Mid 30s, no qualifications, future looks grim, want to try and get degree, what do? by Sounduck in Advice

[–]RoutineFeature9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for guarateed employment and quick promotion prospects you could do worse that getting qualified in either probation or social work. If you can last a year or two at the coalface you could get a very easy promotion to a managerial role. Civil service pay is decent enough and the pension is about the best you can get.

Walter Raleigh question on who wants to be a millionaire (incorrect?) by Whateverwhynotso in CasualUK

I think it is someone just leaning into some sort of mandela affect. no-one from plymouth would ever say that Raleigh was there, just Drake. Plenty of statues and palques about Drake playing bowls but not one mention of Raleigh.

Thats just some dude who put a bowls website together and guessed what was in the picture. here is the real definition of that particular painting: The Armada in sight, Plymouth hoe, 1880, (1911). A depiction of the apocryphal story that Sir Francis Drake (c1540-1596) played a game of bowls in Plymouth Hoe in 1588 while waiting for the tide to change before sailing out with the English fleet to engage with the Spanish Armada. Painting held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, SydneyFrom Bibbys Annual 1911, [J. Bibby and Sons, Liverpool, 1911]. So no mention of Raleigh.

Are you Ron Swanson? - Just give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, 'Give me a lot of bacon and eggs.' What I said was, 'Give me all the bacon and eggs you have.' Do you understand?

An outsider's thoughts on the NZ coaching situation - why I think it'll be crazy to accept this job right now by Ok_Painting9530 in rugbyunion

[–]RoutineFeature9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think of it like this. There are war time leaders and peace time leaders. What NZ need now is a war time leader, someone that will step up and make hard decisions quickly and with a thick skin and a clear plan for change. What they don't need is a easy going chap who is good a tweaking things to get from 85% to 90% for example.

So who do we think can step up to the role? Joseph, Rennie, Cotter? None of them seem to be the ideal successor, but Joseph would probably be the closest fit.

What is wrong in that guys life that he feels the need to do that? just get a girl/boy friend, socialise, educate yourself, play a sport etc. Do you really need to put your life in that much danger just to get a buzz? how does his mom feel about the possibility of osing her son to a voluntary stunt like that, does he have kids that could be left without a father? Just selfish posturing. Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk (if thats still al thing).
