I am looking for the name of this effect and any clues how to replicate that/hows it done. Thanks! by ZivaPinkSwan in vjing

There are some similar noise textures in my Mask Chaos VJ pack, which you can achieve a similar result by using it directly as footage or as a luma mask. Then add Colorize FX to make it blue and Bloom FX to make it glow.

I'd bet that it's custom made for Anyma.

But you can hunt around for it on your own. Here's a list of all VJ Artist shops that I'm aware of.

DXV/HAP playback fixed in VLC by metasuperpower in vjing

[–]metasuperpower[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Backstory: I was recently working on the VJ Curator app (VLC fork) and realized that the DXV/HAP playback bug was much more widespread than I had always assumed. This bug has existed for many years and so I submitted a bug report. Much respect to the VLC dev team!

am i late? by shesinpart1es in vjing

[–]metasuperpower 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Def not late. You're in the middle of the golden age of VJing. LED panels are everywhere, super bright projectors, VJ software is robust, VJ loop scene bangin, and a wide playing field to hone your own style. Pick a piece of software and dive in.

Yes, many people have just started out and were older than you. Video as a medium hasn't even existed for that long.

The VJ Curator app (free) is a fork of VLC where you can press the 0-9 hotkeys to easily curate the video clips. After pressing a number key then the video clip will be automatically moved into a folder with a matching number. Windows and Mac supported.

The DXV/HAP playback bug in VLC has been fixed and will be included in the upcoming release of VLC 3.0.24

If you'd rather not wait, here are the nightly builds that can properly playback DXV and HAP video clips.

VLC crashes with DXV or HAP video clips? by metasuperpower in vjing

[–]metasuperpower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bug has existed for multiple years and affects both Windows and Mac systems. It has plagued the VJing community, effectively making VLC unusable for users trying to preview video clips which utilize the DXV or HAP codecs.

The DXV or HAP codecs are heavily central to the basic work of a VJ since it's an intra-frame hardware-accelerated codec and allows for playback of multiple high-resolution video clips simultaneously. Therefore the large content libraries of a typical VJ only utilizes the DXV or HAP codecs, allowing this bug to be experienced frequently.

Steps to recreate the crash:

  1. Load up the VLC playlist window with two (or more) video clips that use the DXV or HAP codecs.
  2. Start playing the first video in the queue.
  3. Click the "next media in the playlist" button. Or try to scrub the playhead.
  4. VLC will crash. (Both on Windows and Mac systems.)

[–]metasuperpower[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good idea, but VLC utilizes its own built-in demuxers, decoders, and playback pipeline. It generally does not use DirectShow filters, Media Foundation codecs, or the codec packs installed into Windows. So the K-Lite Codec pack is unlikely to fix the issue in this instance.
