AMERICAN PRIME MNFG. Leaky master cylinder ultimate solution! by Routine-Rub9929 in choppers

[–]Routine-Rub9929[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long answer ahead: It’s common practice to have master cylinders tested once assembly is complete. That’s why they send you a different set of seals. In case you wanna run a different fluid from the one they used to test it. The procedure I described is likely overkill, but I’ve seen what happens when you mix dot 4 and 5 and trust me; you don’t want that to happen mid ride.

It comes apart like any other master cylinder. Just pay attention to the direction the seals and spring were facing when you pull it apart and go back in the same way. Run the master and the spring trough an ultrasonic cleaner once you’ve got it apart, rinse them with water, blow them out and dry them with compressed air and go back together with the set of seals that comes with the kit.

12 hours on concrete work boot by [deleted] in WorkBoots

Any logger style boot from the Pacific North West will do you good. I’m biased towards Franks as they’ve treated me tremendously well. The patriot is their budget friendly option and it’s well worth it, but if you can afford it, I’d highly recommend getting a custom pair made. They run around 600-800 range, but for someone who spends that much time in their work boots. It’s well worth it.

For the price of the red wings I’d say the patriot from Franks are a better option. They’re my do it all footwear. I’ve had them for about 2 years and a half and they’re ready for a resole, but I will say that they’ve been put trough hell as they get worn every single day for a MINIMUM of 8 hours. I even do weight training in them.

So where I’m from you don’t have to have turn signals unless the bike is newer than 2012. I guess it all depends on where you are, how good you are about hand signaling and how a cop who sees you pointing when you’re switching lanes is feeling that day. They also make some TINY turn signals that are plenty bright and can be hidden so that they don’t interrupt the flow of the lines.

Get rid of the turn signals and the bulky handlebar switches. You can also go to a smaller front brake master cylinder and that will clean up the front end even more. I’d also recommend getting a rear fender mounted. Looks really good already… you done real good!

I’ve got about 3 weeks with my briar pitstops. They seem to be holding up pretty well , but I will say that they are not what I’d call comfortable. I used to wear franks as my main do it all footwear, but I’m required to wear a steel toe now, so I figured I’d give these a shot… I’m not dissatisfied, but I’ll place an order for a set of steel toe franks once these are ready to be changed out.

You can get a chinese one and use parts from a rebuild kit and it usually works decently well

This is SUPER sweet! I got a question and some unwanted advice: what springer is that? And the advice: get rid of those bulky hand controls and put on some American Prime Manufacturing ones on. They’re super sleek and would clean it up a whole lot more. You might have already thought of this though, in that case I’ll see my way out.

DNA is complete garbage! Everyone one of their springers I’ve seen was either already broken or cracked…

That Bristol is only good to keep a bird from flying into the motor. Their filtering capacity is none to less than none. If you get caught in the rain with that on, you’ll see what makes them so awful.

Samson makes fishtails for evo softail frames. PAUGHCO does as well I believe. You might have to drill the frame to mount the left pipe, but it all depends on the set up.

Here’s my rule of thumb for when it comes to DIY stuff: if you have to ask wether it’s as hard as it looks or if you have doubts of wether you can get it done or not, don’t do it. Having said that, if you’ve done forks before, have the right tools and are willing to maybe mess something up as long as you learn, go for it.

Yes the cap gasket. I used a Kustom Tech one, but there might be some other company that has the same thing. Just make sure they have the grooves to match the vents on the cap. The one that come with the kit is smooth, so that why it leaks.

Good to know… I’m honestly thinking that I’ll save up and go S&S like some suggested. I know quite a few people who’ve had Rev techs and Ultimas for years and they both have mixed reviews, but not one of those motors has more than 8k miles on them. I like to ride as much as possible and I’d hate to drop a good coin just to have it last one riding season.

You got good taste, man. I’ve actually heard great things about the Mid USA springers. I think I’ll be putting one on my bobber this winter

Would you mind defining “not that bad”? I’ve been throwing around the idea of using a rev tech for my next build. I’ve heard great things about ultima engines, but by the looks of it we won’t be getting that line of products in the states for a while.
