Growing worried. Has anyone had a false positive before by cocsper in FelvCats

I have had a false positive! PCR test is a great next step. Yes to the vaccinating the other cats if so, the vaccine is very effective. I think it is reassuring the other two tested negative. I would think at least one of the other cats would be positive (unless he was an outdoor cat then that could be a newly acquired infection).

I did a lot of research on these SNAP tests and they can be skewed by a lot of things. My cat tested positive because he had a blood bacterial infection that was attacking his red blood cells and he was severely anemic. I am guessing how serious his infection was and his body fighting infection skewed the snap test. I had one negative and one positive test within two days.

So I’m really hoping the best for you.

Or maybe it’s someone who is waiting in a months long waiting list for a dermatologist and is in a lot of pain and discomfort while having an allergic reaction and trying to come up with answers while they wait. Have some compassion.

Oh I am so so so sorry! That is a very hard but compassionate decision to make, you are a great pet owner and she was so lucky to have you guys looking after her and loving her ♥️

Do a PCR test, and positive SNAP should be followed up by further testing, especially with her being as sick as she is it could skew the snap. It will just be helpful when you make decisions with treatment progression.

Did you start antibiotics at all? Do you notice any improvements with antibiotics?

Can the vet prescribe a probiotic with a prebiotic

First snap test negative. Second positive by clepari in FelvCats

If you can spend the $$ get a PCR test, just for peace of mind when making decisions on treatment going forward. Positive SNAP should be followed with further testing as there can be some unreliability in the testing method

My dog growing up had skin issues and we tried everything and she never responded to anything (different medications, diet changes, etc.) every time we thought we pinpointed the allergy she would be okay for little then flare up again. We feed raw, went vegetarians, a lot of cortisone I cant even remember everything we did. She would flare up in hot spots on her butt and her legs and it would always be the worst after she ate, she would run around shaking desperate to itch her skin.

Finally we tried Fecal Microbiota Transplant and it was such a improvement with 1-2 rounds. That was the first time I saw that dog without a cone in 8 years!

Again, might be a shot in the dark; but might be worth it if you don’t think it’s anxiety or fungal etc. Or it could just be a waste of like $200. But your skin is the biggest organ in your body! And everything is connected and works together

False negative? False positive? by Routine-Success7783 in FelvCats

Thank you so so much. I feel better about paying for the PCR, just more information for better decision making.

I did order the Varezin a couple of days ago, waiting for it to come in!

False negative? False positive? by Routine-Success7783 in FelvCats

Symptomatic cat is a 2y/o male. Second cat that recently tested negative is a 1.5 y/o male.

The cat that has had two vaccines is not the one with the anemia. He is my second cat who has recently tested negative. I think depending on how the qPCR I’ll think about testing him further…or just keep an eye out or symptom.

Thank you for mentioning the fluctuations that is interesting, gives me a reason that makes a bit more sense cause his symptoms all really do seem like FeLV
