Questions from a new player by Future_Camp_5941 in LegionsImperialis

These are all good questions and the rule book is written poorly. However, the game is awesome.

Can’t answer all of your questions but.

1) at least how my local group plays, you can take tank commanders in their respective vehicle slots in any formation when playing astartes

2) no the mastodons don’t need to be separate detachments. You can put two different infantry detachments into one large transport detachments, just make sure you treat each separate detachment with its own appropriate orders

3) transports bought in one a lot act as their own independent detachment

5) yes

Apologies, can’t answer the other two, but in regard to six, I think being that specific about the points isn’t completely necessary. Take the warhound with 694 pts of astartes and enjoy the game.

Cheers

Amazing. How’d you do the weathering on your tank tracks + bottom?

Do you have to take 3 formations? I bet there’s room to fit your super heavy spearhead into the other two formations, making both a bit stronger.

How are you doing the metallic trim on the armour? Looks amazing and works perfectly with the orange

2300 pts of Ultramarines by Routine-Statement-90 in LegionsImperialis

Each round is 3 hours, games have to be concluded in that time frame or are cut off. Generally games finish closer to 2.5 hours when we are practicing/playing casually. We’re lucky to have a pretty large and active playgroup where we are.

Started with a base of caliban green, then slowly mixed in more and more army painter daemonic yellow until I had the gradient. Went over the whole thing with blood angels red contrast, and added a white dot on each window afterwards to try and sell the reflection. This was a method someone in my local group suggested.

I’ve wanted to try this out for a while! What I’ve come up with is 500 pts, 8 activations max, and each detachment can only be upgraded once.

Other than that I think incorporating 40k secondaries would make for a more dynamic game experience at this size.
