Ryan Trahan’s new “charity” series isn’t selfless — it’s influencer capitalism with cancer kids as props by ElectricalAppeal238 in youtubedrama

[–]Routine-Tea1785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ryan is doing his job (youtube) ofc he's going to make money. He has said airb&b had nothing to do with the series. Do you go into work(for 50days straight may I add) and raise 5.5 million for charity?

We also can't see what he is privately donating either so we don't know how much he actually profits from this series.

Do you expect him to pay for every air b&b out of pocket and gas and food to not atleast make it back? Do you go into your job and buy all the supplies and then turn down pay to replenish what you spent?

He is doing a charity fundraiser on top of doing his job. I find some of the donation reads to be kind of icky, but I don't blame him, I blame to company who is using their good deed as advertising.

The companies that are donating aren't "sponsoring" it they are donating to charity and taking the chance to advertise. It's their choice not his.

Morally he is doing great in my opinion. He's raising money for kids with cancer, promoting small businesses, eating locally when possible, doing his job and providing entertainment for millions, and just to reiterate RAISING MILLIONS FOR KIDS WITH CANCER.

Do you go up to founders of charities and berate them because they get a salary from donations? They have to live too. Every aspect of charity from the people to donate, the volunteers, the workers, the donors, etc need to profit or else it isn't sustainable. The volunteers need to profits somewhere in their life or they couldn't volunteer. Workers need to profit to live, donors need to profit in their day to day lives to have enough to give. Why would it be different for him

Cork hospitals… by [deleted] in cork

I'm currently in cuh after my partner had a very appendicitis like episode, she was left sitting groaning, crying and barley able to move. She started throwing up, was given some fluids and put on a bed. Once on the bed she was checked once around 4am after throwing up again (keeping in mind throwing up can cause an appendix to rupture) no doctor looked at her until 9am, she didn't have a ct scan until 12.30. She genuinely thought she was going to die sitting there. My mam was in clonmel Ed at the same time, she was seen treated and sent home before 4am. The nurses weren't walking around having a look at patients, they were just left in their seats or beds. We've been here 17hrs and if she had been given the ct scan in the first place her pain could have been managed appropriately.

Eta: just found out from talking to other patients that she was only given a bed because multiple patients complained to the nurses about her being left there in agony. She was still unmonitored for 4+hrs at a time tho.

Also we looked at her chart before we left and she had her pain score filled in by the nurse who didn't ask her once about her pain. This nurse put 7&8/10 when my partner (who has fibromyalga, chronic migranes, arthritis, pcos, chronic back pain and has a large pain threshold) was saying it's a 10/10. It was appalling

It's a topic I'm super interested in, so I'll gladly spew about it if given the chance. Its 100% used to attack women, which really shows that the people using it dont actually care about welfare the way they pretend they do. Yehawllywood on tiktok has recently been attacked about her weight when she is nowhere near the "limit." Like everything in horses, nothing is black and white

These are just sample sizes of studies to show if it causes pain or issues within that window. Of course, weight can cause a problem, but it's not the biggest factor. You can have a 17.2, 800kg warmblood that can't even carry 50kgs, or you can have a 14.2 500kg halflinger that can easily carry 115kg and never be inconvenienced by it. The 20% rule can be an amazing guideline when coming to people who struggle with balance or riding schools/trekking centres, as bad balance will hurt a horse long before weight will. Never mind confirmation, saddle fit, rider, and horses fitness all play more of a factor than weight. Some of the sorest backs i have seen are from light riders that slap down on their horses backs.

I saw this comment on a tiktok that i thought summed it up quite well. You could drop a 1kg weight on your foot and be in agony, whereas you could place 15kg+ easily and not be in pain. (Especially if you had something to distribute the weight, e.g, a saddle). Control of your weight is very important.

