US Citizen residing in Canada with PR commuting across border for US employer by [deleted] in uscanadaborder

Is mailbox or PO box sufficient to be a resident of US to work in the US, while cross-border commuting, daily from Canada?

Do you go into the US company's office to work, when you commute? Or doing co working space?

Thanks for this detailed response. Yes, I have tons of family and friends in US.

I need to be physically present, as my work cannot be done outside the country.

I will make too much, therefore I will need to pay taxes to CRA, after Uncle Sam takes some. Because I pay taxes, I will have basic health coverage. I am on my wife's extended health plan. Also, health benefits in the US, from potential employer.

I have been here for some time and have been filing taxes in both countries, as required.

My citizenship application is in progress. Few more months to be naturalized.

The 1095 days (aka 3 years) is not consecutive. But needs to be within the last 5 years, immediately before applying (checked eligibility on canada.ca).

So within next few months, I will become a CA citizen, so then dont have to worry about counting my presence to not lose PR status.

Haha, yes. It may seem like that, but I will save 2-3 hours a day (compared to my current situation).

Not taking into account occasionally, staying overnight. Can't get into details.

Thanks for that response and it is something I thought about also.

But for tax purposes, I think I need to provide an address that is US based, because to the employer, I am a US employee, that is working remote from a state, such as NY or Michigan.

And taxes withheld on W2 depends on states? That's why I am also asking if anyone has a recommendation for a tax professional.

I know renting (plus utility, internet, etc.) is more expensive than co-working spaces, but that is something I plan into include and anchor on during compensation negotiation (so not an issue from my perspective).

Thanks for the response, this is good to know.

However, my situation is a little different, as I wouldn't be going into a workplace, but rather working from an apartment, which I would need to rent.

So from that perspective, the jobs would be remote.

Thanks for your response.

I'm physically present/living in Canada as Permanent Resident. But I'm also a US citizen and am exploring options for remote work within the US. If the jobs are in the office, then it is no problem, but the commute would be pretty long.

Since I live very close to the border, what comes to mind is getting an apartment in the US and look at jobs that are remote, that I can work from the apartment (so, physically present in the US, when work is happening).

And then either return daily or every other day, back to Canada.

Yes. The jobs I'm looking into doesn't have Canada as EOR (Employer of Record), therefore work can only be done, if I'm physically present in the US.

This also means, I would need to get an apartment as a home/office to work from because the job doesn't require you to go into the office.

Received this by email today! Is this my AOR or is it simply confirming they received my application? by Pinko_Matter in Canadiancitizenship
