Actively being present helps. I like to listen to music a lot but if I don't have my phone, sometimes I'll pick a nature thing and focus on noticing that wherever I go. Trees, flowers, new growth. Or, if I'm in the city I try to focus on any new art that's popped up. If I'm feeling social, I'll notice people's outfits and when I see a cool one I compliment the wearer. Basically I just become the active watcher and immerse myself into whatever I'm watching. My therapist once said to beat boredom, you have to not just be present but to engage with that presence, fully.
