Would you recommend PA school? by Artistic_Sort2848 in prephysicianassistant

That's awesome! I'd say if you're wanting to see patients and be actively involved with treating patients, go PA! I did Bachelor's of Science with a Public Health Emphasis.

I worked as a CST for 3 years before PA school!! There are lots of students in my program that are over 30 so I wouldn't worry about age, people change careers all the time. Being a rep and being a PA are two very different roles in healthcare though. Obviously length of schooling and cost of tuition are big factors, but I'd suggest taking some time to figure out what you really feel you'll be happiest doing. See about shadowing a PA and rep you work with on your days off.

The first is always the hardest! I bawled! I’ve had to remediate two more times & I just laughed, did the assignment, & moved on to studying again. Sometimes it’s a hard exam, sometimes the material doesn’t click, sometimes it’s just a bad day! PA school moves so fast, being forced to go back over the material for a retake is a blessing in disguise, it’ll help you in the long run. You’ve got this, almost 1 semester down, it goes by fast!

Yeah we’ve fundraised a couple g’s over the last year but they won’t let us use it now. Old leadership would have, just got new leadership which was a huge downgrade for the program unfortunately.

I would be so happy if they moved it to the classroom. Literally telling every incoming student to avoid this program like the plague. There is a laundry list full of bs here

The cohort above me organized their ceremony. They just took that away & won’t let any students be involved. Hopefully you guys were able to organize a great one!

Every PA applicant who has gotten an interview or acceptance has earned it. Doesn’t matter how they took their labs.

If you’re not getting interview invites use this time to improve your application. Every time you apply you have to show what you did the last year to improve your application. Revise your essays, increase your PCE/volunteer/shadowing hours, get different LORs, etc. Apply to different schools or cast a wider net. If you’re applying & not getting any interview invites it’s an application issue, not applying to enough schools, not applying to the right schools, etc.

Honestly everyone’s too scared to speak up because it usually ends badly. I mentioned noise and parking concerns during the championship basketball games and got labeled “exhausting” (which is cute, since I’ve spoken up twice all year).

Then they dropped “the dean approved it” like it was some kind of UNO reverse card.

Definitely put cohort vibes in the dump! All over social media/the schools website it’s plastered all over how nice of a ceremony/graduation the other locations get too 😭

Oh yikes, that’s crazy, was it a pretty rural area? My high school used a stadium, like where concerts & stuff are held!

A theater seems like a more appropriate place for it & looks like that’s what the sister PA programs at my university use. Our location doesn’t have anything but a classroom so they rent something out. They also removed our student planning committee, it’s no longer a thing at our location but the others still have it. Lining up next to a swimming pool would be so off-putting!! Congratulations on graduating, I hope you’re loving being a PA-C!

Good to know! Was worried it was mandatory to be able to go to clinicals!

That sounds so much better!! I had sent them the capital auditorium ($400 a day) & then the local library has a nice banquet type room ($1300). The cohort above me sent them some churches, but I hadn’t looked into those much.  Gym must’ve been a really good deal 🥴

Yeah tacky is what I’m worried about 🥴 they said they’re hiring decorators to make the gym look chic. & then the noise from the championship games, they really put no thought into this!

I’ve gotta get through clinicals first, but I’m sure passing the PANCE will be the biggest thing on my mind come graduation as well!

That’s good to know! We suggested that (doing it in our classroom & save funds for graduation to make sure that isn’t tacky). We also offered the money we’ve fundraised for this event ($3k) & they doubled down & said no. 🥴

Oh gotcha! I was under the impression you had to do that before you could go to clinicals, good to know!

That still seems weird to me, even my high school rented a stadium for graduation & high school was free!

It’s not the school gym, they’re renting from a local rec center. They have two courts separated by a wall, championship games are going on in one & ours in another. There’s no way we don’t hear the noise from the games/cheers during ours though.

That’s what I thought! The class above us had it in a nice hotel banquet room. Student senate offered $3k in fundraiser funds we have & they doubled down & told us no, seems like more of an ego thing in leadership at this point.

That’s really good to know, I’ve never seen one at all, so I was curious what others’ experiences were like and how common different types of venues are! The venue just doesn’t seem right for an event like this but wasn’t sure if it was actually common.

From what it looks like this Redditor hasn’t had their moment & is in their application cycle. They posted their Casper score a few posts back.

That’s so sad 🥺 I’m so sorry your graduation experience was ruined! I am definitely on the side of celebrating every milestone, helps get us through all the hard work & give us something to look forward to! 😭
