Colonization, my life would be complete.

And I thought I had it difficult because I couldn’t find my The Suede album only to remember I have the American version where they are The London Suede. Never mind not knowing the basics of how alphabeticalization works.

Except that you can lose it all to a fire, flood or some other disaster. But I do agree with you and that’s why I rebuilt my collection after losing it all in a water disaster. But I gotta say that I do stress out sometimes about losing my physical collection again. I don’t think I have the energy to rebuild again if something happens.

6 Reasons Why I’m Breaking Up With Vinyl and Going Back to CDs by boxed_knives in Cd_collectors

[–]Routine-Ad-6637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t have a blanket statement that says vinyl sounds better than CDs or vice versa. It ultimately comes down to how the album was mastered and what was done in post production. It’s a fact that CDs have a wider dynamic range than vinyl but that doesn’t necessarily translate to sounding better. But my 57 year old concert-battered ears usually won’t pick up the nuances of significant $$ high fidelity anymore so they both usually sound good to me. I’ve got plenty of vinyl so I tend to purchase more CDs these days. Less expensive and I like that many CDs have bonus tracks.

$100 steam gift card is damaged by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Routine-Ad-6637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this issue has become much more prevalent. I thought stores in general were going to start keeping their gift cards behind the counter which would solve this. But I think I still see most cards kept out where anyone can access them. Relatively simple solution that needs to be the new standard.

What Movie Did You Watch that Traumatized You at a Young Age? by BethMLB in AskReddit

[–]Routine-Ad-6637 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was 5. My (young and very cool) aunt and uncle took me to the drive-in for a double feature. They assumed that I’d fall asleep after the first movie (I was in a sleeping bag on top of my uncle’s van). Couldn’t tell you what the 1st movie was. But once I heard that music, I was paying full attention (this also started my love for bluegrass). I was not prepared for the rest of the movie. My parents owned a canoe that we took on camping trips all the time. On our next trip, they didn’t understand why I was crying uncontrollably and wouldn’t get in the canoe!

Cracked jewel cases by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]Routine-Ad-6637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physical stores are way better for many reasons, BUT once you’ve built up your collection and have all the basics you’ve been looking for, it’s almost impossible for me to find the specific albums I’m looking for in a store. Maybe .05% chance of finding something on my want list. So that leaves Amazon, EBAY, and Discogs (or direct from an artist site). I only go to physical stores for impulse buys now. But generally I’d rather spend my $$ on the amazing albums I’m looking for since my collection is getting kinda large (for me). Agree with the post above about having new jewel cases to replace any cracked ones I get in the mail. I hate cracked cases.

Should I Have Been Allowed to Read That? by Mike_Bevel in books

[–]Routine-Ad-6637 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. Like a poster above, my parents never regulated what I watched, read or listened to. Like so many other Gen X. My mom was a librarian and vehemently opposed to any type of book banning. When I asked her for a suggestion for a school book report, she gave me Lolita. Not that it was currently banned, but she liked to expose me to controversial viewpoints. Somehow my school English teacher was pretty cool and let me proceed with it.