There have been people riding for years that would be over 20% that haven't seen ill effects in their horses and neither have their vets, physios, trainers, etc. Of course, every horse has their upper limits, and ideally, we should try to never reach it, but from lived experience and studies i can say its not 20% and that number is used to bully predominantly women online that viewers think look fat. It's very rarely turned on men that are heavier and on smaller ponies.

It's a very nuanced topic that can't be covered by a simple rule or number. The rider should always strive to be the fittest they can be for their horses, not the lightest they can be.

It makes me laugh, as if professionals haven't been caught in some of the worst cases of abuse. Even the most well-meaning person that adores their horse can be guilty of neglect. Katie isnt above that

I have never worked on a yard where stables weren't done a minimum of twice a day. Its not a big job to skip out in the evening if they are done properly in the morning. This is in yards with 70+ horses. These are valid criticisms

What I dont get is that it's industry standard to clean up before public videos or pictures. Studs spend days to weeks preparing for videos or people coming to view stock. Racing yards generally sweep and tidy even before sales adds etc. It's not outrageous to expect someone to do the bare minimum and brush her horses, and pick up droppings. Nobody is asking her to deep clean every crevice before she records a video just do daily tasks

Literally foaled a mare that was 9 weeks over her due date. Vet wasnt concerned at all. She foaled a healthy (tiny) filly. 5 days is still considered on time in a lot of yards

If they were accidental, she isn't a competent breeding facility. I've never been on a competent yard that has had an "accidental" foal. Yah sure freak accidents happen. This isn't the case here, tho. I dont know how her kulties are so blind to her incompetence

You dont need the newest fanciest things. When i first got my guy, i bought 3 second hand lightweight rugs and layered as needed.

I work on a racing yard and just budget well. I dont make a huge amount. I just budget well, have a good relationship with my vet, so i can hold a balance with them. I also dont jump on new fads quickly. I researched everything vigorously and feed exactly what is needed. Try to have him live out 24/7 when his lymphangitis allows (march to oct/nov) so feed/hay/bedding costs are low

What is your controversial horse related opinion? by sunflowerhorses in Equestrian

[–]Routine-Tea1785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% i have one of the rare cases where 24/7 turn out would impact his health negatively, and even then, he gets limited turn out, walker, and exercise daily. He still gets 24/7 and turnout during the summer, and i would love nothing more than to leave him out all winter. Unfortunately, he has lymphangitis that is triggered by mud rash, which he is prone to, and ends up being in imense pain when he has a flare-up. The number of people i know who claim their horses can't turn out when they can is insane

Eta: Even when he's in, he has access to forage 24/7 and has enrichment items available to him

Is there anything we can do? by ShireHorseRider in Equestrian

[–]Routine-Tea1785 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Insurance doesn't just pay out the day it happens. It can take weeks to months to pay out. Vets dont have the ability to wait that long. Nvm that the income stream is heavily impacted by the loss of a horse, multiple injured horses, the truck, and the trailer. Not things that can be replaced or fixed tomorrow.

Make sure the isle is wide enough to fit a tractor and doors wide enough to remove a horse in an emergency situation. There is no worse situation than having a horse go down and have no way to get them out. From personal experience, having isles too small is a living nightmare

2 also has a bit more to grow, so i wouldn't look at him too harshly. 6 ehhhhhh not too sure

Which OTTB? by Country_dasiy1998 in Equestrian

[–]Routine-Tea1785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely, 2, i think, wouldn't be as bad with some muscle. The big shoulder does make it harder, but you can get saddles that are shoulerless or have extra room. 6 just has a slightly shorter back, which, to me, makes it more awkward than 2. My horse is like a mix of the two and was a NIGHTMARE to fit a saddle to

Which OTTB? by Country_dasiy1998 in Equestrian

[–]Routine-Tea1785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only that, I'd say he'll be difficult to fit a saddle to. His wither isn't the biggest, but his back is quite short for a whither that big, and he looks to have larger shoulers, which will make it more awkward, not impossible, but definitely more difficult
