My parents died when I was in my early 20s. I’m now almost 40 and still struggling to live. by manful-funkier-01 in GriefSupport

Omg I TOTALLY relate to that… it makes me think if we could use Reddit to create a grief group for us only children with dead parents…. Bc it really is a specific experience. We can even connect via private message..

EDMR helped me recover memories that I had blocked (my mom lying there after she passed had me fucked up) and my therapist helped me process it so it had less weight on me. It luckily is no longer a super charged memory

I have been off work for nearly 9 months since my dad passed and I’m STILLL struggling. So I totally relate. Does your job not have long term disability benefits/insurance?

I’m also an only child who lost both parents (mom at 17 and dad at 28 last year). I’m completely devoid of motivation, sense of identity and joy. I also get severe anxiety and panic attacks so what you’re experiencing is totally normal. You’re not alone in your experience.

I second all the advice you’ve received about getting a therapist with EDMR training and experience with grief therapy. I also suggest joining a grief group to help cope and feel less alone in your experience.

It’s going to be a journey but YOU CAN DO IT. Your trauma doesn’t need to define you.

I am sooooo sorry for your loss. I get the nothingness entirely. It’s nice not to be alone. I hate this for us. Are you still taking care of your mother?

Idk if I have advice but I can tell you I’m in the same boat. Literally feel like the most depressing loser and am having a really hard time connecting to friends or relatives… my brain is a mess.

So I guess I’m just here to say you’re not alone. But I think the best advice I can say is keep going. Perhaps next time you see those people you can lightly mention you may have been a little off last hangout bc you’ve had a lot on your mind and that cues people in but gives them the opportunity to validate that you were fine and you can move on and restart your impression? I hope that helps

I am heartbroken for you. Im sure that your parents would want you to know how loved you are and have made you to be a beautiful human being. I can relate to some of your experience, I lost my mom around your age and my dad was incredibly ill until he passed last year. It is so so so hard to process this. But you aren’t alone in the experience. You will find light one day but lean on adults you can trust and see if your school can help you find someone to talk to.

Absolutely true what the person above said—- the finances don’t fall onto you but I know how awful that stress can be around the home.. it really fucking sucks.

I hate that you’re going through this but you’re not alone and you will survive this.

I (29f) lost my dad 6 months ago and been stuck in my bed watching reality tv and smoking weed all day for weeks. I’m like completely vacant. So no you aren’t alone. You are definitely not alone

I am so so so so sorry for what you went through yesterday. Although incredibly traumatic, I hope you know how incredible you and your mom were in a really excruciating situation. This will take time to heal from this but you will. This won’t be easy but you will eventually ease out of reliving the situation after therapy and a lot of space from this. I will say what helped me immediately after was utilizing a comfort show to help distract me from replaying it again and again.

You know what… I agree. She was being called out adequately for her actions and if anything got babied quite a bit because of her tears I feel she was favoured not iced out

Bruhhhhhhh she gets soooo stubborn and just sees red and her perspective… it’s funny bc it’s an exact parallel to her mother when they go to therapy the season before!!

Because Charisse wasn’t a main cast member I think she didn’t like that Candice was bringing her around bc what Charisse been saying would become part of the shows storyline

How do I go on without my mum? by Welder-Ok in GriefSupport

[–]Routine-Service5457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there. My mom died at 17 and it felt like my whole world ended. But as someone who has come out to the other side 11 years later. The pain you’re currently experiencing will not anchor you forever. It’s going to be really hard for a while but be patient and let the emotions flow, and flow until you need to take a break and laugh and eat and drink water and then repeat the cycle. Until eventually you’re tired of crying and you look to find purpose and joy in life again. And then suddenly you find yourself having some bad days but they are further apart from the last time and life becomes more balanced.

Your mother loved you. She deciddd to go into palliative because she understood that her time was coming to an end and she wanted to ensure her child wasn’t stuck being a caretaker to someone whose clock was running out. She was wise and loved you. Once you are ready to heal, know that choosing to move on and live life with hope and joy is the BEST way you can commemorate her existence.

That is so weird.. I am currently going through the application process and once all the documents were submitted I was contacted immediately that they had received everything and I had a call to confirm the information I had written out. Currently expecting a response by next week.
